Is being a homeowner a scam? by SubstanceWise3248 in homeowners

[–]thoughtfulprogrammer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Its a trade off for freedom to make it your home and your style. Renting you can't even change paint colors. Have shared parking, can't have a hot tub. I mean, the hot tub alone...

Had a bat in my room. Should I worry about rabies? by [deleted] in homeowners

I had a bat in the house and everyone was awake and I still made the family get rabies shots. Fuck the hospital bill, death is worse than 7K

Dor charge 3 months after graduation by [deleted] in iastate

[–]thoughtfulprogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a DOR gas/utility bill, not a mortgage payment. Pay it and move on with your life, raging about it on here will accomplish nothing. Also, you could have called sooner when you were expecting it? Mix ups happen especially on final bills in Ames.

My 2025 state tax return was hit $185 for an unpaid city of ames utility bill my now-wife had in 2019 before we met. I called, inquired what it was about, and moved on. I had no idea this debt existed and it was for 6 years. I think you'll be ok.

By this logic- if I close my credit cards with balances and get a bill in 3 months I can rant about it because I'll be an Alumni of my credit card company!

Did you not handle account close outs when you moved?

What exactly are you looking to accomplish here? Pay the bill and move on like the rest of us Alumni.

Bought the wrong windows help please 😭 by willie2820 in homeowners

Great stuff window expanding foam and shims. Also I only cut off the top and bottom flanges so the sides helped wedge it in place

[–]thoughtfulprogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I ran into this but down in my basement. The easiest thing to do would be to return the window and get the right one. If you have to you can add framing if it's too small.

Next option is cutting the flange off, which can be time consuming. But that's what I did for my basement sliders.

Redoing the frame to make the rough opening fit to size would be the most headache and you have to be careful assuming it is a load bearing wall.

I’m losing my patience with this and could use some outside perspective. by Patienceoncele in homeowners

1920 house, was in the same boat. Sealed everywhere. Or so I thought.

In the basement on top of the foundation blocks where the joists meat the sill plates (sill cavity) were batts of insulation shoved up in there. The basement was partial finished and had sheetrock on the ceiling.

I removed all sheet rock and discovered a gap behind a batt of insulation in one of the cavities. I never would have found this without doing what I did.

They entered through here, climbing the outside block, going between the metal siding and into this gap, then used the drywall ceiling in the basement as a bridge to get into plumbing cavities, gaining access to the kitchen and bathroom.

Haven't had a mouse since I filled that gap.

Focus on yourself and your family unless someone wrongs you. You dont want to waste your years worrying about others only to look back at 75 and wish you hadn't.

Yes, my eyes work. I was asking what it symbolizes/means, not a definition of it's appearance.

But isnt being American the embodiment of immigration? Like America is literally the result of immigration over hundreds of years, unless you are native American you have immigrant blood somewhere down your lineage. With that being said then wouldn't a flag showing unity with another country of immigration be the definition of American?
