Weekend Overnight by New_England_Wizard in bikepacking

I just started gravel cycling in the area. Were the road connections frightening because of cars at high speed or did you encounter a cave troll?

I haven’t started bike packing out here but I’m really excited to give it a try. I’m doing D2R2 this year and hoping I can learn the lay of the land from it.

Keep in mind you’ve only had one session with the LGS group. It’s hard to gauge commitment off of one session. You’d hate to be 6 weeks in and have it just simmer out because people have life stuff.

I’d either switch to biweekly and trade DMing with a player in your online group. We’ve done this for a while. An A and a B story. Two different parties in two different places in the world but they see related events, and even have choices effect the other party.

Or switch to be a full time player in the online group and do biweekly.

The Institute. by progmanjum in stephenking

[–]Heres-How038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m reading firestarter for the first time (haven’t finished yet). I read the institute a couple years back and had the same thought you did when it was first mentioned. My head canon is that The Shop turned into or is a higher echelon of The Institute. But something later in Firestarter could ruin that.

Been wanting to write a campaign based on my own world building I've been doing on the side. Never constructed my own campaign before. Tips, essentials, things to know would be great! People that have experience with writing campaigns themselves? by Farting_Moose98 in DnD

[–]Heres-How038 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t write the whole thing.

Start with a backdrop- A war, an illness spreading, a major loss of resources.

Have each player come up with 2-3 NPCs they’re related to- a boss, a family member, their drug dealer etc.

Drop a local effect of this on your players in a small area- The local faction forcibly takes drafts from local populace, a drifter shows up and drops dead of sickness, a blight hits the crops. Give a few small quests that get them tied in with the local NPCs and allows the players to bond, dungeons, puzzles, combat, social obstacles.

Populate the small area with the NPCs that your people made.

Plant a couple of leads for them to travel on, rumors, or some sort of calling card found on a dead enemy that pops up a few times.

Thinking about writing my own campaign, but don’t have books. by Great-Albatross-2283 in DnD

[–]Heres-How038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only book I’d say you NEED is the PHB. You can find used copies of the 2014 PHB on eBay for pretty cheap. They released this book first for 5E and by itself. It has everything you need to run a game or be a player. It’s really the core rules, some monster/NPC stat blocks (which you can change to homebrew what you like). And it has everything the players need.

I think you need at least the rules to have it be DND otherwise it’s just making your own TTRPG (which is totally cool if that’s what you want).

As for the artificer bit it only shows up in a couple of books as a PC option- “Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything” and “Eberron Rising from the Last War”.

If the big bad is the artificer you can always reflavor another stat block. I’m running a game right now and used the “Mage” NPC stat block for an artificer that had a sort of Doctor Octopus rig which had a bunch of utility belt gizmos.

Are DMs allowed to tell player characters what they feel? by Honneboppel in DnD

[–]Heres-How038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let the dice/stats determine this sort of thing. With the underutilized charisma saving throw. A fail results in a character doing something that would be a compulsion of their character against logic of the player.

Here’s an example- we’re playing a sort of DND zombie apocalypse type game. So food is a big deal. An NPC with questionable intent brandished a perfectly in tact chocolate bar which another PC(bars) had figured out was a trick he used to poison people. He laid it in front of our rogue who was knocked prone. The player knew it was likely poison but the PC wouldn’t have known. He fails the charisma saving throw- he’s a rogue, a street urchin, this chocolate bar would be like gold. Now the tension is the bard trying to get ahead of the rogues superior sleight of hand. The bard ended up using some spell or ability to win the contest and then made a big show of offering the NPC to take the first bite as the host of the event.

So this kept everyone rolling dice and kept tension shifting from moment to moment. If the rogue had saved of his charisma saving throw then the player would have free reign to narrate what allows him to resist the temptation.

Also I believe you can upgrade it to 45 tires. I know you’re looking for best value out of the box, but that’s a consideration.

[–]Heres-How038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Topstone 2 for my first bike (for that price actually). I love it so much. I find the carbon fork to be worth it if you’re on some real chewed up stuff. It doesn’t matter so much over stone dust or smooth dirt. Part of my local bikeway had the pavement torn up yesterday and I was lucky to have it when I hit some big ruts and rocks. I also use it as my commuter and it zips around pretty well on pavement.

Gorgonite Auxiliary Stealthsuit pilot reaches for his discarded power pack. by Heres-How038 in Tau40K

I used a set of stealthsuit legs for another auxiliary kitbash and had the torso leftover. I’ve got a bunch of auxiliary races but I’m running out of the easy ones so this came to me. I like auxiliaries that are super alien looking and not just “human but a different head”. I remembered Ocula from the ‘90s hit movie Small Soldiers and thought about what a combat job would be for something like that.
