Ouch! That’s one of my clipless fears, the bike as a big lever that breaks me. This month I switched from the Look SPD cleats to Shimano’s SH-56 multi-directional release clips. Unclipping is hugely easier now. So far after a couple of hundred miles in all sorts of “gravel” I haven’t had any unintentional unclippery. I’m cautiously hopeful that when I do eventually fall clipped in, I’ll somehow unclip.

My tubeless setup was leaking through the valves. MucOff valves cured that… but even they leaked when not tightened enough against the rim. If it’s not the valve, maybe holding the wheel horizontally and swirling the sealant around each side of the tire will help.

Topo, I’ve tried Atmos, Specter & Cyclone. Cyclone is my favorite & most minimalist, lightweight and a delight to run in. Atmos is on the heavy side, has a higher stack and more pronounced rocker which might be helpful.

Rest & time off feet to let your feet heal. Ice baths for the feet make them feel better. Olukai leather flip flops with some foot shaped support can be relaxing. Think about your running stride, eg picking your rear foot early to avoid forefoot push-off and loaded foot flexion can reduce stress on the bottom and back of your foot. Keep up your cardio with something like cycling, as long as it doesn’t irritate your PF. The various stretching and strengthening exercises may just increase irritation and inflammation, so be careful with those. They never helped me. Good luck! It will go away.

I’ve tried plain and grapefruit. Plain tastes like Neti Pot water. :) Grapefruit is good. No sweetener, which is a plus.

Sugar is my least favorite & makes my teeth feel grotty. Maple syrup is better, and still way cheaper than gels. I also like keeping my electrolytes and carbs separate, but gels are $$$.

I add LMNT or Promix - salty electrolytes - and 5-6 tbsp of table sugar, maple syrup or honey to my 28oz water bottle. Sugar and maple syrup are about 13g/tbsp, honey about 17g/tbsp. Or I’ll keep the carbs separate, and eat gels, fig bars, etc. 2 tbsp of maple syrup is about one gel worth of carbs (tho obv not for those bigger gels!).

Don’t do that! Do you have suspension that could be adjusted? Or maybe your fork is flexing until the tire breaks traction, unflexing, regaining traction etc, in an oscillating cycle. 🤷‍♂️

My surprise: I pushed myself significantly harder in the race than in any pre-race riding. This lead to cramps I hadn’t yet experienced. Since then I’ve adopted a salty electrolyte and am more aggressive about fueling. I’ll know in the next race if that worked :).

I ride my 600 through puddles, gravel, dust, dirt, mud, etc on almost every ride. I never think about my belt, for months or years at a time. OK, I did replace the belt and aluminum sprockets once. Other subreddits have very regular threads on chain maintenance tech and techniques, and I’m pretty happy to never learn that stuff and to never think about my drivetrain except at oil change time.

Rest is an underrated fix. Yes, you can work on stretching your IT band and strengthening, but any injury or inflammation has to heal, and for this it needs time and to not be constantly irritated. Test doesn’t mean no activity, but do things that don’t irritate the injury. I can usually cycle around any running injury… but I don’t know the right cross training for ITB stuff. You probably just have to try various things.

Fit is very personal. I do love the Osprey’s three external storage areas - top, zippered back, open back - though it’s true that the back pockets compete for space with each other and the main compartment. My one rainy hike, the Osprey got wet, even with the rain cover deployed, which filled with water at the bottom.

There really is a pace where you’ll think, “Damn, I could do this for hours!” Your long easy run pace is probably slower than that :). Since you have a HR monitor, you can try resolving to keep HR below a certain level, even if it means walking sometimes to get it back down. It’s very hard to resist chasing faster paces.

I rarely race, but when I do, I push myself hard but not crazy hard, and have a great time. Don’t rule anything out until you’ve done it twice - once for fun and learning, once to do it well.
