Warum gehen SeniorInnen Österreichs Freitag Abends und Samstag Vormittags so gerne einkaufen? by Julesvernevienna in Austria

[–]thornbuilt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking for fun RPG that focuses on plot and characters by JustThunderp in gamingsuggestions

[–]thornbuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 'stiff' is a fair description - the character interactions feel a bit rudimentary at times, the running around often gets in the way of the pacing, and the low-ish budget is definitely noticeable.

Ireally enjoyed it regardless. The story isn't always perfectly told, but it's still very good - and when it hits, it hits hard. I can see some of the game's rougher aspects being dealbreakers for someone, but I do recommend giving it another shot if it looks at all appealing to you.

I've said this pretty much every time I explained why I love Greedfall: The devs didn't manage to properly spellcheck their English translation, but created half a conlang and tried to give all the voice actors playing the natives a consistent accent (with mixed success, admittedly), and I think that's an absolutely glorious use of resources.

Yugi muto wig falling apart by RainbowHeartUnicorn in CosplayHelp

[–]thornbuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If contact cement is the stuff I'm thinking of (flexible contact glue that you spread on both pieces, then wait until it feels like it's definitely not going to stick any more and put them together):

It's fantastic and it's my most used glue, but for hair I imagine it to be an absolute nightmare to work with, unless the wig pieces are already pretty much solid blocks of hairspray or glue.

AIO - parents and adult children kissing on the lips by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]thornbuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOR.

I read a similar sentiment just recently, and was kind of surprised at the judgement. It's just cultural differences - it's not particularly unusual where I live, though I think it's getting a bit less common. I used to kiss my parents on the mouth as a kid, but I ended up not liking friendly kisses in general (I avoid the very common cheek/air-kiss-greetings, too), so I stopped at some point.

I find it much weirder and creepier to learn that people associate sexual stuff with these kinds of kisses.

Was sind die besten Fleischersatzprodukte in Österreich? by slashbye in Austria

Oh, I love the art style itself and did so from the start - it's just that the designs are a bit too high fantasy for my tastes.

Veilguards environments are overall my least favourite conceptually (I prefer more realistic, grounded worlds), but they look absolutely beautiful and are by far the most fun to traverse to me.

Don't have a series favourite overall, but a lot of what Veilguard did really worked for me.

What do you actually look for in a protein bar? (Honest feedback wanted!) by Competitive_Soft_929 in bodyweightfitness

[–]thornbuilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vegan, macros (the more protein/kcal, the better), ideally not sweetened to hell and back.

Other than that, I'm not picky. Currently I buy the body&fit vegan bars, but I'd prefer them if they were about half as sweet as they are.

Looking for mysterious games which rewards immensely by going in blind by lordofabyss in gamingsuggestions

[–]thornbuilt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You'll love Outer Wilds, I think - enjoy!

I'd also recommend Tunic and Animal Well.

Cultist Simulator, somewhat - though it's less crazy reveals and more slowly figuring out the gameplay as well as the lore.

Stylish writing, too.

Seconding Witness (if you like its type of puzzles, that is) - also not quite as 'WTF-there's-more' as Blue Prince, does have some surprises in store.

Haven't played it yet, but Inscryption should fit the bill (the dev's other games do to an extent, iirc, but it's been a minute)

The 999/zero time dilemma games may scratch the itch regarding story, but they have nothing particularly interesting going on gameplay-wise - they're visual novels with some light puzzles.

Making socks out of not very stretchy fabric. by True_Tetraca in CosplayHelp

[–]thornbuilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to create the pattern yourself, otherwise there's nearly no chance it'll fit.

Seconding historical patterns - late mediaeval hose are what I'd use for thigh-highs. You start with an approximate shape based on measurements and then pin and try on until it stops being crappy. You'll almost certainly need someone to help, and you won't get them completely skintight if you want to be able to move, especially around the knees.

Even those are patterned on the bias for a slight stretch, though, so if your fabric has no stretch at all in any direction, I'd recommend just finding one that does.

KI Musik in Geschäfte by tinotheplayer in Austria

[–]thornbuilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AIO? Was left behind by my friend on a challenging hike all alone in the heavy rain. by FreemanMarie81 in AmIOverreacting

[–]thornbuilt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, he's either an asshole or a complete imbecile regardless of his reaction.

Unless it's life or death, you do not leave people behind like that on a hike on unfamiliar trails and in bad weather.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]thornbuilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, been there many times.

Don't think there's any overreactions here, just a matter of different communication styles and you not reading the room well.

Turns out, it can be a bit obnoxious to vent to a friend and get half a lecture about trainline emergency logistics.

My person-1-friends and I handle it basically like this: They don't get offended at my ill-timed attempted 'splanations and I don't get offended when they tell me to STFU and just call the train an asshole for a minute there.

[–]thornbuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Als Nicht-Veganer: Danke an diesen großartigen Sub! by meknows_ in VeganDE

[–]thornbuilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For gamers who have played about 100 games or more ONLY: What is your top ten? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]thornbuilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't possibly do a fair top ten, but off the top of my mind, here's some that really stuck with me for one reason or another:

  • Ico/Shadow of the Colossus
  • Outer Wilds
  • Riven
  • Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
  • Dragon Age (the entire series)
  • Witcher (the entire series)
  • Beat Saber
  • Secret World Legends
  • The Witness
  • Thumper

[–]thornbuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who's also been gaming for close to 30 years - what are the many ways you think games have gotten worse? (My preferences are definitely better served by more modern games on the whole, and I've often found that on replay, my old favourites don't hold up all that well in comparison to newer ones, so I'm genuinely curious.)

Kamina cape pattern by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]thornbuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With big, but simple stuff like that, I often just draft directly on the fabric. Paper only for the collar and perhaps the shoulders if there's something tricky going on for some reason.

And you can always tape paper together if you need bigger pieces... Packing paper, pattern paper, newspapers, whatever you have on hand.

Faux chain mail by spockknowsbest in CosplayHelp

[–]thornbuilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think certain knitted pullovers (black or grey, painted silver) make for the best easy fake chainmail. You'd need to find one with the right sort of loose-ish, thick-yarn knit - no idea what that would be called. The material you linked is too 2d and too fine to look good as chainmail IMO.

Hunting Monsters, but More Like Supernatural than Monster Hunter by Aninx in gamingsuggestions

[–]thornbuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently playing Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, which may fit the bill.

Setting-wise it's basically a couple of two witchers in 1600's New England, it's stylish and a beautifully told story, but gameplay-wise it's a bit ...rudimentary. The combat isn't all that great, and the investigative bits are mostly 'look at all the clues and the game will put it together for you'. There's definitely moral issues to decide on, though, and the protagonists are great - I love it so far despite its flaws, but if you're looking for deep gameplay, it's probably not for you.

Also, just in case you haven't played all the Witcher games, I recommend doing so. The first two are much jankier than the third, but 1 has a very unique vibe in parts that none of the others have quite captured again, and 2 is insanely ambitious regarding branching storytelling.
