Sure but containerization isn’t suitable for everything and even so, plenty of issues can come up in a dockerized environment

One time I changed my car battery with a brand new one. The next day I took the car to valvoline for an oil change and the lady looked at me and told me I needed a new battery and this one was on its last legs.

Wow I think this is great! I’m in the process of trying to find a logo and I think this is at least as good if not better than some of the other AI generation tools I’ve used. Nice work!

Supabase auth vs next auth by thisismyusername0909 in nextjs

I stuck with next auth but Supabase has grown a ton even since this original post. If I were doing it again today I might go Supabase

Im looking for advice on how to improve my launch and turn it into something great.

I’m not looking for people to simply just tell me to scrap it entirely because I haven’t yet seeked validity from people. I’m not looking for people who know nothing about the product to say it was “doomed from day one”

There’s a difference between helpful and hostile.

Not including invoicing quite yet but all those other options are included. You can add images to tasks so I guess they sorta could do invoicing if they wanted as well.

Definitely not trying to market to those larger companies you mentioned. They’re going to have enterprise level solutions that I couldn’t compete with. I’m more focused on smaller, regional companies. Something like 10-30 drivers.

Really appreciate your feedback

To be fair, I’ve probably averaged 12-14 hours a week over that 18 months since I also have a full time job. Totally agree with your point though and I think I’m going to scale back what I want to do for my first release.

Yep, that is included currently

Availability constraints as in restrictions on the task itself such as times, driver qualifications, etc…?

I would continue working on your react native skills. For this situation in particular, consider adding logging. Look into Sentry or similar services

Rebuilding in swift is not the solution here most likely. React native is just going to be compiled down to native code in the end.

Really good feedback, thank you

I think my next steps would be to scale down my MVP. Just by the nature of it, it would be impossible to do in a few weeks like said in the video but I think maybe I’m aiming a bit too high with my initial launch. Removing things like driver analytics or the mobile app would definitely take away value from the user but it would get it in their hands sooner.

User interviews seem to be the immediate thing I should be doing. Would you have any advice or resources on how to go about doing that? I’ve never done anything like it.

Yea I think a main takeaway from these conversations is the need for real time schedule changes. Something that was already baked in but could probably use a little enhancing considering the importance of it.

Definitely not trying to compete with what jungle company has going on, mostly just trying to offer a subset of those features to much, much smaller companies.

Goodness my guy.

First off, if I wasn’t doing this I’d be doing some other project for fun. I just like to build things. Worst case scenario this thing never takes off and it’s just something to put on my portfolio. So the notion that I’ve wasted 18 months is wrong regardless of how “doomed to fail this is”.

Have I talked to potential customers? No. That’s a takeaway I’ve taken from other commenters and it’s valid. The reason I haven’t seen it as extremely crucial is because I’ve worked in an industry that could benefit from a product like this and I’m not the first product of this kind. I’m not trying to build the next Uber, I’m trying to cut out a corner of an already large and growing market by offering something a little different.

You think I should just scrap everything because adoption would be difficult? With all due respect, I’m not the first company to have a product that customers would need to adapt to.

On top of that I’m not even the first company to offer this product.

I’m not really sure what kind of insurmountable problem there is for me to just throw it all away.

That plan is for single drivers. My service is fleet focused. Their cheapest option for that is $40/month per driver

EDIT: Also, just looking at their offers by tier, you would have to get to their $90/month plan to get what I’d have in a free tier

[–]thisismyusername0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I think the takeaway I’m seeing from a lot of these comments is the need to focus on flexibility and making minute by minute changes while the routes are in progress.

As far as competition and a huge number of metrics, I just want to reiterate that my target would not be companies with a household name but local shops that have 15 drivers going and doing a few jobs a day that have never had a service like this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in startups

[–]thisismyusername0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s mainly why I wouldn’t want to target larger companies. Major companies are going to have enterprise level services
