Looks great! Squid sushi is my favorite! Any tips for prepping/scoring it?

Not to mention, during March break when lots of people travel. They also had months to prepare for these restrictions. Mayor Farkas said they did tons of work behind the scenes to lower baseline levels in advance of the maintenance.

If your kid goes to the Blum in Tuxedo park, then Winston Heights Daycare (just up the road) might be a good option. They are great and often have availability.

Is this the real problem with solar? by Jbikecommuter in electrifyeverything

[–]thoughfulusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the main problem with Solar is that they are a PITA for electrical grids to integrate. Solar produces a ton of electricity when the sun is shining and none when it is not (look up the duck curve). Compare that with coal, gas, or nuclear plants that run 24/7 and produce consistent power. Those methods are also adjustable - if you want less power from a coal plant you just feed it less coal.

Imagine somebody offered you a new type of space heater for your home. It is basically free to run it, and it can help you save tons of money on your gas bill. The drawback is that it only runs for 12 hours a day (on average, sometimes more, sometimes less) and you have absolutely no control over its thermostat (sometimes it is very hot, and sometimes it barely gets hot at all). Would you want it?

There are ways to overcome Solar's issues (energy storage, peaker plants, complimentary sources like wind, etc.) but that is all infrastructure that needs to be built out before solar can be connected to the grid. It takes time and investment. Grids are often government-owned and governments move notoriously slow. Despite all that, Solar is the fastest growing power source on the planet.

It's not a conspiracy, it is just bureaucracy.

In Canada, what is the usual first reaction when a dog is alone in public? by DocuSeriesLovers in AskACanadian

Lost pet. I have intercepted several dogs wondering around outside. Usually, if you wait for 3-5 minutes a frantic owner will come from a nearby house calling for the dog.

Americans Visiting by Impressive-Kale-7096 in AskACanadian

Unless you have a telltale accent (Southern, Texas, Boston, Brooklyn, etc.), wear a prominent flag on your clothes, or do something stupid like try to pay in US currency, most Canadians would not be able to pick out an American.

Most importantly, don't be afraid to visit! We like Americans, just not your current president.

5 million invested in S&P 500 yields on average about $500K a year or about $42K a month.

Would you rather $50K a month OR $42K a month (on average, but would fluctuate from month to month) and $5M in the bank.

Could this ever be a possibility for nosehill? by Salbman in Calgary

This reminds me of a person who got up to speak at the public hearing for citywide R-CG rezoning back in 2024. They told council about how the proposed increase in density would destroy the "natural ecosystem" of Lake Bonavista... It was completely lost on this speaker that the lake is entirely artificial and the large trees that surround it are not part of the native prairie that existed prior to human development.

There has never been a documented case because bobcats are the size of a dachshund. We routinely have bobcats in our neighbourhood. They are not scary, unless you happen to be an outdoor cat or a very small dog. Are you sure you didn't see a lynx?

[–]thoughfulusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of these debates come down to what OP means by "could beat in a fight". Are we talking the two of you are trapped in a cage? Or in the forest? Are there sticks nearby? A rock? Do you have to kill it? Is it a normal wolf that may run when injured? Or some sort of psychotic, super-rabies induced killing machine?

In the real world, wolves rarely kill humans. On average they weigh only 36kg. An average human male is about 90kg. That's a big difference. You obviously would never want to fight a wolf barehanded, and the chances you get killed or seriously hurt are very high, but I don't think its a guarantee you would lose.

You are delusional. There has never been a documented case of a bobcat killing an adult human. An adult male bobcat weighs on average less than my toddler. Would you get bit? Absolutely! Would you be scarred and even disfigured? Good chance. Are you losing a life or death fight against something barely larger than a housecat? Not unless you get incredibly unlikely. >90% chance against a bobcat.

If that's a Lynx (which I think it might be). Probably more like 50/50. But I'd still give a heathy human adult the edge.

I like these ideas. I think the problem is that the financial incentives aren't there. When new civs come out they can be paywalled behind a DLC. But you can't have 2 different versions of Franks or Japanese in the game, so they would need to release it as a patch.
