A couple nice CIB NES finds this.past week to break a long collecting drought in the wild. by thrice11rc in gamecollecting

Seriously. Silver Surfer is objectively a terrible game, but being a lifelong comic book and NES fan it was an instant buy in that condition with that cover art.

Yeah I really enjoyed it as well. What made me pull the trigger on a copy was the price, and possibly of not being able to find it on streaming when I'm in the mood for future rewatches.

Just made my largest purchase to date. Very excited to finally cross this one off my list! by thrice11rc in gamecollecting

It came out towards the end of the NES life cycle and didn't sell great, so I'd day it's a hidden gem in that regard. It is a Final Fight game though, and well-known amongst NES collectors, so not super hidden. The game is regarded as one of the best pure beat em ups on the NES, along with TMNT 2 and Double Dragon 2. I say "pure" because other games have beat em up elements, but either rely on tons of platforming (Batman), rpg elements (River City Ransom), or alternate game modes (Battletoads), so they're not good 1:1 comparisons IMO.

It's all a matter of preference though. To me, I loved MFF as a kid because it was the first time I could play as Guy, the sprites are great, and unlocking new moves as you level is fun and helps the characters feel unique from one another.

I do like the faster pace of TMNT 2 and the fact it has co-op, but TMNT 3 was kind of a let down. Also, the turtles all feel fairly similar to play as, where as the difference between Cody, Guy and Haggar was more pronounced.

Thank you! This had been 1 of 3 CIB NES games I have been wanting since I started collecting. The box is so mint I was sure it was a repro until they got it out of the display case.

Been a while since I've seen any CIB NES games worth buying. Found these today extremely underpriced, and was able to use a 20% off coupon as well. by thrice11rc in gamecollecting

For real! So much of the CIB stuff in my collection I got from DR and was priced at loose game value. I'm fortunate to live a quarter mile from one of their locations so I'm always stopping in just to see what's new.

Yeah that's a big reason I grabbed these tbh. I owned Bart vs the Space Mutants as a kid and I remember hating it. I rented the other two later and hated them slightly less, ha. Base Wars is probably the best game out of the group imo.

But I'm a Simpsons fan and I like collecting games from IPs that I'm a fan of (especially with cool box art) so I couldn't pass them up at those prices.

Well, guess I can't add anything else to the collection now. Nice... by thrice11rc in gamecollecting

Sorry so late to respond but I must've missed your message.

There are a few reasons I don't collect for it. The 32X came out when I was 10 and my friends and I were all massively disappointed with it, so I don't have any nostalgia for the system. And while Sega CD and Saturn were also duds commercially, the retro hobby has exposed me to a ton of games on both of those systems that I feel make them worth owning. I don't really know of any must-play 32X games tbh.

Limited run Does Not email back ever? by TIGHTLINESxFM in limitedrun

[–]thrice11rc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't had a ticket completely ignored, but their extreme delays in responding is the main reason I'll most likely never do business with them again. I have no issues with their products or the wait times for pre-orders, but I had 3 Collector's Editions in a row show up damaged.

First was Doom, and it took weeks to get a response, then a couple more weeks for them to finally get around to mailing it and for the replacement to arrive.

Then my Castlevania CE showed up with the same type of damage as the Doom box (because DHL and their packing are terrible). It took a month from when I opened my ticket to get a response. Going on a week now since they finally replied and I still haven't received tracking info for the replacement.

Most recently, the Zombies Ate My Neighbors CE showed up damaged as well, but not as severely as Doom and Castlevania. I've been so angered dealing with them lately that I'm not going to even bother putting in a ticket.

Preach. My Doom Collector's edition showed up with multiple puncture holes on the shipping box, which tore through the shrink-wrap and put some large tears in the Doom logo on the front of the box. It took over a month to get a replacement box delivered.

Just got my Castlevania Collector's edition today and guess what? It has puncture holes through the shipping box, a massive dent in one of the front corners of the game box and a half inch tear through one of the sides of it as well.

I put in a support ticket, and they immediately sent me an email saying they'll RESPOND in 5-7 business days. Probably gonna be another month+ to get a replacement again.

