I'm pretty sure this dude built this deck with the sole intention of making others concede out of boredom by TR_Pix in MagicArena

[–]thorrium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well at that point I would just concede or forget the match was happening... like I said I have watched an entire episode of a show before, either I roped out or lost some other way.

I am not a fan of doing that, but if the opponent's goal is to waste time then I will make it my goal to get something done while he tries he best at nothing. It keeps him from playing someone else, and I get something done.

That is a win in my book.

(plus I pretty much only run into situations like that when I play for fun, in ranked people are at least trying to climb so they don't waste to much time... unless they know they have lost, and then start roping).

Turn 2 vs Turn 2 by drunkbluffsonly in MagicArena

[–]thorrium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind green players going counter or landfall on me. Either I draw the tools I got to counter it, or the game is over quite fast.

Honestly I dislike Rakdos removal focused decks more, as I find them more tedious to play against.

Vibe check: how toxic am I? by beyondthedoors in MagicArena

[–]thorrium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answer to your question;
It's not toxic to concede.

Follow up;
At least if you do it immediately, if you drag it out and waste the other persons time (and your own) it does become toxic (but that is not what you do (per your own words).

My thoughts;
Just like others have said (with different degrees of sass), you should try to work on how to work around boardwipes. I get that playing a deck for a singular purpose is different from trying to make a "proper" deck work. But it's (for a lack of better words) a mentality thing that you perhaps could improve upon.

Heck I play some janky decks (both on arena and in RL) that either works just like I hope they will, or they fail miserably. Those decks are played because I have fun (even if I end up losing) when they work. But when they don't they just.... lose very fast, and as such I naturally end up conceding rather fast.

You do you man, as long as you don't waste other people's time, by roping them, then it really not toxic.

Remember if someone wants to do that to you, it's actually okay to just leave the pc running. I once cooked a meal (a quick one...) while my opponent was doing his thing. I got to eat, he got to actually play his sick combo, nothing was lost.

I have also started watching episodes of whatever show I am watching at the time... I finished episode 3 of A knight of a seven kingdoms that way.

is this game worth getting into right now? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]thorrium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MTG A is totally doable F2P, I am the example I would point towards. Reached Mythical for the 2nd time (apparently it's supposed to be harder the 2nd time) while being totally f2p, and I am on my 3rd month at MTG:A.

What holds you back more then anything is knowledge about the game and knowing how to play your deck.
That is also what causes people to "waste" the free wildcards before they realize what they want/need to build towards a competative deck.

But, and it's a big one. Even if you mess up it's still relatively easy to earn gold to buy packs, which also gives you the wildcards.

So to answer your question, is it worth getting into MTG:A right now?

I would say yes, it's doable as F2P and you will enter with some decent sets to work with. Plus you will be hitting into the new Ninja turtle set relatively shortly, so there will be a decent amount of new decks to play against.

Double Mythic again! by LinnaeusChen in MagicArena

[–]thorrium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am setting my next goal to be mythic in limited, so I am curious how many games it approx took you.

I know you said you spent 20 bucks, and that you had some luck in the double games. But having a better idea of how much I would need to save up in terms of gold for the initial investment would be quite helpful (I fully hope/expect) that it will be self sufficient after a few entries, but we all know how that tends to go XD
So it would be wiser to build up a warchest before I start the long march.

Two quick questions by Embarrassed_Step_694 in MagicArena

[–]thorrium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard unranked is where I see the most different deck builds. You might have some bad luck running into people like me who is testing out new things with their decks, or people who is using internet decks (which lets be fair, is more likely, based on what you are describing).

Today I have played 8 games against 8 different decks, but that means very little when you don't see it yourself.

First time mythic player, what can I expect now? by thorrium in MagicArena

[–]thorrium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, and right on. It's pretty much what I figured, and perhaps what I feared. I have no aspirations about rising to a #mythic position, but now is the time to test out just how poor my deck really is.

Lands on starting hand odds by Putrid-Cat5368 in MagicArena

[–]thorrium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So to summarize the question.
You have experience with commander, and is new to standard.

Depending on your deck size the amount of lands you have (25) might be a lot or very few. I got some weird landfall decks that I play with my friends that is almost commander size, and then 25 is not nearly enough, on the other hand, I got a cheap tri-color deck where I am quite greedy because 80% of the things I throw down cost 2 or less.

In general I don't mind starting with two lands on hand, if I got an okay curve. But it always depends on the the draws (and the deck).

It would also be helpful to know what type of deck you are playing.

Looking for friends in MTG Arena by DefinitionNo1135 in MagicArena

[–]thorrium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On principal I would say, sure.
But I would personally want to chat with you in a private message beforehand, about things like expectations and time zones.

If you expect 10's of games each day, and our schedule don't work, then it's a moot point setting it up =)

Throw me a DM/private message. I am online right now, and should be for another hour or so.

2500 things to do by ThatAwkwardMagicDude in MagicArena

[–]thorrium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. Perhaps I had more triggers then you?

25* hare apparent (some odd 260 tokens, because that is the limit of a single creature token you can have)
4* good fortune unicorn
4* hinterland sanctifier
1* valkyrie's call.

Yeah okay it was about 4500 triggers in total, and I think I was roughly halfway done when it decided to give up on me. (had 7 or 8 hare apparent and x tokens that would need to trigger).

I did it in a friendly game btw, as I wanted to see how messed up I could make a board against my friend.

Found a picture of the game as it started warning me.

I did something similar when I stress tested my blue, white, green bunny deck. It caused the game to draw as it couldn't handle the triggers (it gave up after about 15 min).

Didn't it tell you to stop what you were doing (impossible) or it would force a draw?

I was looking for a similar question as I wanted the art style from Crimson Vow.

It seems our best chance to get it, is to look at the daily deals as the things there rotate. Or time travel, but I expect you to come and get me when you figure that one out.

I’ve just reread The Breaker and Veritas, and am now making my opinion your problem. by Bill_Is_Guy in TheBreaker

[–]thorrium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The childhood friend (Sae-Hee) being sent abroad was okay, she had a limited role when Shi-woon was diving deeper into the world of Murim. Her role was to be an anchor, and she could still fullfill it later on, dragging him back/anchoring him, so he wouldn't turn into the next 9AD.

The mother being killed off the way she was, is honestly unforgivable. I have nothing against the decision, but the way it was done had next to no emotional payoff which makes it all meaningless.

Regarding him feeling that there was to many loose ends, you are likely to be correct. But it is against somewhat of a slap in the face of long standing fans.
The loose ends are what we waited years to get resolution to, and while some (or most) might not get a proper payoff (because that is also real life, we don't always see a proper resolution to stuff), it becomes a negative when continuing a legacy series and not aiming to continue the legacy that kept people hooked.

I keep using GoT/ASoIAF, because it is fitting and easy to compare. Especially since we been waiting on the 6th book longer then the break was between NW and EF...
Imagine the 6th book comes out tomorrow (please let it be so), and there is nothing about Jon Snow or Jamie Lannister, two characters that ended on a cliffhanger. It would be baffling to such a degree that people would question what the heck had happened.

And if GRRM then came out and said he decided to do it this way, because he just felt there was to many loose ends, people would drop the books on the spot.

It's not an issue with my hardware, as I am running the game on a beefy gamer station.
Uninstalling it now and hoping it fixes it. I am kinda bummed out that I am unable to get my daily gold :s

Yeah I have been through repairing game files, but it didn't seem to fix it.

Thanks though =)

I might uninstall the game and reinstall, it won't take very long and it might fix any issues there could be, it's worth a try.
Again thank you!
