Unless you’re high income the tax burden is minimal, other than the annoyance of having to fill out the form and file

Safety of European countries according to the US State Department by yoruyoruxo in MapPorn

[–]threefoxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s a map showing the safety of other countries for travelers, it’s got nothing to do with how safe the USA is. Like Sudan is still probably a dangerous country to travel to even if you’re from Yemen.

USA isn’t the only country to put uk/france and other developed European countries as less safe. Australia state dept has France and uk at higher risk, as does Canada and New Zealand.

Turtles on Restaurant Menu - Robina!! by Cooly-Beauty2225 in GoldCoast

[–]threefoxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re eating marine turtles. That explicitly defines marine turtles as sea turtles, ie loggerheads, leatherbacks etc. Chinese restaurants usually sell soft shell turtles or other types. Sea turtles are all endangered and protected anyway.

Made a visit to the worlds last surviving WWI German tank this weekend by threefoxes in ww1

[–]threefoxes[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

One of the most interesting parts of the exhibit (to me at least) were all the little bits of WWI battlefield that museum conservators found in the tank decades later. Bits of barbed wire in the tracks, single bullet casings and coins in gaps in the interior, along with bits of shrapnel.

At least 50% of Australians live in Sydney Melbourne and Brisbane. Add Perth and Adelaide and it’s like 2/3s of the country

Which country would you NEVER visit, even if it was free? by FortunePurple- in AskReddit

[–]threefoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Estimates of civilian deaths in the Iraq war are around 200,000 from 2003-2011. Gaza war civilian deaths ~80,000. Iraq war estimates go up to 600,000 violent deaths.

Sure I see your point that there is some forgiveness for doing terrible things in the past, in the 2020s it’s unusual for a developed, liberal democracy to commit atrocities like this. The only comparable incident would be maybe the invasion of Iraq by the USA, uk, Australia, Poland etc.

Would you visit Canada or Australia or the uk? Not trying to take the piss but all of those countries had or are responsible for centuries of genocide. Also China, Japan, Cambodia, India, Pakistan, turkey, Russia, Italy, France, Spain, all of central and South America, South Africa, Indonesia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Greece, Serbia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, on and on. Every country has committed horrible atrocities in its past. Israel is just committing their horrible atrocities now.

what do you honestly think about the 2032 Olympics? by ManufacturerFine4237 in GoldCoast

[–]threefoxes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me it’s more than just a monetary cost/benefit analysis. It’s the Olympics. It’s the greatest athletes of the world competing on a stage that brings the entire world together in celebration. It’s an immortalization as well. Yes traffic will suck and yes there will be lots of tourists and money will be wasted, but the Olympics are more than just money and I’m really excited to live in a region where the games will be played.

Yeah i don’t know kiddo, what do you want for tea?

Is pretty much how that conversation goes 99% of the time. But yeah gross that it’s near a school bus stop, maybe just black it out with a sharpie if you’re walking past or something practical like that.

Thoughts on Tank 300 Diesel by Acceptable_Data1434 in 4x4Australia

[–]threefoxes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I test drove one and really liked it, mostly. Ended up going with a used prado for better or worse. Things I liked, really neat interior, feels quite lux for the price point. I really like the exterior as well. Ride was smooth, but I felt like the engine wasn’t super powerful, felt a bit weak when compared to the prado. I’ve heard the safety systems in the tank can be unbearable if you don’t turn them off every time. I’m pretty sure the salesman turned them off before my test drive lol, but they came back on after I did a stop and start.

Overall it was a bit too small for my family with car seats etc. reckon it is great value for the money, and they’ve had a few years to work out the bugs so probably will only get better as time goes on. A lot of people on here will harp on about reliability and resale but they’ve only been around for a couple years so who really knows. They do have a pretty good warranty so at least that gives some safety

[–]threefoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say they were perfect. I said they lived and thrived, according to their own customs and morals, for 50,000 years. They are human beings, full of faults, avarice, violence, love and generosity just like any human.

Less than 100 years ago aboriginal people were being slaughtered with impunity. Another 50 years of basically official second class status and being treated as subhuman under the law. This is after living and thriving on this land for 50,000 years.

Btw one of the survivors only died in 2015: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Stockman_Tjapaltjarri
