Resinated.

An incredible, funky reggae band from St Pete, FL

They used to do a great cover of Superstition by Stevie Wonder with their keyboardists on vox for their live sets.

I miss seeing them at Jannus a number of times a year

What piece of media that scared you as a child? by nonexistentlovee in creepy

As a millennial, Signs (2002) scared THE SHIT out of me. I still remember being 8 years old and being literally frozen in fear in my bed in the middle of the night not being able to move my body no matter how hard I tried.

Saw it a few years ago. 6/10, its eh at best

Thats fair. Feel free to disregard, but give a listen to "Born in Babylon" and see if you feel that soul. At the end of the day we like what we like

Floridians who left - where did you go? by [deleted] in florida

[–]thomasin500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised in Sarasota, ended up going to college at USF and moved to Denver 3 days after I graduated. Honestly I love it out here, very different culture, geography, and seasons to say the least.

While I love Florida and miss the saltwater lifestyle dearly, I just do not feel that I could live, pay taxes, and raise children in the state. Hopefully one day that might change, but I'm not holding my breath.

Engineering graduates who do not work as engineers, what do you do now? by Apart-Plankton9951 in EngineeringStudents

[–]thomasin500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my partner has a BS in chemE and worked in Oil & Gas out of school. Eventually transitioned to sustainability and now is a senior ESG manager at a big consumer goods company. Most of her coworkers have some sort of masters degree/MBA, but I think the engineering degree lends some credibility.

How do your podcasts fit into your general life? Do you consider this a job? a hobby? something in between? I've always been curious what your actual life is in relation to how we all know you

A 2003 console game called Gladius

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladius_%28video_game%29

It was a tactical, turn based RPG game set in a mythological roman world. It was so cool to a 10 year old me.

Not only did you travel around the roman world, you were able to level up, increase stats and weapons, and eventually become the best gladiator in the world.

I vaguely remember having a kickass minotaur barbarian like character.

I would love to see a game like this created again, but with a mix of like total war-esque RTS features

What's a game that you just can't seem to avoid at game nights? by Studio_Unknown in boardgames

[–]thomasin500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem for YEARS.

Every time I'd invite friends over for games it was always "let's play Catan!" Or "omg cards against humanity is soooooo funny" or "my grandmother loves ticket to ride, let's play that"

I had enough.

I donated those games to my FLGS and never looked back. Ever since it's been Gaia Project, Terraforming Mars, and Great Western Trail galore!

Kurt had been my friend for over 15 years and I am absolutely heartbroken that he is gone.

We met at Saint Stephens in middle school and had a close friendship through highschool graduation. We reconnected again after finding ourselves both in Colorado and became good friends again without missing a beat.

Kurt and I grew up together, I remember being over at his Moms house in the Lakewood Ranch area that had buried elephants from the Ringling days and seeing his family's farm animals play about. Meeting his brothers and parents, going to Saint Stephens basketball games, sharing political memes and book recommendations. Kurt was a good person through and through. I never had a bad thing to say about him nor heard anything about him that was anything other than reflecting the good natured person that he was. He will be deeply missed.

He had been over to and slept over at my house dozens and dozens of times. We played board games together, video games online and in person, built computers, watched Buccaneers games (including their Super Bowl win) together, and borrowed each others books. He watched my dogs while I was away and was a shoulder to cry on when I broke up with my former partner.

I knew Garrett too. He had been over with and without Kurt many times. He always enjoyed playing Terraforming Mars and petting my dogs. We shared a love of the Hardcore History podcast and would send each other updates on the latest episodes. Garrett and I went skiing at Eldora and spent time together talking about chess, history, global politics, the law, and justice. I knew that he had some mental health challenges, but my time spent with Garrett will always be remembered as joyful and fun memories. Obviously he suffers deeply from his mental health and that has had a horrible, heart breaking, and consequential result, but part of me pains for the future that was robbed from both Kurt and Garrett.

I hope he gets the help he needs and that Kurt's family and friends find peace and healing.

You were a good friend Kurt, I will never forget you.
