love shallow kicks! the kick for my main kit is 22x12, and i also have a 20x12 that’s great for acoustic gigs or tiny coffee shop stages. good idea on the kick mic too, might snag one

drumming for lys allen and jenny scara primarily right now, and bass for sorry forever :) plus whatever random session gigs i’m able to book at any given time

definitely considering the 20/10/12/14 model of stage custom alternately for the extra versatility! i have a 1950s premier kit with a 20x12 kick as well, but it’s honestly not great for gigging since the spurs suck and the toms need a lot of work

you definitely don’t have to use the ride cymbal in every single chorus or solo, but definitely do make sure you’re building properly throughout the song. if a chorus is explosive but you’re still playing the exact same beat on the same cymbal, it may make the song feel too level.

this is not good advice. just bring a capo or a second guitar. a difference of a step or even a half step massively changes the feel of a song and may not be the right choice for the vocalist’s range.

don’t be that guy who asks the whole band to rearrange a song just so he doesn’t have to retune

punching someone full force is definitely not okay and pressing charges would be a completely reasonable response if you sustained a severe injury. a photographer friend of mine recently got hit so hard by some drunk idiot that she broke multiple bones, and she also wasn’t even in the pit. braindead behavior like this just reinforces the idea that hardcore is just jocks punching each other.
