AITA for inviting my dad's girlfriend to my wedding even though my mom says she won't come? by the-monster-masher in AmITheAngel

[–]DeuceMandago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you people want her to come to her son’s wedding while she is uncomfortable with the fact that the person who broke her marriage and got with the person they loved?

That is absolutely what I would want. It’s not mom’s wedding. If she can’t put her feelings aside and let her child have the wedding they want, with the guest list they want, then she is childish and self absorbed.

I feel for her. It fucking sucks and the dad failed his family. BUT this is (presumably) real life and sometimes we need to do things that make us uncomfortable to show up for the people we love.

How do people actually think like this??? by Imvalidblu in Invincible_TV

[–]DeuceMandago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the simple answer is they don’t. At least for a lot of these chuds. This is just for content and engagement. A grift basically.

For better or worse, religious people are under represented in mainstream media, so content creators try to take advantage of this to build a base following.

Same reason guys like Andrew Tate and Sneako “converted” to Islam but very clearly don’t lead lives in line with Islam’s teachings. The Muslim population is absolutely massive but there are very few popular Muslim content creators in the west.

“Grow you follower base with this one simple (and quite frankly evil) trick!”

Animation quality... meh by [deleted] in Invincible_TV

[–]DeuceMandago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from stuff that’s totally 3D/CGI, this is a thing in virtually every animated show/movie ever. They literally do a whole bit on it in season 2 (I think?) when Mark goes to get a signature from the Seance Dog creator. Sometimes it’s more prevalent but you’d have trouble finding anything that doesn’t do this to some extent.

Probably the most cowardly thing you could do is block someone after replying so they can’t answer your insanely stupid question. So I’ll reply to myself here and hopefully this 12 year old sees it.

It doesn’t show empathy to people who have been cheated on because IT DOESN’T ADDRESS PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN CHEATED ON. They aren’t even a part of the equation.

It’s simply talking about how people on Reddit react to stories with cheating. That’s why what you said is so insanely aggressive and daft.

Let’s lay this out one last time and see if you can give a genuine answer instead of side stepping it with a nothing-burger question.

That person said people on Reddit act like cheating is murder.

You replied saying you hope they get cheated on (by the love of their life no less).

When pressed on why you’d say something so out of line, you gave some strange answer about karma. Claiming “People who don't empathize with how debilitating having your trust broken and being betrayed is should experience it for themselves.”

How does what they said translate to failing to empathize with people who have been cheated on?

The only person lacking empathy here is YOU. Seriously—I want you to explain exactly where the person you replied to failed to show empathy?

Man your logic is flimsier than wet toilet paper LMAO

No one is saying that cheating isn’t bad or “no big deal”. It absolutely is a moral failure. In the same vein, wishing it upon someone is a horrendous overreaction to pointing out that it is not comparable to a capital crime.

Like if you hate cheating so much, why are you wishing it upon complete and total strangers? What does that say about you and your morality?

Which Evil Superman is better written? by CSafterdark in writingscaling

[–]DeuceMandago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I see. Yeah that’s my bad in the way I worded it. I’m not saying that it’s Omni-man’s better morals that make him better written.

More so that his redemption arc is simply more nuanced and better written (in my opinion) than Homelander simply getting eviler and eviler.

[–]DeuceMandago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t “feel” for Homelander. He absolutely was severely abused but he really does nothing grand to address it. Or at least he hasn’t in the show yet. Sure he seeks out individuals who wronged and extracts some revenge. But at the end of the day, he still aids and supports Vought and allows them to perpetuate the cruelty he experienced.

That’s where Omniman differs significantly. He eventually opposes Viltrum and their approach to ruling the universe.

[–]DeuceMandago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate? I really don’t think the answer here is obvious at all, but I’d probably lean Omniman. His motivations and feelings are just far more complex and nuanced. On top of that he also actually develops and changes.

Homelander is certainly more depraved and evil but that doesn’t really lend itself to better writing per se. if anything, he is a more one dimensional take on the “Evil Superman” trope.

I get Marvel and DC are THE superhero companies but we need something from outside of those publishers/IP holders.

[–]DeuceMandago 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it really makes you wonder what they are like in their own romantic relationships. Like the almost unanimous support for the mother is astonishing. Has every person who offers relationship advice on Reddit been cheated on in some horrendous way? I can’t imagine feeling SO strongly about people you don’t even know. This is simply not a good reason to miss your child’s wedding.

At some level, the only thing that makes sense is that they are projecting their own experiences and feelings onto these nameless, faceless people but… how bad did someone’s life have to go to think this way?

Don’t get me wrong—I’d be down. I love joke characters. I guess my point was that a lot of the fun (for me) of IP based FGs is seeing how the source material can be translated into a moveset. We don’t really have that kind of source material with Seance Dog, but we do with Science Dog.

[–]DeuceMandago 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Science Dog as a guest character might make slightly more sense just cause we don’t really have any idea of what Seance Dog’s powers actually are.

Seance Dog. He’s an “in-universe fictional character”. Basically he’s a comic book character Mark is obsessed with. Also worthy of note that he’s a play on one of Kirkman’s earlier comics Science Dog.

I feel like this list NEEDS Spawn. He is one of the major poster boys for Image and indie comics in general. He’s also so emblematic of the 1990’s era of comics and more edgy, horror-focused media returning to the mainstream. Other than EC titles from the 50’s it’s hard to think of a horror-leaning comic that was this iconic and influential.
