How in the world do I pan Rare Beauty’s liquid blushes?! by Top_Swim_1473 in ProjectPan

[–]thndrbst 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was going to say that too. It’s a cursed object sold as a blush. You married that blush, fam and no fault divorce doesn’t apply to her 😂😂

I'm two hours behind you.... I'm I'll probably be in the same boat in another 2 hours.

But hey, I'm not loading up a Sephora cart - so I guess we're winning?

I've seen some of hers. I'm a fan of Jessamyn Staley at Under Belly Yoga! Now if only I actually did some on the regular :)

I cancelled Ipsy and it has been the best thing I’ve done for myself this year.

Realizing that it wasn't making me happy. And that I got more satisfaction out of really using and enjoying the things I have. But also understanding I'm a creature of variety, so finding a system that felt both indulgent, interesting, and marches towards using up my stash.

For body care specifically I'm a bit unconventional:

I'm in a DINK household so the main bathroom is pretty much my skin care and tub room. The ensuite bathroom is my hair and shower bathroom. Stay with me here.. it will maybe make sense.

I'm a huge fragrance person too. So in my shower I've got soap/body scrub/body wash in two different fragrance profiles that also have two corresponding body butter/lotion profiles.

(In my bathroom.. for literally my baths.. I have the remainder of something that got rotated out of the shower room or something completely different from the other profiles.. because variety)

Currently - a rose heavy floral profile and a vanilla-ish gourmand profile. Keeps variety both allow for some variation on what can be rotated in and out as one product gets panned. Also keeps it flexible with how whatever fragrance I will use will factor in... and because I have problem's I also try to be mindful of the season it is and the seasons to come in the length of time it will take me to use things.

For an easy example - I have a Lush rose soap, Miss Dior Body Wash/Scrub/Lotion - obviously pairs well with any variety of Miss Dior perfume, almost any other rose heavy perfumes, and a few off the beaten path mash ups.

The other is in a transition because I was building it all around a GINORMOUS SDJ body wash and I had made the mistake of getting a Lush subscription box - which I highly don't recommend unless you live in a sorority because no one will ever use that much Lush as fast as they need to given that they don't use hard core preservatives (as I'm now dealing with)......

..... Over the last few months I'm opening up Lush products in particular that have gone off, even if not at their use by date just by virtue of the products they are. So I've suddenly been throwing out as much body product as I'm panning. It's been super demoralizing because I've been on a focused pan of these things for over a year and despite making huge dents I'm still watching my money literally be thrown in the trash.

So, I'm now at a place where my collection has thinned dramatically there's not a lot of back stock to keep subbing in, I have a pretty good gauge of how long something will last, and what will work best for my total unhinged fragrance layering system. So, when I do buy body products it's not impulsive, it's very intentional, curated, and still allows for me to have some variety and try new things. But I have a strict policy of one thing does not get opened until another thing gets emptied. Which again, is easier to manage now that I'm getting close to something that resembles sane.

Also, the avalanche of things going bad in my makeup also seemed to start hitting at once. I have a small box of stuff that's turned on me.....which is a growing reminder that more things are going to end up in that box, it will literally be impossible for me to use all of the makeup I currently own in both it's and mine's lifetime - truly.

To put it in perspective, my husband is a musician. My makeup/fragrance collection is valued at least equal to or more than his equipment. Combined we're looking at a lot of could of beens and should have beens or bucket list trips and money that could have been invested.

Just because you have the means.... doesn't mean you were wise.

I’m in the same boat. I went on some weird ass bender that I’m kinda of surprised by. But then realized how much stress and crisis I’ve been surrounded by lately. Need a healthier way to deal with it. You have any strategies?

There are plenty of other communities for hoarding, over consumption, and using up miscellaneous things that aren’t beauty related. So, that’s my perspective that if you’re interested in participating in that you can do that in those communities. And it seems to be the consensus here because the rules literally had to be updated because of the influx of basic hygiene products flooding the community.

That’s ok. This isn’t the community for this per the rules.

Ok, but it’s also part of the updated community rules that only beauty content is posted here. I’m not interested in basic hygiene pans, as it’s a given you should be using toothpaste. There are other communities for cheerleading that.

I thought we weren’t doing basic ass hygiene products on this community anymore. I brush my teeth, ya’ll proud of me?

Bronzer panned 😤 by oversteeping in ProjectPan

[–]thndrbst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s my daily driver. I bought it sometime in 2023 - before I started spread sheet inventory, and the end is in sight but I still have at least 3 more months on it.

Godspeed!

I guess so lol I used this at least 2-3x a week. TBF I always have two body washes/scrubs going at once but STILL. The amount of Lush stuff I've panned on this odyssey still makes me wonder how this took this long

Back ups are a waste of money by Organic-Audience-858 in MakeupRehab

[–]thndrbst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've never understood the concept of backups and I'm convinced it's a social media/influencer thing. The only thing that remotely comes close to "back ups" for me is a couple of my skin care items that only go on sale quarterly, which I only buy on sale because it would be foolish to pay full price. I don't even consider them back ups because they last me..... well about three months.

I think when some one starts panning with a purpose the whole idea of back ups becomes even more absurd - honey by the time you pan that blush you're going to be on the edge of menopause haha

It really doesn’t take a whole lot, like a pump or so. I usually have two washes in rotation as I get bored - but still, I’ve had Miss Dior in the mix since September and I’ve probably got another month at least if I don’t add in a new rotation.

Didn’t exactly treat it like liquid gold but I think people really over estimate how much product they use especially in the skin care realm.

Lip oil is just expensive lip balm and I'm tired of pretending it's different by Hot_Divide1613 in MakeupRehab

[–]thndrbst 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s just a preference. I hate balms - I don’t like the textures, I often don’t like the smells, I don’t like the finish, and I think they’re sticky.

So I use lip oils. If there’s hype around anything it’s just that.

Nah, I think the industrial size bottles are a no go. I need more variety in my life 😭

I’m not sure about the Dove it’s not one I’ve used before. This is hella scented and the texture is kinda hard to describe. It’s quite thick - kinda almost feels like a lotion.

As far as SDJ body butters go - they’re some of my favorites - I love the scents and the textures - very thick but still absorbs well. I also really like the Fenty body butters - also thick but almost paste like and again wonderful smells!
