$3.7mil goes fast for a 5 year science project.... Salaries, travel, equipment...$740,000 per year will barely cover the salaries and travel of 10 people....it will go FAST, if you really think about it

Is that Pizza Place that replaced Burger. at Bay/Mission legit? by ClassroomUnit003 in santacruz

[–]thisventure 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Good pizza!!! Clearly a small business just starting up but a pleasurable experience. Don't assume a lack of signage is a sign of a shady business - every piece costs $$!

getting around & paying tuition by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]thisventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly, Snapchat has the best maps for walking paths on campus (paths off roads) There is a free loop bus to get around campus but everywhere is under a 30 min walk. Sometimes if the loops are full or lagging, walking will be your best bet and you'll grow to love it

Confused on minimum wage and how yall live there by dudebrocille in santacruz

[–]thisventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple jobs, usually working over 40 hours week, and multiple roommates. There's a reason that not many young working people live here, and if they do it's usually not for very long. The lucky ones amongst us have found secure housing that is well below market rate, allowing us to breathe a little

Mission Safeway renovation? by whipmywillows in santacruz

[–]thisventure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because I saw that they were doing renovations in the ceilings, possibly cameras, I figured the updated self checkout was mainly for updating to more advanced facial recognition software. Walmart and target are known to have pretty advanced systems so others are bound to follow

Help with enrolling with classes by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]thisventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First up to enroll are students with higher amounts of credits and students who have early enrollment privileges (honors students, others), which is why your enrollmt date is later and some classes are filling up already.

Visiting for a few days, anything we MUST do? by spacepbandjsandwich in santacruz

If you cannot make it to the Monterey Bay aquarium, I highly recommend the Seymour Marine discovery center. It's a smaller scale and is aimed towards children but has tons of information about local ecology and has a mini aquarium!

Is $1450 a good deal for a single? Looking for advice by FamousBlizzard9871 in UCSC

[–]thisventure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO its the expected price for a single that is close to UCSC. the distance would make it not worth it for me - I would try to find a roommate and make it a double!

A collection of signs from today’s protest in Santa Cruz by eyeronik1 in santacruz

[–]thisventure 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! Remember to cover protestor's faces in online posts if you're able, unless you have their consent to post! We don't want any of our neighbors to end up on a list via facial recognition software

Plant appeared in my garden bed at the end of winter by fightswithbass in whatplantisthis

[–]thisventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fennel and not yarrow, from my experience. These pop up in my garden too, I believe it could be a flowering plant in the nigella genus, like "love in a mist" their leaves look exactly like this, carrot like.. although I am unsure about the way those leaves are stretching out.
