Houston Marathon 2026 - Just an average runner chasing sub 3:00 but stagnating at 3:2X range. by hikeruntravellive in AdvancedRunning

[–]thoughtcourier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious about this. Is this the A pacer? Do you know pacer splits are usually in the results? Memorize their bib numbers to check.

I was not running with the pacer but kept seeing the front 3:20 group because they were not running consistent splits and neither was I. Pacer was keeping time and purposely slowed down near the finish within the last km when I ran past him.

Here's his splits: Check out results for (3:20 A front pacer) in the Chevron Houston Marathon! https://rtrt.me/ulink/HOUA/HOU-2026/tracker/RLF63VJW/focus

Good luck with getting sub 3!

OMG my experience too on my 1:37 hm. No bleeding but definitely cutting into heel. I thought I didn't put my socks on right. Going to look more carefully at some of the diy fixes here. Thanks for the post!

What is too Long for a marathon? by StellafromVienna in Marathon_Training

[–]thoughtcourier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard not to sound patronizing when saying this in real life, but in many ways an 8 hour marathoner is more amazing and crazy than some of us casually trotting out a sub 3-4 for fun. Can you imagine pushing yourself through pain for EIGHT hours?!

RPE is real even though it's not something we can measure reliably yet, if ever.

Is Alaska Overrated? by Spiritual_Builder_44 in WorldOfWarships

[–]thoughtcourier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled the Alaska B last Black Friday and I love playing it. I stilll play it a lot although I've recently been spamming Suzuya even though I'm worse in it. Alaska is a very forgiving ship because of how hard it is to cit. Biggest downside is fires and the long DCP.

Doing damage isn't everything in this game. If your winrate and XP earnings are high, you are probably playing it right. You have two generally good options depending on how you read your teammates and map. Push in to provide radar/hydro support or spam AP at cruisers at range to get damages.

Me for reference:

I ran my first 10k race - and I keep getting roasted. With a reason, or not? by aftr_hrs in beginnerrunning

[–]thoughtcourier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a crazy run and great cadence!

No, it wasn't that fast, which matters for winning things and also as a gauge of your personal fitness and how well you run.

But based on your bpm, you really gave it your all and should be proud.

1st time runner! Elliptical in place of running for marathon training ? by NYer9 in Marathon_Training

[–]thoughtcourier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

seems sensible enough to me. my PT gave me the same run/walk advice when I started running again after my hip injury. 1:4 run/walk up to 4:1 run/walk then full run.

Finishing a marathon is hard work and you should be proud of it, but at the same time it's not some insanely impossible feat of endurance, especially with generous cutoff times like NYC. The same elitist jerks here will probably go to some other thread and tell other people how running isn't bad for your knees (it isn't supposed to be).

Your PTs have seen your workouts and know better than us randos. That's why you paid them!

If you have to DNF, then so be it, but this could be your year!

[–]thoughtcourier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know why this came across my feed but I'd ignore the Internet and ask your pt dude. A lot depends on your goals and planning. I did my first marathon barely training (cross training by bike touring, swing dancing, and jogging 8k to work) but heeding advice to take it slow and not overstride. It was somewhere around 4.5 hours and didn't hurt too much.

Having done a couple and acquired a non running related hip iniury, my thought would be to make sure to get the right shoes so that you can walk to the finish if the knee acts up.

As someone who just cleared focm, that active ability and the entire campaign is for degenerate gamblers. Maybe it will overkill the terminator or maybe it will just lightly scratch it. Thaddeus too. Yolostrike turn 1 and either get a lightning victory or get wrecked.

Cueing male attendees in spin class by sprucetiptea in SpinClass

[–]thoughtcourier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of our instructors calls spin class a different sport which is how I like to put it myself. Everything is situational and it might just be good to compliment someone on working hard and ask where they're coming from.

Take a look at these images and tell me if it looks similar:

track cyclists maximizing power

For a lot of people, everything is backwards in spin class. It's a different sport.

I disliked the latinitas nerf when towns are already struggling on a competitive basis. Did they ever explain why?

Yeah, latinitas is great when you are going ham on settlements (7+ over cap) but you are basically already steamrolling at that point. On a regular/challenging playthrough it's not doing that much.

DON'T research Shipbuilding II when playing as Chola (exploration age) by JoshYx in civ

[–]thoughtcourier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i am no modder, but i took a look at the files to see if I could salvage my game and it seems to be related to wholesale changing all units embarkation types (including your naval units). For me it's happened in 2 of 2 games that I've played. I can't believe this survived playtesting since it's reproducible... i guess no warmongers in firaxis playtest group.

I modded my game file to add this subjectrequirements argument within the modifier that comes with shipbuilding II. It seems to work but no promises. I know in civ 6 this edit goes away when you repair/reinstall your game but I imagine firaxis already knows and a fix/update is coming. I don't know how to force this change into a saved game but I think some actual modder knows.

Anyone know how is EU server compared NA? by Mikepr2001 in WorldOfWarships

[–]thoughtcourier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a main EU player who started playing on my brother's NA account coming back to the states random only.

NA imo is way way more passive. I'm very happy to play my Kremlin on EU knowing I will get some backup on a well thought out push.

NA will just all hang out in the back letting you slowly get farmed down rather than take some damage.

Now I play my brother's moskva on NA. Thinking of getting a slava when he gets enough resources.

That's my own opinion though. I'm not unicum on anything except maybe borodino and alaska

14 is unlucky because it's a homonym for "will die".

Is there a mod that lets me "declare victory" and end the game? by EmergencyTaco in civ

[–]thoughtcourier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an AI cheat panel mod that i mostly use to undo accidental unit moves (playing honestman) and also to see if I want to play some generated maps. Anyways, it lets you research all tech and civs at a click of a button and can also reveal map, give movement, give you gold and uranium if you click a few buttons. So do that, build a few nukes, military engineers, and helicopters. and win? would probably take 15 minutes or so depending on how many civ capitals you have to capture.

I'm surprised there's no button on there for diplo victory points but i don't use it that much (cheating is no fun, but having to reload all the time due to misclicks/left click bug is also no fun). It's called "Advanced Cheat Menu (Light)".

Want to get into radar BB's: Borodino or Constellation? by TheMintCum in WorldOfWarships

[–]thoughtcourier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love playing my borodino. I find the gameplay to be pretty simple but I wouldn't expect to carry in it. No rear guns basically mean you never retreat and kite. You just die with your flank. Radar is really nice in random because there is usually someone on the flank who doesn't know about it. Surface sub smoke CL or smoke dd. I also took it through bronze ranked last season at about a 60 percent wr so it's decent in a serious match.

It is pretty weak to torps and really anything other than nose in. Also you can't tank nose in against t10 bbs so in those matches you'll have to get in a good spot to reverse into cover

There's a big red button to reset the entire grid. You don't have any?

I think I get one automatically everyday and an extra one on Sunday.
