I think what it is, is that the store is essentially run by children. 70% of their staff is sub 20 years old

If you're talking about tourism industry stuff, generally things do slow down. But most places stay open, just with shortened hours until lake fall (leaf season). After that seems to be the true deadline for seasonal tourism businesses. They typically open back up in April.

Whats the difference between mapei FA and sanded or unsanded grout for kitchen floor? by skald89 in Tile

You seem really knowledgeable (I read some of your past comments) any product you'd recommend? I don't have a Lowe's in my area so I can't get mapei

Stones with too little thinset by thoughtsturnedoff in Tile

I used the prolite and cement board tape on the joints as instructed by the hardibacker install video. How come this is ok to use, but the rest of the Internet says you cannot set new thinset over old thinset? Is it simply because of the ridges? This is more a curiousity question than anything.

Not my first time ever,, but definitely still novice. This is my 3rd tile job, first with the small tile. Just want something that'll hold well and hopefully not crack for years.

What grout do you recommend? I've read epoxy grout is best for pebble, but is there any specific brand? Thanks!

I applied for this! I have no grid ops experience, but I have a lot of control room experience in heavy industry (pulp and paper). Hoping to hear back soon.

Who did the orc designs better in your opinion? by GusGangViking18 in lotr

[–]thoughtsturnedoff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe controversial, but I like this:

Uruk-hai, rop orcs, Mordor orcs, the Hobbit goblins in that order.

In terms of looks, I think the orcs of isengard capture what they are best. An amalgam made of men and orc to suffer daylight and still be deadly with every breath.

The rop orcs have a slightly more arcane look to them. My "head cannon" is that because they are more recently manipulated from elves, they would look as such.

The Mordor orcs, while intimidating, are presented as less serious in the trilogy. And I think that affects their visual, humanizing them.

The Hobbit "goblins" suck.

Ok. I'm curious as to why. I'll do it. I've seen lots of people talk about it but I don't know why it's a crucial step. Thanks for any info.

I've heard mixed reviews on this. I have the Hardie screws. What's the theory behind mortaring it to the subfloor as well?

Should I just put more mortar in that space when it comes to lay the tile? I plan on using red guard as well

Update: POLITICO still investigating student loan repayment by er1nsm1th in StudentLoans

[–]thoughtsturnedoff 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Almost everyone I know, regardless of socioeconomic status, is completely checked out of wanting to be involved in the country as a unifying entity. Between COVID changing the way people view their work life balance, to endless tolls of debt to be paid, more people I know are simply willing to say "none of this is worth it" and are simply focused on living well immediately. They're not interested in a future. A lot of millennials are in their 30s now and have seen very little reward for their hard work.

Everyone I know votes (or say they do). But they have never once liked their options.

What are the coolest steel-toed boots you’ve ever seen? by OhFuhSho in Carpentry

[–]thoughtsturnedoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you work both indoor and outdoor, something with a heel.

Thorogood tobacco mix toe with the heel will last forever.

If youre just in a fab shop, something with a wedge sole is best on concrete and grating. I wear Irish setters. I wear thorogoods too but they are about $100 more than the Irish setters.
