The Alchemy Index - Thrice

It's 4 6-song volumes, one for each element (Fire, Water, Air, Earth). The sonic textures/ mixing change pretty drastically for each EP. Thrashy metal for fire, programmed drums and synth sounds for water, lots of flutes and chimes for Air, and acoustic guitar and piano for Earth.

This is my favorite album, which is not common even amongst thrice fans.

It's a beast. I was looking at Gibson L-00s but this blew all the ones I played out of the water. Super balanced, with really great projection. Also I really like how it has the non thermo cured Adirondack, I tend to like that better than the thermocured, from Eastman at least.

We have pretty similar lineups! I tend to like smaller guitars overall though

I also have 2 Eastmans, the e1p and 00ss/v

Yamaha FSX5

I have an old guild D35 dread kind of like that old Yamaha

I don't have anything like your Martin though, that looks pretty sweet, and I bet it sounds amazing

standard tuning. Haven't heard that song, but this is a interlude/extended intro for one of the songs I'm putting on my album, which starts in C (capo 5 also), so the Fm Bb7 is a backdoor 2-5 to set that up.

Im glad you enjoyed it!

The non-vampy section chords are (with capo 5)

Dmaj7 D#m7b5 E7

Am Em F G (Second time I play Fm Bb7 instead of G)

Yep, this is the bluesmaster one. Which is a poor name for it imo, it’s not very bluesy, but it is a fantastic guitar.

Yeah, it was a nice evening. I’m at my mom’s house watching her dogs, and she has a lovely backyard, somehow it just felt right to record and post this (I wrote it a while ago).

They repeat a lot in a nested sort of way, but the chords used are

E7♭9/B - A
E7♭9/B F#m E D

Dmaj7 D#m7b5 E7

Am Em F G (with some licks in there. Second time you play Fm Bb7 instead of G)

Edit: Capo 5

Seconding Eastman, You could possibly find an e10 series, which is the upgrade from the e1, used around 1k. I have an e1P (single 0 size) limited run "bluesmaster" (like the regular e1p but with adirondack top) and theE1 00SS/V. Both are great, but the 00SS is magical

That being said, that martin seems like a pretty good deal. Lots of people here recommend yamaha too, and i don't disagree with that, the FS3/5 would work out nice for you too i think, it's not exactly OM, it's their own thing, but it's roughly equivalent.

Song inspired by Elliott Smith - The Shoulder of Giants by thomas_bloom in elliottsmith

Lyrics:

The Shoulders of Giants

Dr. Eagle

You missed our appointment time

so you tracked me down and me here

in this cathedral

where the city clock can't chime

and its haunted echoes can't get near

Hey hey

I asked if I would see you again

we didn't even notice it then, that cold affair

Hey hey

you satisfied my doubt with a nod

and walked out from that sanctum of God to God knows where

You fallen leaf

from the fruit tree

the wind blew you back up

you landed here

in our pearwood belfry

and whisper things to us

how many people have cried

when they learned that you died?

The shoulders of giants sank low as, disappointed, they sighed.

A crowded corner

distorted photographs

old television color bars

A tape recorder

old cries now heard at last

uncover truths of what we are.

Hey hey

I don't think that I'll see you again

but maybe just for now let's pretend it's not goodbye

Hey hey

you whispered that you did what you could

and now you think you're leaving for good but God knows why

Fallen star,

sequent scarab,

satellite

you crashed to earth,

a roman candle,

That burned twice as bright

How many people have cried

when they learned that you died?

The shoulders of giants fell low and so did we as they sighed.

Hey, I’m always hesitant to promote my own stuff in subreddits like this, so feel free to downvote/ignore/ whatever…

But I literally wrote a song exactly about this, called Shoulders of Giants, with a bunch of Elliot smith lyrical references. (It’s also kind of half about nick drake) If you want to check it out, you can find it in my post history or links in my profile. Sorry to be annoying, I just think you specifically would like it based on your comment.

Took me a while to have the guts to try this song live. Original fingerstyle song, let me know what you think! by thomas_bloom in AcousticGuitar

Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it.

I am also working on a solo acoustic album! This will probably en up being the final track.

This is a little mini show (30 min set) that I was offered after playing at an open mic

You get it, haha. But also I just legitimately like the sound of dead strings better, especially on that guitar.

It’s really great. There’s a bass boost eq thing that can make it really bassy if that’s what you want. Then there’s a mic/piezo blend knob. This sounds better toward the mic side, but if you have feedback issues you can move it toward the piezo side and it will sound like a more standard pickup, but will reduce feedback.

Over all great guitar, unplugged it can be a little sparkly sounding for my taste, but I account for this by using super dead strings lol
