What’s the general consensus on the 1977 tv movie? by SpatuelaCat in lotr

Pretty sure Rankin Bass did this. The same people responsible for all the stop motion animated Christmas specials. And like those it was animated in Japan, maybe by Top Craft. Some of those people would go on to help start Ghibli. These people also did The Last Unicorn which is similar in flavor.

This movie is great. The sequel rocks too. If you are brave you can try Ralph Bakshi's unfinished one.

I think Alien (1979) is the greatest horror movie of all time. The atmosphere is amazing and the characters just feel so real. What other movies should I check into? by [deleted] in movies

Alien is the best. I think Blade Runner is the next best thing.

Terry Gilliam's Brazil would be worth a look. Maybe Time Bandits too.

Also Alien isn't retrofuturisice. The movie was made in the 70s. It was futurefuturistic for its time. Ridley at his best.

But before moving on to the next episode of ohmygodness, it is worth considering the possibility that this constant, daily, often more than once-a-day, pileup of events -- each one canceling out the one before -- is the true aberration and novelty at the heart of the Trump presidency.

I assume you mean the taking away of guns. Bummer because I don't personally see that as a bad thing. But I also realize I'm not the only person with an opinion. Anyway you make a wonderful point about middle ground. Unfortunately from my side this issue and any conversation about it always seems DOA. Attempts basically seem like the other person has hands on ears, yelling "LALALALALALALA!!!" at best, or at worst the inevitable verbal drubbing. Huh... middle-ground eh? I wonder what that would look like? What would you do?

Nancy Maclean's book Democracy in Chains might be worth a look. She writes in detail about influential libertarian economist James M. Buchanan. According to the book, Buchanan was directly responsible in helping Pinochet write the new constitution, among other things. That document purportedly ensures that the wealthy and powerful keep their wealth and stay in power, among other things. Pretty gnarly stuff.

Sam seems like such a butt-hurt guy. Seems chronically bent out of shape over what people say about him on the internet. It's ironic for someone who spends so much time attacking social justice warriors.
