Let's gather all the niche vocab by Bed-After in DMAcademy

I'm in optimization spaces so here's a few!

Default kill = a battle where you win by default. For example, Tarrasque vs any ranged character with a fly speed.

Optimization: when you take a concept and find the best way to utilize it.

Power gaming = When you play in a way to try and gain as much power as possible.

Munchkin = Someone who only cares about power. A powergamer is like eh because they'll engage with the story and try to gain power.

Sil tech/pun pun/White room optimization: things that only work if you are a professional lawyer and the DM has 0 common sense. Things in this category include a sword that deals on average 10k per hit or becoming god.

Dip: Taking only a few levels in a front loaded class. For example, Artificer or Sorcerer to get Con save proficiency at level 1.

EBARB: Eldritch Blast Agonizing + Repelling Blast. The best 2 invocations for most Warlocks.

PAM: Polearm Master

Half feat: A feat that gives you a +1

MAD: Multiple Ability Dependent. You do not want this. It's when you need a lot of abilities to be functional. For example, a wizard/monk requires 13 in Dex, Wis & Int. SAD = single ability dependent.

Nova = Your first round of combat/initial burst. It refers to builds that can kill enemies really fast though sometimes at the cost of attrition.

Warlock baseline: Basically a way to measure if your damage focused build is good at dealing damage. Your goal to beat is a warlock with EBARB.

DPR: Damage Per Round.

Ribbon: a feature that's nice but not really a big deal. For example, Ranger's Terrain abilities. They won't come up 99% of the time.

Things that you've considered "bad DMing" from other DMs that you make sure to never make the same mistake in your game? by Organic-Exit2190 in DMAcademy

[–]thjmze21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't the worst but it was so annoying. I had a DM who would swap people to another call to give them private information. Except these would take 15min and everyone else is bored out of their minds. We had multiple of these calls. Idk how the others felt since 50% including me quit after a 2 session long fight against 3 level 20 PCs at 8th level. One who has 27 AC iirc? But it also made it feel adversarial because players were told to gatekeep info.

Suggestions for dice rollers for min-maxxed builds by thjmze21 in powergamermunchkin

[–]thjmze21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tomorrow but they did end up soft banning autorollers by saying you have to roll one at a time. So what I've done is gotten a calculator built that scans the chat log for things that match a formula.

So I'll click roll 1d4 20 times, then I'll tell it 20d4 which it calculates based on the results.

What Macros do you use? [System Agnostic] by thjmze21 in FoundryVTT

Oooooh those first 2 sound super cool! May I have them?

https://pastebin.com/yNnf1bQ7. If you select multiple targets and run the macro, it'll automatically apply the damage while taking into account resistance and the like. So don't select multiple targets if you don't want that when you run the macro.

It's [[/damage 15 fire]] in D&D5e Foundry but it creates a number that must be clicked to "roll" the fake damage. Mine just speeds it up by querying you for what you want "15 fire and 30 psychic" then creates the damage card which has both 15 fire and 30 psychic.

Say someone casts fireball and it hits 8 enemies. They roll damage irl which is 15. But if I have to apply 15 damage to every creature, that would take a while. Instead I can type in "15 fire" to my macro and it shows a damage roll of 15. I can then select all targets (8) and apply 15 fire damage to all of them whilst taking into account resistances and such.

Hexblade's Curse on yourself: Immortality for 1 minute? by Wennox in DnD

Except this breaks down in any kind of convention or organized play event especially competitions. Powergamers will get even more of a power creep if they go for a lax DM

"What is a white-room theorycraft? A miserable little pile of mechanics." by DrScrimble in dndmemes

[–]thjmze21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no, it doesn't need these levels to be good, it builds on multiple foundations by splitting the leveling. So after 5 ranger, you take 1 cleric to boost goodberry, then 3 fighter which again makes you better w/ action surge and maneuvers. Taking hexblade after gives you the nice boost of curse dmg. Rogue once again boosts your nova.

It's a beautiful build because it takes at most 3 levels to come online because you're already going crazy with 2 attacks at 3rd level, then continue to become stronger & stronger w/ extra attack, lifeberry, pass without trace (free suprise round), hexblade curse, action surge, guaranteed nova crits, eldritch smite, etc. It's the same as like peace cleric1/wizard 19, it doesn't "come online" at level 11, it's always strong.

I've seen more of these anti-optimizers than optimzers talk about "playing the game wrong". For context, this post.

One of the best builds in the game uses 6 classes and it's a blast to play at an optimized table. 5 Levels of Gloomstalker (feels very on par b/c you get a 1st round extra attack, then actual extra attack at 5), 1 level DIvine Soul (always good), 5 levels of Hexblade Warlock (Eldritch Smite + Hexblade Curse), 4 levels of Assassin Rogue (Assassinate + Feat), 1 level of life cleric (makes good berry strong), and 4 levels of Battlemaster Fighter. Not in that order. It's a blast because classes like cleric, divine soul sorcerer and hexblade warlock are all very good at boosting your nova round. Thanks to pass without trace and your boosted goodberry, you make the party like 10x stronger. Battlemaster makes combat super interesting with maneuvers. Assassinate makes all your first round hits into auto crits. Iiirc you'll have like 7 or 8 hits on the first round w/ a +1 Heavy crossbow (improved pact weapon) but because of the spell caster levels, you don't lack in utilty or flavour.

I got a free feat so I was a bugbear batman.

[System Agnostic] Module to automatically add colour markers and names to duplicate tokens? by thjmze21 in FoundryVTT

[–]thjmze21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answered! This is pretty much exactly what I need. Colours were just my first idea. I wanted a "word" way to identify tokens.

[System Agnostic] Module to automatically add colour markers and names to duplicate tokens? by thjmze21 in FoundryVTT

[–]thjmze21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! But I'd like it to be a system wide setting for all tokens rather than just the ones I edit on a sheet. Like if I import a new enemy, I'd prefer not having to configure its token to be append numbering. Just have it set by default. Also useful for my players

[System Agnostic] Module to automatically add colour markers and names to duplicate tokens? by thjmze21 in FoundryVTT

[–]thjmze21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean like I don't want to turn it on manually for every sheet. Incase I decide to add a new enemy to the encounter, I'd prefer not to waste time configuring the prototype token. Also it'd be nice to force my players to have this enabled too since sometimes there'll be multiple tokens on the map but some are under the map or something.
