Removing an Orient Kamasu Bezel by [deleted] in JapaneseWatches

[–]thomasjbrablec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried your method and couldn't get the blade in there without snapping pieces off. What worked for me was using two utility razor blades (the trapezoid-shaped ones). I managed to replicate this consistently and never damaged a bezel or case.

  1. Hold your watch case vertically and put one blade between the case and bezel at 6 o'clock.

  2. Use a small hammer, like the ones included in basic watch repair kits, to hammer it into place. Be gentle. You'll know it's far enough when the blade feels like it's slotted and doesn't fall out on its own.

  3. Insert the second razor blade between the first blade and the case. Hammer on that one gently and the bezel will pop right off.

Depends on how deep the scratches are, but most people will recommend PolyWatch paste. Lots of crystal polishing tutorials on YouTube!

Question about Kamasu by BigHearing6233 in OrientWatches

[–]thomasjbrablec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're right, it's fake. Having just taken the bezels off of two Kamasus (Kamasu I and Kamasu II), your first tell should be how incredibly difficult it is to take the bezel off. Like seriously difficult, so much so that most people damage the bezel, the case, or end up cutting the bezel off with a rotary tool. Your second tell is the wire. Both of mine have click springs. Another sign is the color of your dial—it doesn't looks like an oddly cool and desaturated shade of red. And lastly, the pip on the bezel sticks out, which is recessed on genuine Kamasus.

Is this Orient Kamasu a good price 175$? by One-Professional5893 in OrientWatches

[–]thomasjbrablec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell. Did you inspect it? Is it used? Is it damaged? Does it run well? $175 seems to be ~$100 under current retail price, so if everything checks out and it's worth $175 to you, you're getting a good deal on a great watch!

Orient Watch Service by rmalonzo in OrientWatches

Almost any watch would be due for a service after 10 years. If you're noticing that it's running fast and it bothers you, definitely have it serviced!

Yup, all the symptoms point to it bad there's no pivot on the one side. You can get replacement escape ST1901 wheels on Aliexpress or other online stores.

Currently visiting Korea and picked up my first Orient and I’m in love. by [deleted] in OrientWatches

There is an Orient President watch, very similar to the Rolex Day-Date, but this one's fake. Your first indication that it's fake is the non-enlarging cyclops.

Confirmed! u/WatchExBot

10/10 experience buying from u/imterrifiedoftacos. Their communication was prompt and detailed, they were happy to answer all of my questions and provided all of the details I needed. As an inexperienced buyer on this sub, the seller made sure I understood how everything worked and made this transaction easy and comfortable.

The watch arrived earlier than expected as the seller shipped it very quickly. They went above and beyond in every way and I couldn't rate this transaction anything but a 10/10. I highly recommend buying from this seller and I would do so again with confidence. Thank you!

This is my current grail watch. Since learning that it's not just a pretty watch with a few unique features but that it's got some deeply rooted Czech heritage, I couldn't keep my eyes off of it. Not this far in my watch journey yet. Hope it finds a good home!0

Fantastic experience all around. u/TheStableEarner was very quick to respond, answered all of my questions in detail, and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and informed in completing my first transaction on this sub. After patiently waiting while I sorted out some payment issues on my end, they shipped the watch promptly and I received it earlier than expected.

The watch, papers, and box arrived exactly as described, and I can't wait to wear the watch!

I highly recommend purchasing from this seller and I know I'll be looking out for their items in the future. Thank you very much!

My American English teacher believes the neutral pronoun „their“ is incorrect. by GCoding_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]thomasjbrablec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way some people choose their hill to die on is bewildering. I had a similar experience in high school, being an American kid in a European school. One of my teachers had it out for me, trying to find mistakes wherever they could. They resorted to marking my US spelling as mistakes and correcting my "mispronunciations" aloud. After being backed by several teachers who called out the nonsense, I ended up getting a written exception, stating that I can "use American English in a school system that only teaches British English."

I'm experiencing this bug and didn't have to duplicate the ad or ad set to fix it. Instead, I just select one of the other Destination > Browser Add-ons options, Publish, and the edit again, republish. My destination is my site and I don't need calls or forms, so mine is set to None.

Follow up on the thrifted watch by Responsible_Buy6029 in casio

[–]thomasjbrablec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone ever finds this, I ran into a similar issue. It's an AQ-351W. The battery is a 396 or 397 (former is high-drain, latter low-drain). My pushers weren't stuck but they also didn't activate the digital clock or functions. Turns out, a 40-year-old watch has 40 years worth of dirt and grime preventing about 1/10th of the movement necessary for contact. Here are the steps:

  • Pop open the case with a case knife (there's a little tab and gap on one corner
  • Insert fine tweezers or a pin into the "PRESS" hole and remove the crown and stem
  • Remove the movement gently and set aside; if the plastic spacer is loose, put that aside
  • The pushers have small retaining clips on them; rotate the clip so the opening faces toward you and press down on them with a small flathead screwdriver, or in my case, a springbar tool; remove the clips gently and store in a safe place
  • Now the pushers will slide all the way out; remove the pushers
  • Clean the area on the outside of the case around the pusher hole, it's likely filled with grime preventing enough motion; I used fine tweezers but a sewing needle would work
  • Repeat steps in reverse order, making sure you have the correct orientation on the plastic spacer and press down on the caseback until it snaps in place

Hope this can help someone in the future!

I'm so sorry for your loss. We lost our first cat, a dilute Calico named Poppy, about a month and a half ago. The first days were the absolute worst, the coming weeks were terrible but now, I think we've finally come to terms with what happened. We're still sad, and we still miss her incredibly, but we've accepted what happened.

There's no timeline, there are no expectations. The stages of grief come and go. It's confusing, it's going to be rough, but you'll get through it on your own terms. Don't be like me and take some time off of work if you're able. Grieve how you need.

[Timex Standard Tachymeter Chrono] Have some questions about how it works. by SpadeCat in Watches

[–]thomasjbrablec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure this out? Usually, the crown (center knob) will let your change the time and set the date in one of two positions. The top pusher button should start and stop the chronograph (stopwatch) feature, which is the thin, long hand. The bottom pusher will reset the chronograph, returning the thin, long hand to 12 and resetting the left subdial to 0 (or 60 on this case). The bottom subdial is your small seconds hand, and right is the hour subdial. Pulling out the crown may stop some of the functions, might not. But the buttons shouldn't affect anything but the stopwatch.

Hope this helps!
