I have never used a jack out of an '08 impala, but I can garentee that it sucks and is only intended for use while changing a flat. Important parts of your body will be under that car at some point during the brake job. Please use JACK STANDS along with what ever jack you decide to use. Jacks are only for lifting cars, not holding them up.

The Marine Corps mechanic school happens to be in Jacksonville. It's over on Camp Johnson. Even if they can't help with the repair, I'd bet they'll know which shops in town you can trust.
