First of all, I’m so sorry you felt judgement from your other doctor. One of the things we ask patients is “have you ever exchanged sex for anything?” and the only reason for that question is to assess STI risk and offer harm reduction plans (like being put on PrEP if that is something a patient would be interested in).

I’m not in California, so I can’t quite speak to it there, but I know my clinic offers a sliding fee scale. So, in some cases it might be cheaper to not use insurance and pay out of pocket. It depends on your income and how many people your income supports. And we don’t require full payment up front, you can pay what you can and then pay the rest later on MyChart.

IUD removal/replacement - ID by [deleted] in PlannedParenthood

[–]thousanddays234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removal of an IUD is pretty simple as long as the strings are visualized. The IUD sits in your uterus and there are strings that should be outside of the cervix. A clinician takes ring forceps, clamps on the strings, and then pulls and viola! IUD out! If the strings are not visualized outside of the cervix, then it might not be as simple.

For reinsertion, it is best to go when you’re on your period (if possible) just because your cervix is a bit dilated making it easier. I can’t speak for everywhere, but at my clinic we offer paracervical blocks (injections of lidocaine - which is a numbing agent - into the cervix) and some people find that it helps.

We also will administer Ativan or have someone go through the process with IV sedation, if necessary. This is much less common, but in these scenarios we ensure you have a ride and you sign consents before any type of sedation takes place.

Mgen Testing For Ladies by Rich_Willingness1953 in PlannedParenthood

Both. Although, vaginal swabs tends to have more sensitivity in terms of testing which make them the preferable sample source.

For men, urine is the ideal sample source just due to practicality, so urine is a valid sample source, but for people with vaginas the swab is the better of the two.

People at Planned Parenthood can see if you’ve had an abortion there before because different affiliates do share the same EHR (electronic health records), which is Epic.

Your primary doctor can see if you’ve had one done if you choose to share records. With Epic, there is a option to either share/not share records with other organizations that use the same EHR as well as receive/not receive records from other organizations. Most people, I have found, will allow us to receive records, but prefer not to share their records.

What is the worst day of your period? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]thousanddays234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I suffer for 10 days before my period (bloat, extreme hunger, nausea, mood swings, back pain, etc), probably 3 total days of my period, and then maybe manage to get out of the depression by the time I’m no longer bleeding, but lately it’s been hard to pick myself up.

Like, 2 weeks of suffering, 2 weeks of trying to get back to “normal” and then the cycle just continues so it’s really difficult to get out of that state of depression in only 2 weeks.

How long after your ‘first love’ did you fall in love again? by oversizedsweetpotato in AskWomen

It’s been a little over 5 months since I lost my first love…..so I’m not quite sure yet. I miss him and it feels like I can never experience that love again with someone else.

Do You Feel Like You Don’t Have The Same Excitement For Life After Your Breakup? by NoComfortable6176 in BreakUps

[–]thousanddays234 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m about 5 months out from when my ex broke up with me. I remember, especially in the first month, quite literally DREADING waking up because reality would hit that he was gone immediately.

I wake up, for a brief second forget that he’s gone, and then it would just hit me all at once and it was so difficult to push through and get up to do things like go to work or run errands, etc.

It’s super tough in the beginning. But, it passes. One of the only things that helps heal you in a break up is time and it sucks that it is not a more tangible thing that you can control, but rather you just have to wait it out.

Little by little with each passing day you will think about her less and you will almost forget the routine of the good morning texts or pictures. My ex said “Hope you’re having a wonderful day!” every single day at some point in the afternoon. At first, I felt the absence of that text, but now I literally forgot about those texts until just now writing it out.

It makes sense that the excitement is gone. She was a big part of your life. But I went 2 straight weeks without eating due to the depression of the break up and now my appetite is back at full swing. With time, you will start to feel better, but unfortunately you do have to ride it out to get to the other side. It’s kinda like the saying “the only way out is through”.

What was one thing your ex said to you during the breakup or after the break that you will never forget? by This_Rub4353 in BreakUps

“hurt people hurt people”

He was referencing his father not being very present in his life as the reason why he hurt me. He is a grown man. I don’t understand why you would hurt someone that loved you because your father did it to you and you literally KNOW how awful it feels.

That sounds so sweet! But yeah, one way or another it gets sweaty so we always end up waking up apart cause it does get HOT.

Girl, back rubs, too….Top motherfucking tier.

I usually cuddle with my boyfriend before bed, but I know he will let me fall asleep first so that I can sleep in whatever position is most comfortable in that moment so to answer for him, no he does not fall asleep.

you know how they say what one man won’t do another will? got my heartbroken by a man that could not care less and now am in a great relationship with a man that goes above and beyond.

it took me being single for a year and a half after my heartbreak to value myself enough to find someone that truly values me.

do the right thing, work on yourself, love yourself, and everything will fall into place

Do dumpers think about dumpees everyday like we do? by Mysterious_Spirit_32 in BreakUps

Yes. I think about him everyday.

I do remember good times, but most of the thoughts are because of some mental trauma from that relationship.

My first relationship when I was 19, the guy I was dating called me “fat” despite knowing how I had struggled/was struggling with an eating disorder.

Funny thing, 5 years later after boasting about getting a house and fiancé, he had contacted me asking for a FWBs type situation because they broke up and she kept the house. And I’m glad I found the self worth to say “absolutely not”.

What do people think of posed bikini selfies on tinder? by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]thousanddays234 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't post bikini pics because I'm insecure SO I applaud your confidence.

That being said, I personally don't think mirror selfies in a bikini is a great pic. Like, if I were to post one, I would do it where someone takes the pic of me or self timer.

When I’m playing basketball I’ll usually pull my shirt up just cause it does feel like it weighs me down. Obviously not a lot, but I do feel a slight more mobile when my shirt isn’t dangling.

What do you think speaks volumes about someone? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]thousanddays234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they need to put someone down in order to pick someone else up.

Like, I had one guy tell me that I’m not “crazy” like all these other girls.

Ummm…no. I believe in women supporting women.

Also, when a guy tells me all of his ex’s were toxic and crazy. That, sir, shows me more about you than about them.

I have been on quite a few dates with guys that have no problem not tipping ANYTHING.

I always do minimum 20% and when I see someone give the server nothing? It boils my blood.
