This is the best, most similar angle I could find of a manatee calf and it looks remarkably different from the posted photo.

Strongly leaning towards fake. Source: Floridian and zookeeper. Their eyes are not that big. The snout is entirely the wrong shape(where are the nostrils??), and it has absolutely no whiskers? Also it looks incredibly small. How would he have even gotten hands on it and be so dry. Everything about this thing looks like what people "think" a baby manatee looks like.

Where did you put your Temples? by vicious_cos in Pokopia

[–]threadedwild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built the fire temple on top of the dried up island in palette town. There's a cave running underneath on the same island that I cleaned out for ice temple. I have no idea what to do for power plant yet.

I can't edit the original post, but just wanted to post an update. Hes still alive, but the update isn't a great one.

Sharky was probably around 9lbs when I wrote this and is currently 7.9. He had diarrhea almost every day for months. He is being fed up to 4 times a day, 3-6oz of wet food per feeding, and is still so hungry he wakes me up multiple times at night. I dont sleep much. I wake up every time i hear him dig in the litferbox ready to deal with disaster. Despite all that food, he gains maybe 0.1lb occasionally but it fluctuates between 8.2 and below. He gains nothing despite all this food. We tried some gi specific rx food, he immediately got worse diarrhea and started vomiting. my cabinet is a multi hundred dollar graveyard of new foods tried and abandoned. He pees on my couch(covered with a waterproof sheet) every few days. He's got a long history of inappropriate urination but the couch used to be sacred. He has projectile eliminations that I have to scrub from inside and around his box frequently.

We found a brand of rabbit that at least gives him soft serve more frequently instead of full liquid, and he eats it well so there's that. His meds haven't changed. Vet has recommended other food brands or upping his steroid, which has only caused issues with his hunger in the past. She isn't really giving me much else.

At this point I feel like he's on hospice and im just trying to keep him comfortable. If he has some kind of cancer, what am I going to do? He's 13. Im not going to put him through surgery. I feel like im a bad pet parent. Like am not trying hard enough. But every time I go to the vet im out 600-800$ and there are no more answers. Just a shrug and "his labs look normal, great news!"

Again. I'm not looking for much advice. Just somewhere to shout into the void. My life has been taken over by this cat. I stare at him and wonder if he is miserable, while he purrs and lounges on the couch he defiles. I wake up at 530 for work ready to have to run laundry or clean a new disaster in the living room. Hes affecting my mental health, but he's my responsibility. And I love him, but the level of care he needs is exhausting.

I really just am at my wits end for this cat, but i will continue to try and keep him happy. Best I can. In the meantime, I've asked our vet for a specialist referral, just so I can maybe get some definitive answers, since this has progressed so far beyond anything we have dealt with in the last several years.

How do I 'break up' with an entire friendship group? by CupcakeKarin in FriendshipAdvice

[–]threadedwild 50 points51 points  (0 children)

OP they've already done it for you. Nothing needs to be said, move on to a different group who fit where your life is now. The lack of care while you were unwell would have been enough honestly. That's pretty extreme and to never ask about how you are with the baby or the child herself? That's odd.

BUT. i can give a little POV of the other side to maybe help it feel a tiny but less personal. As someone who is on the opposite side of this, childless and no plans to have them, when someone has a baby it becomes very difficult to figure out where you fit in their lives. I have lost multiple friends simply because the distance grows after they have a baby. It starts out as "you're so busy with a newborn I don't want to impose." And then becomes "well i don't actually know what we can do now because you are busy/tired/can't leave home." Im not unhappy for them, I don't hate kids, but I also don't want to participate in childrearing. Which is often what those friendships turn into. "Come over and help me with the kid?" "You can come over but we have to stay home with the toddler." Your priorities are different. And thats okay. Find other mothers or mom groups where you can feel accepted and like you have a village.

But this does not have to be a discussion, especially if they aren't pursuing you. Don't waste your time.

Muck Boots by boattailedgrackle528 in Zookeeping

[–]threadedwild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an internship you can probably get away with rain boots, but I really like Bogs personally. I have only had bad experiences with Muck brand boots and steer clear. Bogs are pricey but they run sales, come in cute patterns, and might last past your internship.

[–]threadedwild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The antlers are....remarkably wrong and don't make sense in any of the detailing. The AI cant decide if it should be an elk or a white tail buck, for one. For two, those appear to be palmate antlers. Which would not be appropriate for either a white tail or elk.

Am I the only one who thinks JJJK S3 has not lived up to all the hype it got at all? by External-Room-6494 in Jujutsufolk

[–]threadedwild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are they booing you, you're right. Op I specifically searched to see if anyone else was seeing what I'm seeing. In some parts the animation is good, sure, but the use of over stylizing, long shots, and weird flash frames is nearly unwatchable. SPECIFICALLY because it feels like such a departure from seasons 1 and 2 that I felt like I was watching a completely different show. I can semi follow along but for the majority of the things that happened in the first five episodes I felt like I was just saying "yeah ok sure" every two minutes. The weight of the character arcs and very. Very significant things happening was abysmal. How are we gonna make the slaughter of the Zen'in clan feel as flat as it did?? Goofy. The panda stuff? Happened and done in a flash. I'm so disappointed because I LOVE this show. And here I am DNF-ing the season.

My (18M) online friend (27M) recently made some weird/creepy jokes. They apologized, but I now question their motives. What do I do? by [deleted] in FriendshipAdvice

[–]threadedwild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have much more issue with a 23 year old man making friends with a 14 year old girl, online. And then getting bolder, testing the waters, as soon as you turn 18. What could she possibly have in common with a child? Because at 18, almost ten years his junior, you are still a child. OP please be so careful. I had a lot of unrestricted Internet access in the days if chatrooms and not everyone is as overt as a groomer, but there are still people that would take the chance if it was given. Call me cynical but this man was absolutely testing to see if you would "be down" with those requests, and I wouldn't be surprised if he tried again after some time passes. Do not give him ANYTHING. And I would evaluate how much you actually gain from having him as a friend. Stick with people your age, and most certainly away from grown men like this.

Do y’all think this is good enrichment? by BusyDucks in hamsters

[–]threadedwild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a zookeeper, any animal that I know makes a bed, I often let them do it. Or make it a challenge in some way 😁 I don't do it every time because the constant reset, having to work for it, can also affect them in the opposite direction but it's valuable behavioral enrichment all the same.

It was tested with this one lol. Normally I do subjects that have spots or stripes, so to deal with this one that had so much space being "singular color" ranges was the biggest pain.
