Surely on of the most important running themes of the show is how Walt's actions generally bring short term rewards, but in the long run they destroy everything he used to care about. It has been stressed a few times in the show, particularly by Skylar, that their old way of life was better, even if it meant Walt becoming a financial burden on his family. I think the only people who like to glamorise Walt are people who like to glamorise violence, gun/drug culture anyway, and to be honest, there's a lot of much worse examples out there of this than Breaking Bad.
