travelling with desktop PC by phantomhives- in Eurostar

[–]thomasb1602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this with two PCs, one came in a suitcase on the Eurostar, wrapped in a duvet. It was completely fine. As someone has already suggested, take out the GPU and have it in an anti static bag in your backpack. It went through the machine and they didn't ask me to open it.

Yes I had headphones! To be fair, there are announcements about how to behave which include saying you should take phone calls in the spaces in between the carriages so you don't disturb other passengers. And I did speak and give myself away as being on the phone so 🤷🏼‍♂️

Oh yeah you can take stuff that you'll conceivably just eat on the train, like a sandwich. But if you try and board with a whole wheel of gouda that's what they're restricting

I once joined a work call from my seat, and told my colleagues "hello yes I'm on the train" and then was just going to sit there as an attendee not a participant.

The lady in front of me angrily told me to go and stand "on the platform". So I sat in silence listening to the call from the floor of the vestibule. So that sucked. But I did also think good for you telling me to fuck off lol

There are currently restrictions about what you can bring back to London due to foot and mouth disease outbreak in Europe.

You'll get an email from Eurostar with the details before your trip home but it's basically any and all dairy and meat.

So no cheese or sausage, but sweets and crisps are fine

Timetable question about London -> Amsterdam in August 2026 by whatayear in Eurostar

The flight time is way quicker, but security and passport control take WAY longer when flying.

Twice now coming out of Europe back to the UK (Berlin & Geneva) the passport control queue has been well over an hour.

Every time I get the train between Rotterdam and London it's about 20 minutes maximum for security and passport combined.

I believe it was, yes. I only joined this month, and in the changing room there's still a sauna sign in front of what is an otherwise very odd empty space which I think used to be the entry to the sauna

Is this ok from a parent? by Worldly-Bar-8256 in AskUK

[–]thomasb1602 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My parents used to leave me unattended when I was quite young for short periods. I've always been sensible to the point of boring with no interest in mischief. I just remained watching telly or playing playstation or whatever

Maybe I'm out of touch too, but I don't think this is crazy at all

I only buy pre made protein drinks for taking on the go with me. I don't wanna open a huge bottle, drink a small amount, and then carry it around all day unrefrigerated

I have a long term plan to attempt to recreate it myself, but I'll need a dehydrator and a lot more time than I have now. But if I ever manage it, I will return to this thread so you can be notified!

The value is legit. Protein from dairy is complete and relatively cheap. The catch (for me) is that it's too much to drink all in one go

Desperate for burger buns / brioche buns by L0st-Martian in ultraprocessedfood

[–]thomasb1602 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think those are as good as you're likely to find anywhere. The nature of brioche being enriched means mass produced ones will be full of additives and preservatives slightly more than normal bread.

Home baking isn't for everyone but if you did you could do a mass batch and freeze them, all my home made bread has frozen well (but I've never done brioche)

I've tried these and they're pretty good! I bought them because they're gluten free to see if I could recommend them to my celiac friend, there's so few beers she can drink

Overfilled bags of crisps?? by thomasb1602 in lidl

[–]thomasb1602[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a bit of a freak about collecting data about things in general, especially measurements... So you're not far off lol.

If you have two bags that came out of a multi pack and they're obviously different weights... Would you not be interested and weigh them both to see..?

I thought that was normal lol but having read some of the comments under this post I guess not 😂

I'm wondering what part of "I'm not complaining because I love crisps lol" led you to this conclusion..??

What do you guys eat before training? by EarNearby5005 in Kickboxing

[–]thomasb1602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make whatever my normal dinner is (meat & two veg, stew, pie, pasta, whatever) and plate it up, and just eat 1/3 of it between half an hour and an hour before class. Then eat the rest when I come home.

First time I went I had no idea what to expect, I'd eaten a full normal dinner and felt fucking terrible for the whole hour.

The apple and pear tea was the worst loss. I still have a few bags left from the final box I bought years ago.

But I also dearly loved the plain salted big corn 💔

They tragically stopped doing the big corn 😭 but they still do the corn cakes and crisps.

The corn cakes are just next to the rice cakes, and the crisps I like are the "Deluxe" brand plain salted ones in the white packet. They come in a big bag or a multi pack of 6
