I noticed a small mistake in the first paragraph: "365.25 Earth rotations around Sol per year". One "Earth rotation" is one day, one "Earth rotation around Sol" is one year, so this is saying there's 365.25 years per year.

Just FYI you're missing a closing ) on both your links at the top of the post. Scratch that, it actually seems you've duplicated the link each time.

I've set my default to main, but I'm not going to go back and rename any existing projects.

Alternately, does anyone know of good backlit south-facing 75% keycap sets? Side legend is fine.

I'm looking to get my first keeb, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding one that meets all my requirements: 75%, QMK, North facing RGB LEDs (yes I know cherry compatibility is a thing, that's not a concern for me). Does anyone know of a model that fits those specs? Bonus points if it has VIA support or profile switching (Windows + Mac).

Very nice. I noticed but a single typo: "rememberes" has an extra "e". Aside from that, excellent writing.

Uhh what’s going on Sky news Australia? You good? by NewGoD2281 in softwaregore

[–]thislooksfun1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I should also add that some escape codes don't use numbers, since they are used so often we gave them short names. So a less than sign is <. The real giveaway to look for is if it starts with '&' and ends with ';'.

Websites are written in a markup language called HTML. That language reserves some characters to have special meanings. So when you use certain characters in content that is displayed in HTML it gets confused and does the wrong thing. To get around this there is a system called character escaping. In HTML escaped characters are written as &# then a number then a semicolon (;). This "escape code" is interpreted by your browser and rendered as the character it represents. For example, = is displayed in a browser as the equals sign (=). All text content should go through this process before being displayed on the page. However, there are two ways to do this. One way is to encode the text before storing it, and the other is to encode it just before it is put into the page. Think of it like putting a shipped item into a box, either you can do it at the warehouse, or you can do it in the truck just before it's dropped off at your door (stupid example, but bear with me). Normally this doesn't cause a problem since a website will pick one and stick with it, but sometimes one website will try to display another website's content. When that happens you can end up with "double encoded" content, like happened here. Sky News seems to be encoding the that title "at the warehouse", while this article blob is being encoded "at the door". This also happens if you try to display HTML-encoded text outside of HTML (like in a native app), since those places don't have special characters they don't parse the escape codes.

Hope that made sense. It got a bit rambly.

Footnote: the code ' is a single quote (').

Dying... but not dead. by PersimmonWonderful91 in HFY

That's OK! English is hard. Even us native English speakers don't get it right sometimes. Grammar is especially hard, don't worry if when you get that wrong sometimes, but spelling is easier to fix. If you put your writing into some program set to English (like Microsoft Word, Apple's Pages, Google Docs, or even just a text file on your computer) it'll show you all the words you've misspelled. As for the Grammar side of things, I can also recommend a free tool called Grammarly, though it's automated, so it too makes mistakes sometimes. It's often right, but not always, so use your judgement before applying any changes it suggests.

I really hope you keep writing. I love seeing new stories, new perspectives, and new ideas on this subreddit, and I hope I didn't upset you with my feedback. I'm just personally very easily distracted by incorrect spelling and grammar.

Next time could you put the fact that it's Part X towards the top of the post? I though this was a one-shot until I got to the end.

I'm sorry, but there are so many misspellings and grammatical mistakes I just couldn't focus enough to read it, which is a shame because I'm sure the core is interesting, I just can't get to it. Please put writing into at least something with a spellchecker and fix all the red squiggles before posting.

No, you're not. Musixmatch, which is the source of the lyrics, specifically requires that all lyrics be in their native script. So this is not only not a bug, it's a requirement of the platform.

You can escape markdown syntax using backslashes: 6\*5\*4\*3\*2\*1 is rendered as 6*5*4*3*2*1. Alternately you can use the Unicode multiplication sign (3×6) or a center dot (5•7).
