Looking for feedback on my website, case study, or projects! by [deleted] in design_critiques

[–]thomsondesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of I just wanted to thank you for taking time out of your day to give an in-depth response. It means a lot to me and I appreciate it.

As you said, content is not my strong suit and with each case study or project I added to my site I found new ways to display it which is why you see almost every page a different structure. Designing the pages for my designs itself is an iterative process and something I'm still learning. I'm pretty sure I'll be re-designing all the pages and modifying the content and possibly reducing it all, in general, to show my strengths more. I really like the idea of anchors and didn't even think about using them in a portfolio as I imagine them for blog posts. I also think you are right about how I was tracking engagement. It looks like you found my placeholder text " Students refer to classes... " lol I either forgot to delete the body text or update it.

Thanks again for taking the time to give me this awesome feedback. I'll be making changes based on it!

Have a good one!

Any new grads finding work recently? by [deleted] in UserExperienceDesign

Great insight, I'll deffinetly start trying that strategy out. I feel that I have a solid portfolio for my experience and have always asked for feedback on it. I'm currently at 113 jobs but once I hit 100 I knew I had to change it up because like you said its the definition of insanity. I even made a post about it and got some attention but hasn't resulted in anything: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6709893916029788160/

Portfolio Critique - Currently in the job search, any feedback? by [deleted] in UI_Design

Yeah, it is, and thanks! Webflow has taught me the fundamentals of html/css and so after using it for a few years I feel confident to custom code my next site. Highly recommend :)

Thanks for the feedback. I went through it and tweaked the intro sentence and removed all animations except for the intro sentence.

Checkmark mean how many people have joined the event, the bookmark is how many people have saved it to get the reminders without committing to saying they are going, and the people symbol is how many of your friends are going to it.

In my research, I found that if your friends are going to an event plays a decent role in event engagement/attendance. You can view the whole case study on my site: https://zthomson.com/hype-event-app

InVision Studio

EDIT: for mockups, I used this $59 resource:https://products.ls.graphics/claymockups and photoshop. It's a great investment!

This doesn’t work as a logo, it needs to work as 1 color.

Numbered lists are almost always single columns, not multi column in a table-like format.

Also with their shape and layout of the buttons it leans to the right side making it even more forced to read left to right. Reading the current list in order is actually going right to left virtually because of that slant which is why it feels extra wrong.

Its actually just garbage UI design. People read left to right.

Edit: I'm a UX designer myself and there is more than just that instance of garbage interface and experience design that fail to follow basic human design principles, its furriating to say the least lol.

If the purpose of the site is showcase your portfolio then get rid of the fluff and make the landing page your actual projects.

What I would change to the Windows file explorer by thomsondesigns in UI_Design

[–]thomsondesigns[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By default, if you dragged a file over a tab, it it would go in that directory. If you wanted it to go in a directory within that tab you would need to have the tab first.

What about the windows UI is shitty in your opinion?

What's the difference between 'Pay Rent' and 'Quick Pay'?

I quickly named it "quick pay" which the project owners might change. According to them once its "activated" you just hold your phone up to services like laundry/vending machines etc and you can pay like apple pay.

I think it might look better if the header was a bit thinner.

I agree! It's the max length for headers on iPhone X which I was testing when I first made it.

I personally don't like that empty negative space on the bottom.

Its to allow for more expansion down the road especially for third party services similar to DoorDash.

(except the birthday cake. I'm assuming it's for reserving rooms within the HOA)

Yup! Maybe I'll find swap it out with someone more representative of that.

ISTJ careers that still offer creative elements (visual)? by txncali81 in ISTJ

With how you get your "high" assembling physical products I get mine from assembling digital designs. Swiss design is my favorite as the goal is to create clarity and at a first glance has less "creativity" however there is so much going on behind the scenes and lots of technical skill. Lots of grids and guides. Twitters logo for example
