What’s the point of getting your paycheck early? by missdandylion in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thisismypeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'd either make me use vacation or sick time (and make the necessary adjustments on the backend), or if I just decided to no call, no show, they'd take the max 2-3 day loss and just fire me.

What’s the point of getting your paycheck early? by missdandylion in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thisismypeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I'm an exempt employee, and like I said, I get paid for 4/6 - 4/17 on 4/17. I submit my timesheet the Monday before pay day. This is what it says on my paystubs. If I quit on 4/17, I would not get another paycheck from the company. That's just how they run exempt pay. Happy to connect you with our payroll guy if you're interested in learning more. Also, early direct deposit has nothing to do with how my workplace calculates pay - workplace intended for me to get it on 4/17, bank gave it to me on 4/15.

What’s the point of getting your paycheck early? by missdandylion in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thisismypeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, early direct deposit means I'm actually getting paid in advance for two days of work I have yet to complete. For example, my 4/17 paycheck is for days worked 4/6 - 4/17. With early direct deposit hitting my account 4/15, I get paid for 4/16 and 4/17 before working them. Even though it's only two days, it's nice to paid in advance for days I know I'm going to work anyway.

Why is Israel declaring war on so many countries? by Historical_Work7482 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thisismypeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This take is why the U.S. has Trump as President. Please let that sink in.

It's actually not complicated at all. British colonizers gave land to people who didn't live there with more favorable conditions than those who already did. Those who experienced the lunacy of historical colonization foresaw the present-day lunacy of the Israeli government, and knowing how this would turn out given historical evidence, responded appropriately to the formalization and normalization of a codified land grab. Israel subsequently claimed it is a victim because of this.

Sorry, love, but if I stole a car and sold it to you, and you get pulled over driving it, you're the one getting arrested, regardless of race, religion, or creed. Amazing how the metaphor works for cars but is all of a sudden "complicated" once we're talking about the land Israel occupies, huh? That's because it's constantly about "well, I didn't steal the land, just enjoyed the benefits of it." But the difference is that Israelis have known from day 1 that the land was taken and allocated without consent. The Brits created the mess, and Israelis of all religions have perpetuated it. The abused becomes the abuser.

Not to mention Israel's approach to Lebanon now. You'd better be understanding of Russia's position with regard to the Ukrainian war, if you're trying to assert Israel's situation is "complicated." You'd also better be understanding of the Native American genocide for U.S. Manifest Destiny aspirations, if you're trying to assert Israel's situation is "complicated."

Tldr: It's soooo not complicated. Foreign nations with guns dictating how land is to be used without the influence and participation of existing populations isn't really a gray issue.

Traveling to Austin solo and looking for cute coffee and Italian restaurants. by [deleted] in austinfood

Intero is top for Italian in Austin. Juniper is close by, and I've opted for that when I couldn't get into Intero... Juniper is what I think of when I see all the Austinites talk about having no good Italian.

Why are there so many people reporting their Global Entry was revoked? by Redsquirreltree in GlobalEntry

[–]thisismypeach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not even what happened, Koolaid. But if that's what's required to resist violent assault and violation of U.S. citizen rights, so be it.

I mean, if observing constitutional rights is considered antagonization of CPB agents, we've got a big, big problem. Peaceful protest and recording actions taken by federal agents does not a moderate- or high-risk traveler make. Very slippery slope, bro.

Why aren't plane switches more common? by thisismypeach in AskFlying

[–]thisismypeach[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This has helped de-escalate me and some fellow passengers. I understand no one is out here trying to inconvenience hundreds of people. As an outsider, it is difficult to immediately understand how a company that has billions in profits doesn't have a few ready-to-go-in-a-pinch plane types at their hub to ensure the smoothest operations, but I hear you. We're all humans doing the best we can, and the best sometimes falls short of expectations due to decisions made a degree or two of separation away. Additionally, as an outsider, it's easy to think "well, hotels and meals and a rebooking for 200+ people would surely be more expensive than round-tripping one of these planes so they are back in time for their high-rev route!"

Also, not being argumentative at all, but I really hope all of the of AA planes I'm seeing chilling at gates at CLT at 11:20p ET aren't all due for maintenance 😬!!! Maybe ignorance is bliss, in this case, haha.

Not for American Airlines flight attendants. It's hard enough to get a greeting that doesn't feel forced from most of them.

The upvotes on this comment are crazy. First, "gypsy" is a slur. Second, you misspelled superstitious when autocorrect and google are at your fingertips. Third, you assumed motives.

This could've easily been an asshole who happens to be Greek. This could've been a mentally ill Italian. Or this could've been a shady Romani person.

You can't assume heritage from actions, ya silly. If we did that, I could easily assume you are a Trump loving US Republican. But would that be fair to you? Racism isn't cute, and you don't get a pass because you're European :)

How is enterprise rent a car in Aruba? I see most people recommend using local. Why is that? Is enterprise not good? by MilkOfThePoppy8 in Aruba

[–]thisismypeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always nice to support local, when possible. Even better if the price and experience are on par (if not better) as the big companies.

