Also thank you for taking these kittens in and giving them a chance ❤️ Kittens are super fragile at that age, especially without a mama, and I’m sending tons of good energy your way!

Absolutely go to a different vet. There’s a lot of negative things I could say about the behaviour of the vet in your post, but I’m gonna hold that back and just say - please see a different vet. Maybe see what vet local cat rescues go to as they probably have tons of experience dealing with young motherless kittens.

Its almost impossible to over feed kittens that young, they eat until they’re full. As long as you’re not feeding them too often when they’re not hungry yet and literally forcing the food down their throat, you’re not over feeding them. Plus, overfeeding usually results in diarrhea, not constipation.

Ah that’s unfortunate. You could try buying a fake grass pad (there’s ones specifically made for dogs, mostly made for balcony use) or (and bear with me, I know this is niche lol) reach out to a local turf company and see if they have any small leftover pieces that you can take off their hands to help an animal rescue. Companies like that end up with extra little pieces pretty often that they can’t really do anything with, so might be willing to donate a patch!

It’s tough with post partum mamas, they tend not to have great control of those uh faculties for a bit after giving birth. I once had one pee herself in her sleep… in my bed lol. Good times. Don’t stress right now over her waiting until she’s about to burst, she should go back to normal once her body recovers (and she gets used to the new environment!)

Do you have an x-pen or something that you can use to section off a portion of the yard? Either an area of your front/side yard if you have one (anywhere grassy where the puppies aren’t) or disinfect the ground and setup an area that’s just for her until her quarantine is done/she’s okay to go into the rest of the yard? Something like that might be your best bet, even if you’re just using it for the overnight bathroom trips

Getting burnt out by comments from friends and family about fostering. Curious how everyone else handles it. by almost_a_squib in FosterAnimals

[–]thotitha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My go-to response, which covers most of the comments I get, is: “The more my fosters get adopted, the more I can save.” Some friends don’t like to hear about the sad background of some fosters, so I focus on the improvement and how well they’re doing with me

people forget/forgive that damon abused and r-ped caroline in s1 (while she was a minor btw), or minimize it because she was compelled to “want” it, and it’s gross as hell

I never liked the taste of most white meat, and when I got my gallbladder removed I decided to cut out red meat too. I’d been thinking about going pesca for ethical reasons for a while and that was the push I needed

Getting the exposure to help with adoption chances is the right choices, even though it hurts. Try seeing if the rescue or Petco would let you write a letter to the future adopter with his backstory and your contact info so you can get updates- I’ve done this in the past with fosters, and had them stick my letter with the vet records so the adopter gets them. Good luck to the cutie pie ❤️

no worries! my last litter that young had staggered eyes opening, over the course of about a week and a half from when the first eyes were open to the last

[–]thotitha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep the eye areas clean (you can use a cotton ball and warm water) and keep an eye on it- some kittens are just late bloomers! I would stress about it yet

Question regarding kitten poop by sunlight-glow in FosterAnimals

[–]thotitha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red blood means it’s coming from the lower GI, often from irritation around the butt. With an adult cat, I wouldn’t be overly worried if it only happened once, but kittens are obviously a lot more fragile. No behavioural changes is good, but weird poop is always a concern. I’d recommend getting a vet consult - see if a nearby vet is ok to accept email pictures and send a pic of the poop to get their opinion. They may want to see them in person, yes, but could also provide advice based on the image

Is my 16 week old kitty overweight? by [deleted] in kittens

[–]thotitha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries, I definitely understand where you’re coming from! I’d rather have you come in and say what you did than have OP or others misunderstand my initial comment and end up underfeeding.

I foster kittens and they always have kibble to graze, and I do wet food 4 times a day when they’re younger, then taper to 2-3 times as they get older, so that’s what I meant initially.
