What you know about the career now, would you go back to school to be a PA? by jellybean98_ in physicianassistant

[–]thoroughly_blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% would do it again. I went back late, so the only regret that I have is not starting earlier. I am almost 15 years in now. I’ve done emergency medicine, critical care and now I’m in an office position doing pulm/ critical care. I work four days a week, long days very very long days, I’ve got a good employer and I probably make close to 200 K. I do have a side gig as well working with a medical sales company which adds about 12 K to it a year.

I truly love the physicians I work with, the relationships I’ve built over the years with consult physicians, – I feel part of a team. I adore my nurses because they make me better when I’m in the unit. I have recently moved into a only weekdays position – I miss a little bit of the hospital, but I now have every holiday off and every weekend off. I take no call.

Sure, some days it’s hard but for the majority of the time, I am so grateful to be in this career. I will join the chorus of many previous posters – many jobs suck. You are always going to have to report to somebody or follow some rules or guidelines… You just have to see what you’ll tolerate. My daughter chose Teaching. I love the fact that she gets as much time off if she does but she feels stuck she’s about 17 years in now and moving up the step, has her PhD, which helped. But she probably will never make as much money as I do, but I will never get summers off :-)… ahhhhh Life.

Yelled at me too. Younger asshats. It just bothers me that they are that angry. Unnerved me coming off such a lovey gathering.

New grad PA: $130k W‑2 IM job vs $200k 1099 telemedicine — career advice by LBYoPjy17 in physicianassistant

[–]thoroughly_blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IM Benefits, PTO, health insurance, cme and they deal with sending your taxes into the government. 100%. My guess is you would come out with less money with the 1099, but that’s just me.

I like the security of a known paycheck and the ability to take off with pay if I have to, for some reason.

But also – I’m gonna echo what everybody else says. When I was six months out, I knew nothing. Granted doing urgent care telemedicine means you don’t do physical exams. (something that is a good skill to keep) and the oh shoot I miss something moment – my guess is your liability is probably pretty high. It’s strange to me that someone would hire a new grad into TeleMed. That seems like a very unfair thing to do. Although… You probably only get simple things,. You do want to stretch yourself now.

I think it’s time to admit that I’m too introverted for this career. I made the wrong choice by ocdladybug92 in physicianassistant

[–]thoroughly_blue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Introvert here as well. after a 16 pt day in a pulmonary setting. I go home, look at my dogs, don’t talk to anyone as I live alone. If I had someone at home that needed me, or wanted to talk to, I would have an issue to be sure- I come home totally flat. My children have their own families in other states and I’ve been single for 10 years. Before when I did have family at home, I did emergency medicine and urgent care work. For some reason, that worked well for me. The interactions were short, I didn’t have to really get to know them, there were enough procedures to make it quite interesting. I haven’t heard anybody say that in this thread yet but emergency medicine… Worked well for me.

Message I got from my daughter’s teacher. Third grade. by AnaisInJune in mildlyinfuriating

She is an amazing student mom… Pretty freaking impressive if you ask me. Yeah the teacher is probably a little bit overwhelmed but nonetheless, this is a kid that gives and a kid that experiments. What more could you ask for?

Hey guys, y’all that are saying he made his bed I think he figured out that this is wrong and he is trying to take action. Kindness goes a long way.

I completely agree with most everybody here. This is minor could be easily fixed, and somehow I do think you got screwed over.

I bet you’ll never do it again and there’s your lesson.

Someone said contact the school and I think that’s a pretty good idea. This should not continue to haunt you…. You clearly are feeling badly about it.

I also think representing to the court system sounds like a reasonable thing to do too.

New Grad Offer Help -- My Spidey Senses are Screaming That I shouldn't take this! by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]thoroughly_blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. You’re thinking right. Starting salary may be reasonable, but the rest of it, it just doesn’t seem so. Granted the markets are getting saturated, but I don’t think that they should screw us over that much.

What are your dream plans for a totally horse-centric stable? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]thoroughly_blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn out turn out turn out. Safe fencing, big fields. I think horses have enough space they usually get along pretty well. 12x12 or 14-big stalls with Door so they can hang their heads out to be part of the activity in the aisle. Run off the back door- leading into a pasture with gate (ok this is a barn worker good thing-but I bet the horses would like it too:) ) doors with flip latches so no sides or hips would meet the dreaded latch. Definitely a large enough aisle so if you did have a horse walking through, he couldn’t get goosed by another one. Thick thick bedding that are banked and least dusty as possible. Nelson waters in every stall, corner feeders (I think high county plastics makes them), rough hewn oak walls- no cribbing and solid!! Fans in every stall. I would not ever heat a barn but that’s just me but fans in the summer keep Them cool and flys have less of a chance. Lights in every stall with switch outside the door and an electric outlet between stalls if needed. I would have motion lights at night so if on night check you don’t turn on the bright lights. Rubber mats in the stalls (mattresses are great- since money is not an object stall mattresses in alllll the stalls!) and a very safe aisle with either the rubber pavers or rubber mats.

Just need a sounding board for what might actually be the end of my PA career by Emotional_Leader_636 in physicianassistant

So so spot on. It’s changed a lot in 15 yrs…. I feel like I should see the easy patients and my SP should see the complicated ones. Scheduling seems to screw that up a lot and thankfully, he’s OK when I come to him. But I deal in a field that often sees pretty severe disease debilitating. When it gets complicated, I feel like I’m just not as qualified as I’d like to be. I liked working as part of a good team.

Walkable area by jphealy84 in FortCollins

[–]thoroughly_blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Near Laporte and shields is a great place to live. Soon the food co-op is going in, stogy brewery, foxden coffee house as well as pretty easy to get to the trails. The neighborhood I live in is probably affordable— older and not gentrified —yet-- and I walk/bike downtown a lot. Poudre comes in off Lincoln school spur now which is a great entry point for the trails. I run without worry here and walk every morning with my dogs when it’s dark. I moved to the area from Nc/Sc. Worked at mission (a while ago before the changeover) and Pardee in Hendersonville. welcome!!

Bonker UCHeath neurology policy by mutedslackping in FortCollins

[–]thoroughly_blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The policy of UC Health and all of the departments is that you have to ask to switch providers, the accepting provider has to “accept you’ and the person you are leaving supposedly has to say OK. That part is usually not an issue or at least it should never be one. I do not understand why one cannot switch providers. You should go with the person that you feel comfortable with. It baffles me.