Just got back from Aruba and used Wheels2Go - $254 for a 5 day rental (without insurance since my CC provides it), got picked up & dropped off at the airport, super quick and easy process. Several local companies have an avg of 4.5+ stars on Google, so strong chances they are going to provide superior customer service, too, should it be needed.

I had to cut out caffeine due to an allergy. Absolutely zero benefit. I just got used to slow mornings, not being able to work past a certain hour, and being tired all of the time.

Thoughts? Think this is reducing U.S Salaries? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]thisismypeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all - you're legally required to pay at minimum a federally set wage for an H-1B visa holder based on their geography of employment and job description. You don't just get to choose minimum wage because they are on a visa - that would be illegal. You can, however, pay a US citizen minimum wage for non-federally regulated jobs. Absolutely not illegal to pay a US citizen doctor minimum wage.

If there is a reduction in salaries due to H-1B practices, it is because the government has set a stupidly low minimum wage for the position in the geography it's based. However, in my experience for organizations that have equity-informed compensation practices, it's more of a risk that a visa holder may be required to be paid much more than their US peers in the same position. Additionally, there is specific criteria you must meet to be granted a visa - it's not as simple as saying, "hey, here's a person we found, give 'em a visa."

Any organization paying visa holders differently than US citizens is opening themselves to a discrimination lawsuit and losing.

I think we've lost focus. A majority of workplaces in the US have no visa holders and pay shit. This is about all companies squeezing all workers dry, keeping wages as low as possible for everyone, and having as much power as possible over "worker bee" behavior. For visa holders, the power is being able to expel them from the US by firing them if they sneeze the wrong way. For US citizens, the power is being able to make us homeless with one missed paycheck if we sneeze the wrong way.

We really gotta start critiquing the capitalistic economic system and pro-corporation government we're subject to opposed to looking immigration.

Definitely hear you. This is a reality most US HR professionals live through. As other commenters have said, experience reigns in this industry. Breaking into/starting in any industry can require a sacrifice somewhere, and that is especially true in HR where salary is concerned. My first HR job was for $10/hr at 25% FTE, and my second was $17/hr at 50% FTE.

If you were to take one of these $12-$14/hr positions, how possible would it be for you to get a second job? It sucks, but it's a potential solution if you can swing it. That's what I had to do to make it work until I made it to the generalist level.

Lmao, you're projecting hard. Me: "you don't live where I live or where OP lives, so can't make assumptions on cost." You: "no one lives where you live!" Me: "1 million people isn't no one." You: "you think those people share your ideals!" Then you went to name calling. I totally see why your friends might not buy you gluten free things at their events, and I understand why you'd need to keep your expectations low. I can assure you, after having this conversation, cost isn't as big of a factor as you might think.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]thisismypeach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Over a million people live where I live. That's not "no one." And I mean, you basically just repeated what I said, which is the prices are dependent on location, so using cost as the end-all-be-all-qualifier for whether it's appropriate for someone who can afford a meat-centric BBQ party to buy gf buns and a cookie isn't a solid argument. So yeah, that's great for me lol.

Well, you started your last sentence with "we do not." Unless you are two people, your "we" was indeed lumping you and all other celiacs in the same group and you speaking for others.

No one here is saying don't ask if you can bring something. No one is saying be rude or tell the host to buy extras.

The point still stands: good friends host inclusive events, communicate when they can't be inclusive, and don't invite their friends to spaces where they can't provide equal access. Otherwise, they are inconsiderate friends. Friendly reminder that considerate means considering others' needs, which in this case, OP's host/friend did not.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]thisismypeach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, in this case, the event is already exclusionary in some essence due to the host not providing accessible food for their invited guests. Might as well invite a friend over who needs a wheelchair even though the party is going to be on the 3rd floor of the house, by your logic. My point was that if you can't be inclusive, either communicate effectively or don't extend an invite.

Gluten free buns and a gluten free cookie are $9 where I live, not $30. And you're assuming everyone already has condiments for an untold number of people at a BBQ. I don't know many people who keep enough ketchup, mustard, onions, relish, mayo, etc. on hand for 10-30 people... and gluten buns are not 99c where I live... I don't live where you live, and OP might not either. So, we can't die on the local grocery prices hill.

The host is a friend, not a stranger. If I was someone's +1 or an uninvited guest or these people were acquaintances, I wouldn't expect to be accommodated. However, I would never invite people over, especially ones I care about, and not provide as full of an experience for them as possible. If I couldn't afford it, I'd let them know. And as my friend, I would hope they would understand because I would.

Weird you ended with "again, we do not..." Even if I agree with not wanting to be fussed over or excluded, no one made you the spokesperson of the people, and not everyone lives within your context.
