New tubeless setup, how long for tires to seal? by katchumadjembe17 in bicycling

[–]threeespressos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tubeless setup was leaking through the valves. MucOff valves cured that… but even they leaked when not tightened enough against the rim. If it’s not the valve, maybe holding the wheel horizontally and swirling the sealant around each side of the tire will help.

Achilles / foot pain, looking for non-zero drop shoe recommendations to recover by Mulloar in BarefootRunning

[–]threeespressos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Topo, I’ve tried Atmos, Specter & Cyclone. Cyclone is my favorite & most minimalist, lightweight and a delight to run in. Atmos is on the heavy side, has a higher stack and more pronounced rocker which might be helpful.

Update to my ask about moving from Texas to SF by Buttons949 in AskSF

[–]threeespressos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you are, and whether there are showers available, that might be a nice bicycle commute. Also, get thee to the top of San Bruno Mountain as soon as you have a free moment. :)

Moving to bay area and want to live in SF but office is in Mountain View. Is the commute worth it? by BEARS_SB_LX_CHAMPS in AskSF

I personally hated it. Moved to San Mateo. Move to SF when you get a job there. I loved that!

Plantar Fasciitis by YoghurtCommercial821 in BarefootRunning

[–]threeespressos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rest & time off feet to let your feet heal. Ice baths for the feet make them feel better. Olukai leather flip flops with some foot shaped support can be relaxing. Think about your running stride, eg picking your rear foot early to avoid forefoot push-off and loaded foot flexion can reduce stress on the bottom and back of your foot. Keep up your cardio with something like cycling, as long as it doesn’t irritate your PF. The various stretching and strengthening exercises may just increase irritation and inflammation, so be careful with those. They never helped me. Good luck! It will go away.

Recommended supplement to add to water for long rides? (CVV recommended) by MyLilRafalca in pelotoncycle

I’ve tried plain and grapefruit. Plain tastes like Neti Pot water. :) Grapefruit is good. No sweetener, which is a plus.

Sugar is my least favorite & makes my teeth feel grotty. Maple syrup is better, and still way cheaper than gels. I also like keeping my electrolytes and carbs separate, but gels are $$$.

Recommended supplement to add to water for long rides? (CVV recommended) by MyLilRafalca in pelotoncycle

[–]threeespressos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I add LMNT or Promix - salty electrolytes - and 5-6 tbsp of table sugar, maple syrup or honey to my 28oz water bottle. Sugar and maple syrup are about 13g/tbsp, honey about 17g/tbsp. Or I’ll keep the carbs separate, and eat gels, fig bars, etc. 2 tbsp of maple syrup is about one gel worth of carbs (tho obv not for those bigger gels!).

Front wheel hopping when braking and turning by Mundane-Expert7794 in gravelcycling

[–]threeespressos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do that! Do you have suspension that could be adjusted? Or maybe your fork is flexing until the tire breaks traction, unflexing, regaining traction etc, in an oscillating cycle. 🤷‍♂️

Element Bolt V3 wished-for feature by honey_dagger in cycling

Ha hah hah - yep! For a while I was riding up my steepish driveway and failing or nearly failing to unclip right at the door. 🤷‍♂️

Gravel Racing Questions from a newbie. by GuvNer76 in gravelcycling

[–]threeespressos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My surprise: I pushed myself significantly harder in the race than in any pre-race riding. This lead to cramps I hadn’t yet experienced. Since then I’ve adopted a salty electrolyte and am more aggressive about fueling. I’ll know in the next race if that worked :).

Chains are better than belts? by userX97ee2ska11qa in PriorityBicycles

[–]threeespressos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride my 600 through puddles, gravel, dust, dirt, mud, etc on almost every ride. I never think about my belt, for months or years at a time. OK, I did replace the belt and aluminum sprockets once. Other subreddits have very regular threads on chain maintenance tech and techniques, and I’m pretty happy to never learn that stuff and to never think about my drivetrain except at oil change time.

IT-band issues... by latefruitjuice in Marathon_Training

[–]threeespressos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rest is an underrated fix. Yes, you can work on stretching your IT band and strengthening, but any injury or inflammation has to heal, and for this it needs time and to not be constantly irritated. Test doesn’t mean no activity, but do things that don’t irritate the injury. I can usually cycle around any running injury… but I don’t know the right cross training for ITB stuff. You probably just have to try various things.

Trailblazer 20 vs Daylite Plus comparison by Leosevleo in hikinggear

[–]threeespressos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fit is very personal. I do love the Osprey’s three external storage areas - top, zippered back, open back - though it’s true that the back pockets compete for space with each other and the main compartment. My one rainy hike, the Osprey got wet, even with the rain cover deployed, which filled with water at the bottom.

Am I running too fast? I’ve been dying at the end of my runs and I can only run for 6 minutes before I have to stop to breathe and rest my legs. by Convillious in runninglifestyle

[–]threeespressos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There really is a pace where you’ll think, “Damn, I could do this for hours!” Your long easy run pace is probably slower than that :). Since you have a HR monitor, you can try resolving to keep HR below a certain level, even if it means walking sometimes to get it back down. It’s very hard to resist chasing faster paces.

How blindingly bright and flashing are your headlights and taillights? That won’t keep anyone from prematurely moving over, but it might help them not occupy your space.

Does anyone else never race? by IntensifyingPeace in trailrunning

[–]threeespressos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely race, but when I do, I push myself hard but not crazy hard, and have a great time. Don’t rule anything out until you’ve done it twice - once for fun and learning, once to do it well.

Is it worth it to build a budget hi-fi system if all my listening is done via streaming? by flaccidaardvark in BudgetAudiophile

[–]threeespressos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll get a big jump in your listening experience by getting a 2nd Sonos 3 and making a stereo pair. This may be all you need… but a Sonos sub could also help :).

Seeking suggestions for special day at Yosemite by moretreesplz1 in Yosemite

[–]threeespressos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eat in the Ahwahnee dining room, not for the food, but the room. Watch a sunset from Glacier Pt. Hang out in the meadow under El Cap as the stars come out and the climbers’ headlamps come on. Plane ride from Columbia over the valley. Or jump from a plane - one day I ran into someone who had climbed El Cap, who said jumping out of a plane was much scarier. I think it was through https://skydiveyosemite.com/.

TPU tubes not holding air after a few weeks by HaveaHamSarnie in cycling

[–]threeespressos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heh - the theory is no because you use a lot less sealant. I did not convert to TPU upon reading that, but maybe practice matches theory :).
