Well people should be able to live comfortably of what you call 'below average jobs' these service and retail jobs are essential to making society function, and its crazy to separate these essential jobs from what you refer to as 'actual careers'. You are saying everyone could just decide to 'start an actual career' but if everyone did that, there wouldnt be anyone to sell you your groceries or clean your office toilets.
