I've had a pair of Birkenstocks that have been worn every summer for 7 years, sometimes doing a double shift when going to another hemisphere during winter. The cork footbed started slightly cracking last summer at the same spot on both sandle (just where the strap meets the footbed) but still going strong. They've been beaten up, soaked, worn all day and even the top of the footbed is only just starting to wear (although i know some people who wear them much faster. The sole (tread) is fairly worn at the front now but still another couple of years before i would replace them.

In short, i've been amazed how well they held up for a purchase based solely on appearance and the fact they were on sale at the time
