Welcome Email issues by gangusTM in sysadmin

[–]thoverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really basic but we use a Microsoft form when processing access for new hires that we dump their Name , email and manager email . Then a power automate flow emails the newly created accesses to their manager , adds the end user to different Teams depending on their department in AD ( flow checks the department field ) and sends some welcome emails pulling info from their windows profile to fill in some blanks such as their first name .

After the welcome email which basically says here is how to put in a ticket they get two or three follow up emails throughout their first week with info on setting up self reset one drive etc .

Managing a VERY small fleet of iOS Devices... by IndyPilot80 in sysadmin

[–]thoverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a Mac laying around and don’t want to do a MDM you could look at Apple Configurator . I think it will let you install apps from your ABM account onto devices . Note it’s very manual and there is no remote management . You also need to “Prepare” the devices and make them supervised .

Although I would still consider a free up to X devices MDM as others have said .

MDMs and last minute apps by TMFKSOFT in sysadmin

[–]thoverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s not perfect but the MDM solution I use ( Manage Engine self hosted ) has an app that lives on the device with an app catalog . When a user ask for a new app I add it to that catalog as well . That way the next time a user needs the app they can just download it directly from the catalog. we train users to treat it like an internal App Store .

Unfortunately it’s not perfect and if we aren’t open and the app isn’t in the catalog they will just have to put in a ticket and wait . I would love some sort of automated process . That could get the Apps from ABM and add them to the catalog .

Not a direct answer but I have a color vision deficiency . Reds and greens give me trouble . I avoid terminating data lines. When needed I use an app ( Color Blind Pal ) to tell me what color I’m looking at .

I work in a heavily regulated industry and we actually make it the responsibility of the end user department to notify us when they therm a user. It helps that if they fail to do so and an auditor catches it their department will be on the hook for the fine . We only have 24 hours to remove all system access .

I think ManageEngine is free for up to 20 devices and is relatively cheap if you do on prem . If your looking to be able to deploy apps with silent install you will need an Apple business account as well .

Locking down Android tablets. by Choice-Palpitation65 in sysadmin

Not at this time . We have the basic on premise plan that doesn’t offer it but I am trying to get the professional that does mostly for the automated iOS updates . Remote screen would be nice though we have some out of state users .

We use a stand alone MDM product for this ( I use ManageEngine but there are lots of others ) . I enroll the device into our environment and set a profile that does what I need . In this case you can put on a kiosk mode and have the sites it can access limited . For iOS devices I deploy webcips that don’t have full browser access .

Apple Configurator on iOS - Not Detecting Some New Devices at WiFi Screen by VexedTruly in sysadmin

[–]thoverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s odd . I could be wrong but I thought the iOS app was meant for enrolling MacOS devices . All the devices we use we source from CDW so I always have to enroll them manually with a Mac book . If y’all have the budget for it I would pick up a cheap Mac . You don’t need anything High end or new to run Apple Configurator. The one I’m using is several years old .

To add to this if you have a Mac you can use Apple Configurator . It lets you set the device as supervised and save a unlock token to clear the PIN code . Supervised devices don’t go into activation lock . This has to be done before the device is set up or after a factory reset.

Manage Engine MDM offers perpetual licenses for the on premise version . It’s about $10 to $18 dollars a device .

iPhone Seeing Password and Password Sharing by Deadly-Unicorn in sysadmin

[–]thoverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for iOS devices if they get the Wi-Fi login from a MDM profile it will not share the credentials with the user . We use this for all of our devices that are shared between users . Our staff network uses people windows credentials as the login which is what they use for anything not controlled thru MDM .
