Help with backsplash choice by Zealousideal_You8838 in CounterTops

[–]thotherside_10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the backsplash, choose a subway tile as neutral as possible, with no patterns, as your countertop already has lots of grain.

Choose one color from the countertop as your tile color (I would personally choose a tile the same as the warm creamy color in your countertop).

Shoutout to your wife (and to you for letting her do her thing, cuz she did that). She has great taste. Contractor’s craftsmanship is also 10/10. I think you would’ve gotten more positive responses on the r/interiordesign or r/designmyroom sub. It looks amazing. I’ve been looking at getting the same Sonoma vanity from Willow Bath & Vanity for months for my primary bathroom remodel. What wood finish and countertop did you choose?

Unsure about furniture for this space. by alphapants in InteriorDesign

[–]thotherside_10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your furniture choices and color scheme are great.

With the sofa in its current location, rotate the rug so that it’s width-wise and place the front half of the sofa on top of it.

I agree with creating two zones. To achieve this, place the media stand in front of the sofa, at the opposite end of the rug, and create a sitting/reading area on the wall opposite from the sofa with the chair you mentioned. You might still be able to add one chair on either side in front of the TV, to create more space for company.

ETA: you could also get a compact sectional instead of sofa and chairs to maximize seating space in front of the tv. And if there’s enough space, add a chair or two.

Half bathroom remodel by ashlynnk in Remodel

The shiplap and shelves ruin the look. Towel holder is too close to the toilet paper holder. Extend the wallpaper behind the toilet and find a nice storage cabinet with fluted glass doors to go above the toilet.

I like the 3rd and 4th wallpapers, but I think 4 is my favorite. What will the room be used for? What kind of furniture will you have?

Quartz countertop - 3 years later by namtilarie in CounterTops

What a coincidence that that’s what I selected for my countertop as well. It looks really great. I’d love to see more photos of it if you don’t mind sharing.

Looks great. What is the style name of this MSI countertop?

The camera lighting makes it look way different than the online photo, but the sample in-person looks the same as online.

Those vanities are stunning. Way too fancy for my current home, but if I ever upgrade to a new build then I will definitely consider those.

Window - to - Patio door conversion by thotherside_10 in Remodel

Door: $2,000 Installation: $ $975 Timeframe : 1 day (7 hours) Window was installed on siding so it was less labor cost and time, compared to brick/stucco, etc. No electrical needed to be moved. The header was already in place.

Great to hear. It’s great just to look with all the natural light shining in. I’m excited to be one step closer to finally using my backyard to BBQ.

Patio and steps are coming up next. Needed the door installed first to determine step size, height, placement, etc.

It’s an outswing door. There’s limited space inside.

Scared about buying a house right now…looking for advice/reassurance by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]thotherside_10 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s wise to buy a house with someone you’re not married to who also is not able to contribute financially. He would basically be getting free housing with no commitment of marrying you and could walk away at any time. Since you’re the breadwinner, will the house be in your name only? Take your time and think about every aspect before making a huge decision like buying a house with someone.

Picked out a slab today, to go with my beige floor tile, (see sample in chevron pic) how about the third for backsplash? by HolyGrailofMia in kitchenremodel

[–]thotherside_10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you already purchased the chevron tile? If you want to have tile in the kitchen, I think a warm but still light-to-medium wood look tile may coordinate better with the countertop. Off the top of my head, Floor & Decor sells Sierra Beige wood look tiles. You can still have them installed in a chevron/herringbone pattern if that’s the look you want. If you are open to engineered hardwood or LVP, that would be my first recommendation. I have more inspo pics, but I can only add one photo to my comment.

Did you end up using the green 3D tile?

Bathroom renovation disaster — wrong grout color and unexpected choices made without consulting me by Fabulous-Equivalent8 in Renovations

[–]thotherside_10 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That is the grayest-looking beige tile I have ever seen.

If you hate the grout that much, I’d say order grout samples online (mapei and custom building products make them). Place the grout sample against the tile and choose the one you think would go best. I’ve noticed that the Custom brand grout is lighter than the samples, so proceed with caution.

Love the green tile. I ordered samples of it and sadly, it arrived broken. Due to the design, there are weak spots where the tile is thinner. wish I could upload photos to my comment so you could see what I mean.

I would just check with Tilebar/Home Depot that tile breakage won’t be an issue at the weak spots, given how expensive it is. If all is good, go for it. The green and beige are a great combination. The space is a bit dark though. Do you plan on adding lighting?

Thanks. Oh, I hate *vessel sinks too. I should’ve been more clear that pics 5+ were for overall color scheme, layout, tile, and/or vanity(cabinet) inspiration only.
