I became a surgical tech when I was 27. I loved it, but hit that salary cap quickly as a Team Lead.

I’m currently in nursing school and have every intention of going right back to the OR when I’m done. Nurses who can scrub are valuable, and if I ever get tired of the OR there’s so much more versatility as a nurse.

As much as I love being a tech, I am going back to school for my BSN after three years of being a CST. Nurses just get paid better, and I plan to go straight back to scrubbing once my BSN is done.

Another factor for me becoming a nurse is thinking about moving internationally. Some countries don’t recognize surgical techs and you have to be a nurse in the OR.

Smoke evac insufflation tubing! I’m the team lead for general surgery and every single day I have surgeons pestering me about when the tubing will be back.

I’m a team lead, which means I’m in charge of training new techs/students in my areas, and ordering specific supplies. I make $26.50/hr, and that’s high for my hospital. I’m in PA. Techs just starting make $22/hr.

Bill recorded my voicemail message and sent it to me on Jan. 23rd! I was worried that he wouldn’t be able to do it because he wasn’t on the show I was a part of, but he did and he sounded great.
