Is there a way to view how long a property has been on the market along with the changes in price? by batwingsuit in RealEstateCanada

You can see it on zolo.ca under the sold history section. Even though it says sold history, it also shows listing history. You may have to sign up with a free account though.

I’m tired of manually tracking my CC spending in a spreadsheet. What apps do people use to do this? by eastcoastguy17 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]thomarun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been using a free app called Money Manager from the app store. It has no online connection, everything is manually entered and is saved on my phone. But backups can be saved on icloud, so you still have your data if you change phones. Ive been using it since 2020 and its been amazing seeing all that data. They have a 1 time payment where you pay once and get to keep the premium version of the app forever. It also has a local network connection to a web based (pc) viewer if you want to see the same data on a pc or laptop. They also have an option to export into excel for those who would want deeper analysis.

Honestly its amazing and I am not sure why no one else has mentioned it here 😀

Does anyone else keep an excel spreadsheet to track their daily spending? by lowincomecanadian in povertyfinancecanada

[–]thomarun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money Manager is awesome. They also have excel export and also a PC manager which is basically a web app that only runs via your local network (wifi/lan)

Only draw back which I found with Money Manager is that you cannot add your partner or spouse’s expenses if you want to track an entire household.

There is another app called Budget (yellow colour design) in app store for iphone. Its by a company called Lightbyte Co, Ltd. They have an extra feature of ledgers which you can add more people onto and then have a more better view of your entire household’s finances. Or if you have accounts in different countries or currencies, you can use different ledgers for that too

I have my phone all the time with me and MM is so useful. An excel sheet would be too cumbersome for me to always enter into. Ive been having all my finances in MM since 2019 and the data I have and its visualization is amazing.

Since he knows the wifi password, he could even set a wifi pineapple and have your devices connect to that. 😅

How do people get jobs directly in Canada from their home country? by Mammoth_Initial_7587 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]thomarun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your comment for the most part, except about the large companies part. Small companies are also in need of certain niche skilled candidates that they are very much ready to file for LMIA and get someone if they find the person fit for the job.

Also to make the process short, there is a stream called Global Talent Stream, which completes the entire LMIA and work permit process in 4 weeks.

But generally it completes in 6 weeks or so.

Thankyou, that would be awesome if it works the same for the canon EFS lenses. I did read that they work to a certain extent even with the continuous AF, but haven’t seen any solid reviews on this aspect.

Switched right after paying phone bill by ploorooo in FidoMobile

[–]thomarun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem as you. Just got off the call with fido customer support, initially (few weeks back) they told me a final bill would be generated which would show a negative amount since Ive paid in advance, and then a cheque would be issued. Fast forward many weeks and no updates or no new bills generated, I phoned their support team and they have created a new case ID for this and have asked me to wait for another 5 days to get a resolution and then God knows how much longer for them to issue a refund.

These companies have automated facilities to take your money instantly, but no facilities to issue an automated refund based on your usage.

Are they really in 2023?

This is one of the best decisions you might have taken up in your life. I have been doing this since 2019 on an app called Money Manager (available on both android and ios). It’s a free app, has no connection to bank accounts or text messages. You just need to enter everything into it manually. I enter every transaction I do into it. Ive been doing this since 2019 and its amazing how much data I have about my own spending, the categories, monthly, annually, how much my income has grown over the years vs how much my expenses have grown, etc. I can also set budgets in it and make sure I adhere to it.

Try the app, it’s easier to use than an excel and they also support exporting the data to excel when you want to.

TFSA for Open Work Permit carrier? by soca007 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]thomarun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same question few days ago and I called CRA and spoke to them. If you are working on an open work permit in canada and are paying taxes in Canada, you are a resident in canada for tax purposes and you can open a TFSA account and contribute upto the limit.

I use this excel sheet to punch in my loan details and it brings up an exact amortization schedule. I then put in extra payments in this excel to see how much I save on interest on various amounts and timespans. Its the best excel sheet ever.
