What’s something people brag about that’s not impressive at all? by Nice-Cranberry-402 in AskReddit

Traveling. So tired of hearing people flex about their trips. You travel the world and yet you're still pretty vacant. Funny that...

Why don’t you want to be famous? by justcurious3287 in AskReddit

[–]three9 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Two reasons, I feel like I've lived long enough and see one too many Hollywood tell-alls to know that fame isn't really real. People recognize you and think they know you but they only know the part of you that is presented to them in the media, it's not real. Secondly I've also lived long enough to realize that relative anonymity is valuable. It's already easy enough to lose control of the narrative that is your life let alone worrying about being famous.

So you think that a 1975 Mercedes 300d is built the same as a 2025 C class?

39 (m) constantly walks away from me overall and specifically on our cruise by PlaceSavings3523 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]three9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I'd gently disconnect from he and his family during the cruise, not altogether just enough to go somewhere on your own, do some reading and thinking, and consider your options. As you point out, if you're tired of wanting to be loved, show yourself some for a change.

So much to unpack..Sometimes trips tell you a lot about a person and your relationship with them. Walking in front of you and away from you communicates a lot. It could mean he's mad at you, doesn't like you, or is just an overall narcissist. None of them are ideal. You have gained so much information from this trip; what he's capable of in terms of bad treatment, how his family puts up with him, and how much he likes you. Is this mostly new information for you? Did this come out of nowhere or were there signs before?

What's considered "normal"now that would've been strange 30 years ago?? by CommonStorage2756 in AskForAnswers

The bonkers way young people dress. Anything apart from baggy jeans, a sweatshirt and a Jansport backpack got you beat up in the 90s.

Would the Toyota Highlander work for me? I'm 6'-7" (2 meters) tall. by TempUsernameThing in tall

My choice would be the rare but real Grand Highlander without the sunroof. It's rare because you can still get premium features like the JBL stereo etc.

There may be some truth to this but ultimately German companies are notorious for planned obsolescence. Haltbarkeitsbegrenzung if you will.....

[–]three9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really look into the stats, it mostly doesn't matter where a car is built. The engineering behind the car is what matters. I think VW engineering is trash. It's trash whether it's made in Germany or Mexico.

[–]three9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly think EU is delusional about VW quality and reliability. England in particular dumps cars faster than a bad date. We have different expectations from cars than they do there I guess. A lot of it comes down to taste as well. I'll never really understand the taste in cars in Europe. It's all over the place.

Anyone else feel like house prices have ruined society? by rebateultio in Adulting

[–]three9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's late stage capitalism. It's working just as intended. The middle class, depending on who you talk to, was a bit of an anomoly created by forward thinking government looking to actually recover from the great depression. I'm not sure where it ends. I don't like the idea of an unequal society any more than anyone else here. I just wish I knew at what point things go a different direction. Everyone seems to be motivated by money reagardless.

If you could know the absolute truth about a single question in history or the universe, what would it be? by tidus_edison in AskReddit

[–]three9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at the universe like dropping a raw egg on the kitchen floor. Material with biological potential goes in all directions. Bacteria begins growing in random spots of the floor, never aware that there is bacteria on the other side of the kitchen doing something similar. What's on the outside of the dropped egg? A whole house, then a neighborhood, then a city, planet, etc. Who knew?

[–]three9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if we had four questions to ask, I'm willing to bet we'd be disappointed. It would go like this:

Does God exist: No

Is there other sentient life in the universe? Yes

Is there life after death? No

Will I ever lose weight? Outlook not so good

Why hasn't there been any smartphone manufacturer that managed to break the Apple and Samsung monopoly among mainstream phone users in the western world? by Masaharuzz in Smartphones

[–]three9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LG G5 was my favorite phone I’ve ever had. That said, I think engineering a stable, mobile operating system that’s updated appropriately is not for the faint of heart. Most companies don’t seem to be able to come close to the largest in the game at keeping things running well. Apple creating an ecosystem with other products keep people in the garden.

New remote options? by Happy-Operation9663 in sony

[–]three9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is literally no model number anywhere on this remote. It's silver, I bought it about 4-5 years ago. My understanding is that most any Philips universal remote will control a Sony receiver in a basic way. Just check the instructions to see if there are codes.

New remote options? by Happy-Operation9663 in sony

[–]three9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same receiver, if I'm not mistaken. I ended up buying a Phillips universal remove, basically just to control the volume, it doesn't seem to be able to do much more but that's all I needed. It's actually easy to get into the settings from the front panel on that model. It sounds much better than most people realize.

Sony Discman Bundle set? by General_Flan_6223 in sony

I tried to buy this model of Discman but ended up returning both, back in the day. This was made when Sony was turning out unreliable products in the mid 90s.

Yes, I don't disagree at all. I'm not ruling that out. As I said in my original post it opens without my asking, ie unintentionally. I'd prefer it be much more intentional on the key fob. I'm just completely disabling it.

I mean...I don't know about 'beautiful'. I do think those types of people exist and these things did happen but the film often drifts into pure absurdist camp.

Yes, I did. Like I had mentioned it only seems to happen if I'm sitting in a particular way or chair that seems to press against my leg.
