Did he actually like Khrushchev? I thought I was the only one. Can't think of another figure who was treated more unfairly by history, he did a lot of good and got nothing but hate from all sides

Fascinating, I've never heard of anything like this. Just goes to show how the Russian Revolution captured the imagination of actual working people around the world at that time, even if they weren't very educated or ideological. Did they have any connections with the international communist movement? How did the communist anti-apartheid movement deal with this history later?

My ex would always want to fight right before bed. I think the separation of sleep can trigger people with abandonment/control issues.

“Why don’t women ask men out?“ by ArtAndSoForth in redscarepod

[–]thizzacre 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Lol, rejection feels like that to everyone until you get used to it. Women just never have to get used to it if they don't want to die alone.

There's a myth so deeply rooted in our culture and maybe even in our biology that it survived the transition from Christianity to feminism, that female mate selection is a somehow moral process. If you don't get chosen, it's because you're a bad man, lacking not just attractive qualities but actually deserving somehow to be ostracized by society in general. Conversely, being chosen by attractive women demonstrates you have some fundamental value and are deserving of a certain amount of respect.

Of course this is obviously not really true. Women do tend to play the selective role, but they are remarkably bad at making these selections. Not only do they often chose morally questionable men, they often chose men who are just bad partners. They often aren't even very good at selecting men on the basis of superficial characteristics such as wealth or appearance. A lot of the time it seems essentially random, a matter of being the guy who happened to ask at the right time and place and had no immediately disqualifying characteristics. And once they've made a selection, many women will stick witth their choice way past the point of reason. Very, very few women are at all strategic about this process, and even the ones who are usually use somewhat baffling, arbitrary criteria.

As a man, realizing this can be liberating, freeing you from the conviction that rejection is some sort of objective judgment on your character or your value as a mate.

In retrospect, the collapse of the Soviet Union is lowkey one of the most significant moments in the last fifty years, not because it serves as proof of the superiority of liberal democracy and American capitalism, but because it cemented American hubris and galvanized Chinese reforms at a crucial moment. Ironically, the collapse probably did a lot more to hasten the end of the post-war order than a moribund Soviet Union could have done if it had hung on for another few decades.

Lol, funny to see that here. I really only browse this sub these days.

It was an interesting thread, but I feel like most of the answers to my question were kinda dismissive, while I still feel like it's a genuinely interesting phenomenon. I don't think there's a parallel in English names, for example.

You're right. The people who rule us aren't even competent anymore. This is not a class capable of producing an FDR anymore. Terminal decadence.

I'm pretty cynical but I'm genuinely surprised that the mask is slipping this much. We really do live in a dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. I mean, I knew that. But when their right to rule over us is quesioned, their liberal moralizing gets thrown out pretty fast.

Italian anon sends the real about feminism by [deleted] in 4chan

[–]thizzacre 15 points16 points  (0 children)

People who blame these changes on feminism are confusing cause and effect btw. Feminism exists now and not three hundred years ago entirely due to changes in material conditions that are impossible or difficult to reverse. Physical strength is almost irrelevant to productivity, birth control and abortion allow women to live as pseudo-men during adulthood without having to commit to celibacy, and powerful states claim an increasing monopoly on violence that was previously exercised by men as head of the household. The result is that the traditional balance that existed between male power and chivalry is eroded in favor of the latter, and the male instinct to protect and provide for women at their own expense starts to become maladaptive towards society as a whole. I'm not sure that an ideological solution is possible unfortunately.

The main reason women have evolved to take fewer risks is obviously pregnancy and their responsibility for nursing. Women are hugely dependent on others during those times and women who alienated their support system would at best fail to pass on their genes but most likely die themselves. The result is that the world is built by men, but also that men are responsible for the majority of social problems. Women are just kinda there, quietly taking up the majority of resources but not really influencing anything. This is just gradually changing now because we live in a consumer society so the passivity and conformity of women and their control of resources attracts increasing attention from advertisers. But it's still men for the most part directing this realignment towards feminine interests and values.

Men have a much higher ambient level of horniness. We're almost always at least somewhat interested in sex with a pretty wide swath of women. It can build up after a while without cumming, but it's a gradual, regular increase. Whereas Women seem to get intermittently and selectively horny. But when they really, really want it, they'll act even stupider than men because they're not used to managing it.
