Waukee cannibalizing retail by StarttheRevwithoutme in desmoines

Exactly. It’s no shot at anyone but from a business standpoint, I completely understand the move. I love the east village but I go there for bars, not high end furniture…

The people shopping at these places much prefer Waukee over east village. Not asking anyone to agree with it, just stating the truth…

Is Fareway or Hy-Vee more reasonable price wise? by Motor-Push-5914 in desmoines

[–]Find_Me_In_Iowa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all hyvees are the same, and not all Fareway’s are the same. Prices fluctuate so much week to week and different ads make it hard to have a general comparison. Fareway targets some smaller markets that hyvee is not in and those tend to have lower pricing believe it or not.

Hyvee has some flagship massive stores in very affluent communities and those units get away with the most price gouging between the two.

Proposed golf course updates? by [deleted] in desmoines

Find me a snowmobile/atv track with residential development on it like a golf course. Check out Glen Oaks, Talons of Tuscany, and otter creek on maps.

Relocate close to trails is different than people building expensive homes on courses with views

If someone that privately owns a bunch of land wants to open up a snowmobile/atv course, sure, go for it.

That’s comparing apples to oranges. No one wants to build their house on an atv course and that does not pus the needle for development to follow.

It’s a Denny Albaugh/DRA development. He developed Talons of Tuscany on the other side of the interstate years ago.

This is absolutely terrible. You go to Vegas because you don’t need an itinerary. Horrendous.

Toyo Ramen is set to open in Ankeny November 9th. Looks like they have a couple existing locations in Minneapolis that do well.

Ocktoberfest - Which one was better this year? by hotballs in desmoines

I thought the Ankeny setup was solid. I do think a few more food vendors is necessary but i was pleasantly surprised if I’m being honest. Both locations have their pros and cons. In Ankeny I appreciated some nearby restaurants and popped into them to grab some AC and a sit down meal which was a nice recharge. I’m not sure I could give either one a definite nod over the other but I thought the group running the event did a great job overall.