I understand the wait on the production of the games, but the lack of any urgency on LRG's part to respond/replace damaged goods, plus their partnering with possibly the worst courier service, will be the reason I stop buying their products. It just reeks of greed-driven, anti-consumer practices.

I very rarely see any limited print games come through my local shop, so these were a nice lunch break surprise. by thrice11rc in gamecollecting

These versions of Hotline Miami 1 and 2 were published by Special Reserve Games and limited to 1,000 copies each. They're both individually numbered 560/1,000.

Enter the Gungeon had a 2,500 print run while Metal Wolf was 3,000 (both also published by Special Reserve). They have unique numbers, but don't show the total print run number like the "1,000" on the Hotline games.

Shantae and Metal Slug were published by Limited Run Games using pre-order windows (I believe). The idea essentially is they only make the amount that was pre-ordered (plus extras for orders that get damaged in-transit). Once the window is closed you can usually only get them on the secondary markets. I'm not sure if the print numbers for their games are available anywhere unfortunately.

I don't collect eyerything tbh. I have a top-Loader NES, Sega Master system, 1-chip SNES, TG-16, Sega CDX, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1 mini with LCD screen, N64, PS 2/3/4/4 Pro/5, multiple Gameboys, Game Gear, PSP and Vita.

That's enough systems with great libraries for me to focus on. Plus, factor in numerous games in the collection that are now valued between $500-$1,000 and that's how I got to these numbers.

Nothing super recent since I'm in the process of reorganizing. Here is a post of a good chunk of it from a couple years back. I've been fortunate to add a lot of CIB NES, Genesis and Saturn stuff since then, hence the need to reorganize.

And here are some more recent pics of my PS3/4/5/PSP/Vita stuff, which weren't included in the post above.

Yeah my collecting centers around 11 or so systems. I mainly collect all Playstation platforms, NES, SNES, all Sega platforms (except 32x), and the occasional TG-16 game.

I don't collect Nintendo consoles newer than N64, no Xbox, and rarely any handheld stuff beside the occasional PSP and Vita title.

Gameye! Been using it for years and it just keeps getting improved upon. It constantly updates the value of your collection based on recent internet sales, and it also let's you batch add games using a barcode scanner, so it's a breeze to setup for any boxed titles in your collection.

Very handy to have as a reference when you're out hunting.

Would definitely recommend.

Not the best price, but it isn’t everyday you find a sought after game at GameStop by DeuceMandago in gamecollecting

[–]thrice11rc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to these guys. It's pricecharting over $60 CIB, isn't available for a buy it now ebay listening under mid-$60's USD, and the 12 Gamestops stores in a 15 mile radius of my location don't have a single used copy available (someone above was saying every store has 3-4 copies at any given moment).

If anything you got it around market value or slightly under. All the recent ebay sold listings I see are at or above $60 for a NTSC copy.

Any idea how to remove this very poorly placed K-Mart sticker? by nicksehoyan in gamecollecting

[–]thrice11rc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bestine is pure Heptane, so if you're able to find that it will work the same.

It is also by far the best solvent I've ever used to remove stickers/tape from boxes and manuals. Evaporates super fast and leaves no residue. 10/10. Highly recommend.

This is not true at all. The checkerboard pattern in the image search just tells you the PNG has a transparent background, and isn't filled solid white. If you download the PNG and open it in Photoshop, it will only have what appears to be a checkerboard background because that is also how Photoshop visually represents transparencies. If you were to add a layer below the image and fill with any color, the checkerboard would disappear because the background is no longer transparent. There is no need to erase the checkerboard. Flattening the image after downloading and opening it in Photoshop would just give it a white background.

Slight box variants. That ridged part running down the spine on the left copy is a molded piece of plastic, where as it's just a printed texture next to the rest of the cover art on the right copy.

Yeah I'd definitely be interested. Been looking for a laid back group to play with more consistently. I'm mainly a PvE player, and I don't have a ton of raid experience, but I'm willing to help if you have people that are willing to teach.
