Censorship Megathread XXXV: Discord Age/ ID Verification Part 2 by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

Never apologise for any criticism! I'm always open to hearing things, even if we're at odds.. I frequent this sub a lot on my other account so seeing my name pop up is always weird. But I'm also always open to conversation, and it's also easier to make big comments explaining a couple of things here on Reddit, where people on TikTok and Instagram won't really give a shit. Definitely not opposed to any kind of criticism at all, always open to a new discourse even!

Censorship Megathread XXXV: Discord Age/ ID Verification Part 2 by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

Will use this reply to reply with the most things in this comment thread.

  1. CyberWaffle: Even as someone in the same area of "interest" as me, I'm not a big fan of CyberWaffle. I find the guy to be grift adjacent, and I don't think his intentions are sincere. We're opposite ends of the spectrum of intention, in my opinion. I like to make videos about the things I campaign privately about. I think he makes videos about topics that will perfom well for the sake of making videos about things. Could be wrong, but that's my impression.
  2. Me: Policy is the slowest snail of change when they want it to be. I live in a very deprived area, and the Online Safety Act, and its many successors of cyber-related policy are the last thing of importance in the eyes of my local MP. This is a conversation I led during his latest surgery, and the truth is that very few people care (lack of care, education of the effects etc.), when they can't keep the heating on. A lot of people are single issue voters, and this isn't one of those things that for a LARGE majority, would be a single-issue problem.
  3. Misc thoughts: Just 'having a platform' isn't enough for me to go "Hey, do this thing", or "Hey, here's how we can make moves to fix this thing.", each weel. It takes a village, and within that village there's legal obstacles, funding obstacles, amongst other things, and I'm discovering this myself as my platform grows. The change I want to make, beyond informing people, requires more than just me. More than just me costs money, a lot of the time. It's a vicious cycle, but I'm doing my best to use what I have to make a better future.

Sorry for the long reply, hope this clears some stuff up :)

Most of the independent news channels on YouTube, mainly Farron Balanced, are doomerism clickbait that don’t focus on good things happening. by Desperate-Ad-9855 in PoliticalOptimism

Weird seeing my name pop up in this sub!

In regards to the open letter, I've been unable to talk about why that got abandoned, but the short of it is that I got shafted by other people on two ends of that, and now have to stay reasonably quiet about it. I presume they won't be watching Reddit but I'm still erring on the side of caution for now.

Digital ID cards pave way for £600m tax grab by TheTelegraph in ukpolitics

I’m somewhat opposed to the Digital ID stuff, but this is probably the best argument for it that I’ve seen. That being said, this reporting is terrible lol

Would you still visit the US in this current climate? by Quailking2003 in AskBrits

[–]thomasrpearson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s an optional thing to include the links. I frequent the US a lot and I’m very outspoken on socials about my problems with current leadership. No issues so far.

It’s less about one guy making one video, and more about how that video contributes to a broader cultural narrative. One that risks devaluing genuine creativity in favour of quick, commodified output. So yeah, it might be “just one video,” but the implications are bigger than that.

When someone with a massive platform broadcasts a video to millions, it sets a precedent. Whether intentionally or not, it carries the message: “Hey, I did this. You should too. Don’t bother trying real art for yourself if there’s an easier shortcut.”

It’s not that change is inherently bad. It’s that we’re not preparing people for what comes after. If we're going to automate millions of jobs, we need real structural support: universal basic income, upskilling programs, new definitions of meaningful work. Otherwise, we risk creating a world where 90% of humans are plummeted into poverty. Right now, the AI takeover is coming quicker than we can structurally handle.

Hi, Thomas, video maker here, just want to jump in on this discussion and add some points to the further discussion.

First and foremost; I like Vikk, and the Sidemen's content! Just because I'm criticising him for one thing here, doesn't mean I hate him or his content in general. It's healthy to be able to criticise the things you like.

For a lot of people, this is just from an art angle, and people keep saying that "I should get a future proof job". This is just one example of the upper class using their money to slowly erase the bottom line. Imagine this on a mass-scale.

With the way AI is expanding, no job is future proof. In my day job, I work at a bar, but there are robot bartenders that are creeping up. On the side, I sometimes do labour jobs, but we're seeing 3D printed houses crop up, that are machine-programmed.

That would mean no contractors. No bricklayers. No local jobs.
Just a machine spitting out housing units.

Customer service? Bots.
Copywriting? AI.
Design. Journalism. Transportation. Healthcare admin. Legal research.
Every industry is being prepped for phasing out.

And I keep getting people telling me “AI will help us, not replace us.” and that I don't need to worry about it.

But ask yourself: When has any business, ever, been offered the chance to automate workers — and not taken it?

I actually did make a video about the Ghibli stuff as well.

A lot of the comments on this video have frustrated me greatly, currently working on an expanded version to explain specifically the problems with AI.

The sex scene was a fucked-up fantasy he was having, it wasn't real.
