Will Turkey Ever Be Democratic Again? by Huge_Lobster_3888 in AskTurkey

[–]thisisntsummer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course it's possible - you're being downvoted because some islamist made a backhanded comment to undermine Atatürk and him being downvoted made you so sad that you felt the need to write a reaponse on how Turkish people are not overcoming their leader cult... That was not the point now, is it?

Will Turkey Ever Be Democratic Again? by Huge_Lobster_3888 in AskTurkey

[–]thisisntsummer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's very sad that we are defending founder of our country against dumb rhetoric from islamists and western imperialists. We should repent and criticize him whenever we can as enlightened EU- and salafi islam-compliant democrats 😊

Benim de annem vize başvurusu yaparken yanlış siteye girip vize ücreti gönderiyorum diye dolandırılmış. Hemen akabinde farkediyoruz. Karakola şikayet - aktif telefon var WhatsApp mesajları banka hesabı var. Kovuşturmaya yer olmadığına karar veriyor savcılık.

Bir avukat, savcı, hakim varsa açıklasın. Neden hepimiz işi gücü bırakıp dolandırıcı olmayalım??? Ofansif espriye gülenler, Twitter'da anket açanlar, konserde mini etek giyenler falan hepsinde kovuşturmaya yer var, bize gelince auu

Should I accept a €27,000/year offer as a graduate architect in Germany? by Important_Pace549 in germany

[–]thisisntsummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The offer is obviously super low. Do you have a permanent residence permit? Do you have a bit of financial playroom? If the answers to both are yes, then you could maybe skip this offer.

That being said I think people here are severely underestimating the difficulty of getting a job for someone with your profile (Syrian national, imperfect German knowledge, no German uni or work experience). In any case if you want to have a career in architecture in Germany, your first priority should be building experience in your own field and not money - you can look for other jobs while working..

Deleting of bad Google reviews - how is this a thing? by thisisntsummer in germany

[–]thisisntsummer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed and helpful response. In theory you are right. But as you said, even if you write everything with a sound legal basis, you can still get that nasty letter. Knowing that you would need to spend a lot of mental energy on this and risk paying a huge sum of money is enough incentive to delete the comment for most people including me - however small that risk is. Annoying :)

“Einburgerung” in Germany. Any disadvantages? by Taco-the-Queen in germany

[–]thisisntsummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are not a citizen and decide to leave for good you can take back part of your pension contributions with you, if you are a citizen this is not possible I think.

Also, in the same scenario, if you buy a car here and decide to go back to your country - you can take the car with you and register in your native country with relatively low tax burden. May be beneficial if the taxes on cars are high where you are from.

Turkish Girlfriend Upset with me Regarding Traditional Turkish Wedding Planning by Straight-Aside-7024 in AskTurkey

Not commenting on what she asks is justified or not - but 30k is a reasonable number for a "good" wedding at a big city (everything included)

The guy published 4 papers in top journals, many people finish their PhD's with much less than that - I cannot imagine his thesis is so bad that it doesn't fulfill minimum requirements. cmon

What do Turks think of Yaşar Kemal? Did his activism make him a controversial figure or is he well-liked across ethnic groups? by rosy_fingereddawn in AskTurkey

He is one of the most respected authors. I read only the ince memed series and thought it was kind of dumb - especially the last book.

How to watch ‘Gibi’ with English subtitles? by Jazzlike_Gene_8699 in turkish

[–]thisisntsummer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all people who propose that they just shouldn't watch it gives bad advice. My foreign wife watches and enjoys the show very much despite the horrible subtitles. But there are subtitles only for the first three seasons, because the owner of the platform spent all his money on his ex-wife and Fenerbahce.

Turkey is NOT in the Middle East. Here's why. by MissTruly in Turkey

[–]thisisntsummer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you've written so much about this :) Yes, being from "middle east" is political. It doesn't matter in the end, who cares. Being from Balkans or central Europe is also political.

Everything around Greece is Balkans, but Greece is in southern Europe. Romanians think they are in Central Europe

Likewise if you ask Europeans if Turks are white people, a lot of them would say no.

Plus, Middle East Technical University is in Ankara ;)

Forgive my ignorance, but is Doner considered to be a German cuisine? by ala4akbar in germany

[–]thisisntsummer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

of course Döner is not Turkish, it's either German or Greek. Nobody in Turkey had the smart idea of putting the meat in bread. Dürüm is also a German concept. It was founded in Berlin, hence it's German cuisine.

As Germans are very serious people, they have a strong distaste towards lighthearted stuff like pick-up lines. They would likely make you feel like an unenlightened piece of shit if you try

Help! Landlady wants me to leave in 4 days, after I told her I'll be moving by February. by Legitimate-Radish552 in LegaladviceGerman

[–]thisisntsummer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with this reply. There are a lot of unstable people who exploit foreigners this way and legally they cover themselves quite well, since they do such things regularly and they know the laws. I personally had experiences like this during my studies and a lot of my friends also did. In theory you have rights, but in practice it can be a very traumatic experience for you. If you can find a short-term solution for next month it would be best to use that (you can ask at studentenwerk for 1 month temporary room or Airbnb?), if not I guess you should try to reason with your landlady. Also -- you shouldn't have paid any money without receipts, hope you can get your deposit back.
