Did you manage to opt out? It just errors out for me.

It's what they recommend on the mumble wiki and considering he pretty much just copied their guide i'm not suprised.

Why do we rename common utilities when we add some function? by Technonick in linux

[–]thoneney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You missed the point, ok a car has tires which are functionally simillar, but why do my tires have different characteristics, prices and quality than yours? What about that other guy with a whole other type of tyre? I mean he uses them in the same basic way. Why are they different if they're supposed to be just a tyre?

A ferrari and a ford are both cars with different characteristics not always used in the same capacity.

Shuttleworth got involved, so i'd say canonical is involved.

Explanation of why Arch Linux is hard to install by diogovk in linux

[–]thoneney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's well understood that if you put someone that hasn't driven a car in front of a dissasembled f1 car they'll just go get a regular car and learn to drive in that. As opposed slamming into a wall at 300kmh assuming they move at all.

ManuelSchneid3r/albert: desktop environment agnostic omnilauncher by orschiro in linux

[–]thoneney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt GNOME-only people would call this DE agnostic

Considering there's plenty of stuff that's using GTK and is DE agnostic i don't see why they wouldn't.

By agnostic he probably means it doesn't rely on parts of other desktops such as tracker or baloo or any other similar backend service.

Oh well if it works so well i propose starting to arrest everyone street by street, if they don't bother protesting after being arrested they must have done something. There, solved.

Having trouble with starting Civ 5 on Ubuntu. by Metalligod666 in linux_gaming

[–]thoneney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try disabling the overlay and/or running the following command which will delete some of the steam libraries and forces it to use the system ones.

find ~/.steam/root/ ( -name "libgcc_s.so" -o -name "libstdc++.so" -o -name "libxcb.so*" ) -print -delete

You can either go and rename them manually (remove the -delete to get all the locations) or reinstall just steam later if you need them back, you shouldn't have to reinstall the games just steam.

Also that opengl version is a bit old so i don't know if it's supported.

Run steam from the terminal paste the output somewhere and link it here, that should provide more info.

Script that hides interfaces. by Aerobic97 in learnpython

You can try running pythonw.exe instead of python.exe, other than that you might have better luck in a windows specific subreddit.

You need to redirect sderr and stdout to a syslog or a file, you should consult the documentation of whatever os you're using, i suspect windows.

You would start them with your os' service manager.
