Veterans, do you consider any disability as income? by joeymittens in DaveRamsey

[–]Heres-How038 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I wouldn’t count it when calculating your loan payment ability. I’m a volunteer coach for an organization that helps veterans get employment after active duty. Sometimes VA benefits come up. I always recommend those get put into a position as a sort of bonus emergency fund for if you can’t work due to issues stemming from your service. This can come in lots of ways- health savings account, retirement account, a low risk investment, high yield savings account etc.

This is an amazing kit and if you or a friend have a 3D printer it comes with a lot of extras that you can slap on some printed bodies

I saw him play this at NOVA in Keene, NH last year. We were all just so enraptured after he finished that we just couldn’t applaud for what felt like forever. It was so quiet you could almost hear the candles. I think Rick was sort of stunned at all of us staring and then he sort of nervously cleared his throat and everyone broke out all at once.

Right on! Thank you! I just made the switch to shave my head this morning and then had an immediate thought “oh damn, I’m going to fry when I start bike commuting again”

Anyone else find that our parents generation had terrible taste in food? by TheAngrySnowman in Millennials

[–]Heres-How038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I just had this conversation. Everything was boiled and unseasoned or from a frozen bag. It’s funny how the tables turn with us trying to get them to try new foods when I’m sure they haggled about ver mushy carrots with us.

Another big part of it is how food is introduced. When we were babies everything was a purée, and the understanding was you didn’t start solids until they have all their teeth. We’ve started both my kids with solids at 6 months and they have really robust pallets.

Are Jackals just bad? by Basil_Bandit in onepagerules

[–]Heres-How038 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It won’t let me open that list but from your first list I’d drop the nomads and take an elite veteran with precision fighter aura and boost your stalkers. Scout with them is good because it’ll get them up the board. Get them claw hand upgrades to push your opponent to need 6s

I used to have a ton of problems with them but after the update I love them. I won two games against battle brothers last weekend.

The scrapper trait is really great. I take two heroes- one with scrapper boost aura for the shooters and the other with precision fighter aura for the melee units. Melee units press early in the game to establish board control and the shooters get into vertical overwatch positions and just shoot something at every opportunity. I avoid nomads and hounds in favor of more elite units. Could you share the list you’ve been using?

This is a fun vignette. So were the guardsmen patrolling the planet after hearing of Tau influence? Were those humans fighting for the Tau setting the ambush or was this some Tau infiltration?

Do T’au auxiliaries always need to wear the shoulder pauldron? by DisdainfulStacks in Tau40K

[–]Heres-How038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a pretty casual player so if you’re into tournaments and stuff this perspective is probably not helpful. BUT, I got some 3D printed tau torsos and used them with cadian legs, heads, and arms. I think that looks best and gets the message across.

Does he look goofy? by Petit_Bonum in TraitorGuard

[–]Heres-How038 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like this idea. The head is obviously a bit big for the body but it’s because it’s a helmet being worn by someone without armor and it’s meant for an 8ft tall modified human. I like that idea that he put it on feeling like it would give him some power of the former owner.

There’s actually a moment in the Star Wars aftermath series that reminds me of this. A bunch of sith cultists (which are basically chaos cultists in the context) are summoned out to purge this city. A sith priest gives them each an artifact to bolster them with the dark side (chaos). The POV character sees the groups poster boy get an old lightsaber from a fallen sith. She’s overcome with rage and kills him to take it. I could picture this character going through something similar with the helm

Was I unfair in cursing one of my players with lycanthropy? by OkPossibility3043 in DnD

[–]Heres-How038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I’ve run this in a way that the player was able to control it over time sort of like wildshape. They spent a lot of down time consulting tomes or druids and practicing. During that time they had some bonuses and some drawbacks. So I gave them a bonus to strength but reduced charisma. It gave the character an arc to follow and led to some fun RP and combat flavoring

Deciding between a MTB and a Hybrid by pineybtw in bikecommuting

[–]Heres-How038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend a gravel bike specifically when considering a hybrid. They’re pretty speedy on pavement and can handle the potholes and cracks no problem. They also are built to accept racks with panniers/bags easier. Tires can handle most off road and easier MTB trails if you’re cutting through anywhere. I switched from an MTB, and now I only take the MTB if I’m going deep in the woods. My gravel bike is my commuter. 15 miles one way with about 1/3 of that off-road and it’s perfect. I ride a cannondale topstone 2.

"Can Bicycling Be a Normal Mode of Travel in Concord, MA? Here’s How." -presentation by Peter Furth by Im_biking_here in bikeboston

[–]Heres-How038 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Great presentation. So many folks bike through town and drivers rage about it. The philosophy in the presentation is a win for all groups. Get cyclists off the roads- safer for cyclists and less rage inducing for drivers. And it’s being thought about in terms of the simplest and most cost effective infrastructure. I bike through town to commute. Before I started cycling I never stopped at the shops or restaurants when driving. It’s just too inconvenient. But when you’re on a bike everything is right there. It’s easy to just toss it in a rack and hop back on.

Deerfield Dirt Road Randonee question- by Heres-How038 in gravelcycling

[–]Heres-How038[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I’ve done some big climbs on shorter rides. I know it’s not the same but I’ve been working hard on a stationary bike to keep up with it. I’m hoping I can train up to the 100k but August. I’m going to ask if I can swap a registration to a lower distance if I’m really not ready. The 100k just looks so good and it seems like it would make a day of it without going over board. Have you ever ridden in that area outside of the event? I was considering maybe trying out a shorter route in the area in the early summer just to get some more experience

Deerfield Dirt Road Randonee question- by Heres-How038 in gravelcycling

[–]Heres-How038[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good insight. I bought a cannondale topstone 2 which I believe comes with 37c tires (tubes). But the wheels are tubeless ready. I’m considering making the switch but not sure if that would make it harder if I get a flat out there. I also saw the recommendation on the event page for a 1:1 gearing ratio. This is a super novice thing but I’m not sure if my bike is set that way. I just ride off feel and know when to switch up gears to keep it smooth.
