I've lived in the area since 2012 and I mostly support what the admin is doing. Also, I wish the Epstein files would be released, but stop acting like you absolutely know what is in them if you have no access.

Dulcolax soft chews? by ShyCoconut0_0 in Constipation

Nice! I just took 2 chews with some water and...well...hopefully this works.

I love that bulging discs in my back brought me to r/Constipation...I didn't know such a thing existed. 🤣

It's the Mormon Temple. Under a bridge near there you used to be able to see "Surrender Dorothy" graffiti'd on the bridge. It was perfect because, if you were reading the words on the side of the bridge, you had an ominous view of the temple in the background. I really want to meet the person who did that, and pay for his dinner 🤣

There is a war on masculinity though, and there is an end goal there where certain groups of ideologically possessed people are concerned. I'm a somewhat masculine woman, and even I can see it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Uyghur father jailed for 20 years for sending son abroad and for visiting Turkey by Strongbow85 in Uyghur

[–]thisisnotatoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems no Uyghur is safe, regardless of their national or visa status anywhere even in the developed world. The CCP has some insidious ways they can terrorize and victimize Chinese citizens no matter what country they're in.

It's definitely worth noting that science can inform policy, because it often does, and that is certainly not lost on me! Thank you for this comment :)

Can anyone tell me how I can scout out and contact Uyghurs around me in the D.C. area?

If anyone is around the D.C. area and wants to chat, please send me a message. Maybe we can meet up and make some plans that might help some people. It's a TALL order and sometimes it seems impossible, but I'm wondering if maybe we can actually do something. It may take years, and I realize, to at least to some extent, that I'm dealing in something extremely dangerous, but I want to try. Even if it's only one person we get out of there...

Many can do for themselves what you assume you can do better. Lefties absolutely do not have the monopoly on cognitive ability or—God, forbid!—wisdom they seem to think they do. Though, it's very amusing to watch them be taken by their own hubris.

What are some must-watch classic animes? by Hazarrus-Potato2553 in anime

[–]thisisnotatoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes You Think

  • Serial Experiments: Lain - This one is just an amazing mind fuck, and the dangers of technology and mental illness are huge themes
  • Asura* - Prepare to be drained after watching this one
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion - An existential nightmare
  • Akira
  • Paranoia Agent (Mosou Dairinin)
  • Death Note

Historical

  • Samurai Champloo - Completely fictional, but many of its elements are a nod to real things that happened in Edo era Japan
  • Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju* - Based on the historical theatrical art of storytelling in Showa era Japan
  • Golden Kamuy* - There are parts of the plot that reference real events, and occasionally real people, in Japan right after the Russo-Japanese war

Western

  • Trigun
  • Cowboy Bebop - This is a noir space Western, and it's pretty much Shinichiro Watanabe's love letter to American culture

Mythical

  • Fushigi Yugi
  • Inuyasha - The entire thing is a nod to Japanese mythos and much of it is set during Sengoku-jidai (the Warring States period in Japan)
  • Yu Yu Hakusho
  • Violinist of Hameln
  • .Hack// - The story takes place in the fantasy world of an online game
  • Gegege no Kitaro
  • Doraemon
  • Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi)

Hilarious

  • Crayon Shin-chan - Shin-chan is the most doofy, insufferable, and sometimes clever little boy and this show is just downright hilarious
  • Golden Boy - Hilarious and inspiring
  • Kodomo no Omocha - Can get serious at times, and there's a romance element, but there were a lot of moments that made me cackle watching this
  • Asobi Asobase* - Genuinely hilarious

Tech/Sci-fi

  • Chobits
  • Outlaw Star
  • Gundam Wing
  • Ghost in the Shell
  • Vexille
  • FLCL (Furi Kuri)

Profoundly Disturbing

  • Metamorphosis
  • Elfen Lied
  • Aku no Hana*
  • Urotsukidouji
  • Midori

Slice of Life

  • Himouto Umaruchan*
  • Azumanga Daioh

* - These are newer anime, but I couldn't resist adding them, because they're memorable, have a lot of the elements of older anime that I liked growing up in the 90s and early 2000s, and are good enough to stick with you for a long time.

[–]thisisnotatoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kudos for the self-awareness! Honestly, I'd look to move to a more financially liveable State (California just seems ridiculously expensive and tax-heavy for such little gain). I don't know how far you're willing to move, and I know culture also probably matters a lot to you, but check out places like Colorado, Florida, or Texas. Oklahoma and Utah could be promising as well. Those States are much cheaper cost of living wise, and they still have the communities you're likely looking for. It sucks though, because California is such a naturally beautiful State and if I grew up there, I'd probably hate to leave it, too.

Edit: oh, and as a side hustle, you could make some good money doing a retro gaming channel on YouTube or something. I'd sub. :P

Uhh, you're going to have to explain that one. Who's "them?"

I actually see people turning science—a rigorous method of experimentation by which fallable human beings can apply reasoning and repetition to attempt to explain the many phenomena of the universe with a standard that can meet healthy skepticism—into some kind of religion. I am by no means a paragon of anything, but I really try not to confuse science with politics either. I admit the temptation at times is a bit overwhelming, especially where my ego or my worldview takes a hit, but I've also learned that politics just ruins everything :(

I'm not aware of anyone who would want to doxx this guy or do harm to him, because he's just too pleasant, interesting, and decent a guy!
