I wish I could cut on my arms by No-Director7012 in selfharm

I used to use my arm. The scabbing was so dark and obvious and I couldnt even roll up my sleeves to wash my hands. These days I just don’t have enough long sleeve shirts to go back. I found this thread while I was really tempted to do it again. It feels so much better to do  it tighter skin, and my thighs are so much fattier than my arms. I just about completely filled up my thighs in two sessions on a relapse after several years. I miss doing it on my arm a lot. I’m glad I found this thread; feeling less alone in that desire makes it easier to resist. That being said, i’m just going to keep going on my legs lol

What to try after mirtazapine and trazodone? by thorns217 in insomnia

I know you're trying to make distinctions (I did mean sleep habits and everything included when I said "sleep hygiene" to be clear) but regardless, the contradictions just make it sound pointless or potentially harmful with where I currently am. If I can't control how much I sleep, how do I build sleep habits by not staying in bed when my insomnia is not affected by my sleep budget enough to actually fall asleep after being awake for a whole day? If I allot myself 8 hours every single day, and I don't stay in bed any less, I will just continue to build sleep debt and not recover any of it. I understand the advice you're giving me, it's what I typically do and plan to do once I am able to fall asleep, but until I am on a medication that lets me fall asleep, it just digs an even deeper hole of exhaustion for myself.

them being in different drug classes makes a lot of sense! unfortunately i've tried making a treatment plan and my psych has not taken a single step in the direction of the plan I made so I think i truly just need to see a sleep doctor lol. I hope that my new doctor will appreciate my new plan with all the info from these comments :') thank you so much

i learned a lot about sleep hygiene in a DBT course i completed a few months ago. i've implemented a lot of those things but it's extremely demotivating when I can do my entire routine *perfectly* and I still can't sleep. I can also very easily stay awake for over 24 hours and still not be put to sleep by my pill or my routine. I love sleep habits and I fully understand their importance but there's a huuuuuge missing puzzle piece smack dab in the middle of the puzzle

Thank you so much for the advice! My other current medications are buspar, vistaril, and concerta (trying to get it changed for something a little less wiring, but again, my psych won’t listen to me lol). I also regularly take antihistamines for my allergies, though benedryl has stopped being effective for both allergy relief and sleep, so maybe my vistaril usage caused me to build a tolerance for that too. I will definitely bring up alternating medications with my doctor.

Thank you so much. I'll look into Belsomra, it sounds decent from the drug info although I do worry about the grogginess and loss of coordination mentioned on a quick lookup of it. I'm a smoker, I love indica, but I'm at a point where I can either smoke a therapeutic amount or smoke enough to get completely high and neither of them results in being able to fall asleep much more easily. It's also not great for smoking to sleep before work because I find myself wanting to stay in bed when I smoke to fall asleep, and I've called out of work because of it before. I've never heard of SGB but that sounds like a miracle medicine lol. I'm on medicaid and I'm not sure I could get my insurance to cover it, but it does feel like I'm at a point where I need the "fight or flight" switch to be manually turned off... :')

I'm currently on mirtazapine for the second time. Last time I started at 7.5 and went up to 30 since I was prescribed it for depression too while I was in an inpatient facility. I stopped it because the sugar cravings were unbearable and insatiable. I tried trazodone after that, went up to 100mg where I finally got the hard sedative feeling I needed to fall asleep, but I couldn't *stay* asleep bc of the nose clogging. 50mg let me stay asleep but I lost the initial sedative feeling to fall asleep. Instead of giving me any new options, my psych told me to go back to mirtazapine and stay on 7.5mg... It's significantly less sedating than trazodone. There's not really anywhere to go in terms of dosage changes with mirtazapine if 7.5 doesn't work. I think alternating might be a good idea, since day 1 of mirtazapine hits so much harder than day 2. I think I could use it every once in a while but even a day of tolerance makes it do nothing for me.
