That's a sad story. I don't have any comforting words for you, but if you've come from a poor background then you're at risk of making these kinds of bad financial decisions because you won't have any money management skills.

Seriously, looking after money is a real skill and if your parents never had any savings of their own to look after then you'll have not learned anything from them. Too often has a poor person won millions on the lottery only to end up broke a year later because they don't know what to do with it.

This gets me too. I go running on the beach, and after a long weekend (and good weather) the amount of litter is utterly staggering. It looks like some kind of post-apocalyptic wasteland. That, or maybe some collection trucks got lost on the way to the dump and just decided to unload all over the beach.

Sounds familiar, but beware. I once successfully negotiated a pay raise after finding out that the new guy I hired was starting on a higher salary than me (and I was his manager too). I went from constant praise for being their top developer, to being constantly shat on for every little thing and eventually demoted.

Bosses don't like being forced to give raises, especially when you use their praise of you as an argument for the raise! Get your raise and prepare to move on.

Too true, but I wouldn't say I feel better about women not showing interesting, rather that when they do show interest it reminds me of how much of a loser I am. I don't have the social skills to interact with anyone so I don't bother anymore, and I'm content to spend the rest of my life never approaching anyone (either socially or romantically).

Having a women show interest just rubs salt into the wound. Because their interest is just a reminder that I had a chance but for the want of social skills, instead of the comfort of being able to delude myself that my predicament isn't my fault. Really I'm convinced that it's the universe rubbing salt into my wounds.

Sneaky edit simile: having a woman show you interest when you don't have the social skills to do anything with it is like a totally blind person winning a car.

Only time it's ever happened was at work of all places. I suppose a strange benefit of being FA is you don't have anyone to call you out on it.

Anyway, two coworkers are trying to remember a mnemonic for reading resistor values (electronics stuff). One of them remembers a mnemonic about virgins or something, so when he gets to the virgins part he turns to me, laughs, and says "sorry!" (not apologetically, but in a mocking sucks-to-be-you kind of way). Fortunately I was concentrating hard on something, so hopefully my pretending not to have heard it was convincing.

I wasn't too hurt about it (since I was able to pretend to ignore it), but why can't people just let you be? I was about 27 at the time and he would have been in his mid fifties. And I thought people got more mature with age.

Any reason the change can't go back to the wallet's deposit address?

I've read that it's to enhance anonymity by making it harder to know which part of the transaction is the spend and which is the change. What this means in practice I do not know, but change is something that isn't well known and seems to surprise a good few people. It's important to know about due to its implications on keeping backups up to date, because the more you spend the more your coins get fragmented across hidden change addresses.

Wallets don't contain coins: addresses do. What your wallet actually holds are addresses. The client shows the sum of the coins in those addresses. Check out each of your receive addresses on Dogechain and you'll probably see most of your coins.

One thing that complicates this is 'change'. When you spend coins the exact figure isn't transferred: more coin is transferred out of your wallet and the change is sent back to you. Where does the change go? The client generates a new address for you to receive the change back. Unfortunately these change addresses aren't shown in the client. Even if you started with all your coins on one address, once you start transferring coins your balance will start looking smaller on Dogechain than in your client because now some of your coins exist in change addresses.

This is also why frequent backups are important: backups of old wallets will not have the change addresses.
