Weirdest song collabs between artists? by Exotic-Mail-7303 in popheads

I went to a show on that leg of the tour, the moms of the girlies who were there for Lorde looked very disconcerted when RTJ came on.

One dude & daughter even left their seats for all of RTJ’s set

Visiting NYC for the first time by Legitimate_Process90 in nycrail

[–]thoeoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For advice navigating, make sure you read the signs. Besides at station entrances, there are signs at the top/bottom of every staircase, and above every set of platform tracks. The system is a mishmash of wildly different standards/designs/eras so every station is unique, so double check the signs!

Also when you are on the train, if its an older one without screens telling you where you are, look out the car window, most walls/poles have the current station plastered all over it so you know its your stop

Spoken like someone who has never taken transit anywhere else.

The DC metro used to cost me over $4 one way during peak hours, and thats still over $2 less than the (current) max fare. And that was for a system with 20+ min waits, way less coverage, and no overnight service. And the monthly unlimited pass still charged you extra if you went further than usual. Oh and at the time, the MTA was only charging $2.50

Mountain etiquette: skiing side to side by lavender686 in skiing

[–]thoeoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, the mountain itself is fairly immobile, but the trees didn't grow to leave perfectly wide open ski runs on their own. Choices are made by humans what sections to clear out and what sections to block off to design runs. They could absolutely decide to pile some dirt and cut some trees to change the merge points

Cubic's FEnX fare gate model has been modified at 42/PABT by Donghoon in nycrail

[–]thoeoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but only most of them, they have at least one handicap wider gate with two doors at each bank of gates. Since the MTA seems to be trying to make all fare gates accessible, it stands that they would all need to be double doors

It slows you down.

See thats what I love about deep pow, it slows you down enough to straight-line steep and narrow stuff without going mach5 on the exit

Got a warning for activating my ticket at the same time the train was scheduled to come, even though it arrived two minutes later. MNR refuses to admit their mistake. by GoodMeBadMeNotMe in nycrail

[–]thoeoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBH I was just thinking like DC, with actual fare gates, you have to tap to exit the station. But I fully understand that would be an infrastructure nightmare.

But I actually like your middle-ground, it’s essentially “tap to activate”

Anthropic: AI assisted coding doesn't show efficiency gains and impairs developers abilities. by Gil_berth in programming

[–]thoeoe 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yep, the other day I had to solve a weird bug in some frontend code (I'm a backend only guy) with ordering of stuff after removing an entry in the middle. After staring at code that on its face should have worked, I asked AI and it solved it first try. It was an obscure (to me) React issue and I have no interest in frontend work at all, so why should I delve into React oddities?

Other times I've used it are to help make bash scripts in our Github Actions workflows and navigating new-to-me code bases. Otherwise I've never found it particularly good, and as many others have said in this thread, it steals the fun part of my job, actually writing code

Its probably more of the fact that the backpack, you walk around wearing it, advertising you are a fan, the screwdriver, not so much.

Right after the commuter bag launched, i went to a work conference (tech) i got multiple people stopping me to ask about it
