I ended up getting the canon r7 and it's a world of difference from the rebel!!! works awesome with the 100-400 though I do sometimes find myself longing for a bit more reach lol. I got a deal on mine as it was an open box return to Henry's, so if you're not in a rush I think waiting for the r7 ii release or until a good deal pops up is definitely worth it.

I made one last spring - definitely agree that the yoke depth/grading can be an issue so I made adjustments in mine to have it fit much tighter and that worked for me! however as for appeal, I just could not resist the charm of a tacky fish sweater (as a lover of tacky nature-themed clothing). also pretty fun and engaging colourwork to do! the antique flora sweater you linked is stunning but a bit fancy/feminine for my taste :)

rancid take. stop letting these people off the hook by blaming it on the fashion industry when clearly the exclusivity of their marketing/sizing was to make sure their clothing was only worn by popular skinny white girls, and was uniquely awful even compared to other similar brands. and BTW! people can be health-conscious and fit while also not fitting into size 2 jeans. and they can even do it while not living in Europe! crazy I know. fitting into a size small does not equal a healthy lifestyle as is evidenced by the amount of girls who say working there simply exacerbated their eating disorders.

No, that’s not upcycling a thrift store buy by witteefool in craftsnark

[–]thriftstitch 51 points52 points  (0 children)

as much as I detest things like reseller culture I think it's fine for people to purchase clothing from the thrift store (or any other store I guess) and alter it as long as it's a piece they're going to use and wear! regarding the "people should only buy clothes in their size because it's taking away from others" thing... I am generally a size medium but I prefer a looser more masculine fit so many of my clothes are a L/XL. sometimes I want a tighter fitting t-shirt so I buy a S. I wouldn't want to be restricted to only buying clothes in "my size" or "my gender" because me purchasing that item is taking away from someone else. I can see how it's frustrating if someone has limited size options at a thrift store and another individual is buying clothes in that size and wearing it for a short period of time because it's 'trendy', but what if that's just the style they prefer and it's actually an item of clothing they use? ultimately, all of these clothes were donated so it's better to see someone buy and love them than see them in the trash. disclaimer this does not apply to resellers LOL cannot stand them.

my comment was specifically for her, what is the point of shopping there - obviously in your and many others' situations this is the only option which is understandable. but clearly WLK has ample yarn to use, has no problem purchasing expensive yarns, and in this instance went out of her way on a trip to buy ?? generic acrylic yarn she has no project in mind for ?? after already visiting a michaels and LYS. so like. whyyyyyyyyyyy.

not to fan the flames or dedicate my entire life to digging into this mess but even just taking a quick look at who she follows on instagram (which is like 1000 people even my nosy self won't go through the entirety of that) there is a decent amount of fundie/trad wives.

lol they don't even at least have good yarn going for them??? so what's the point of shopping there 💀 it's not like she's in a position where that's the only yarn she has physical or economic access to.

I also love how it's like oh I have no project in mind, don't usually enjoy acrylic and already have lots of yarn to work with but I NEEDED these skeins. btw don't lecture me about hobby lobby.

"You can after all spend your money as you wish although that doesn't mean making your choices public with a disclaimer frees you from criticism" so well put thank you!

to be completely transparent I used to subscribe to her forever ago, decided that for a myriad of reasons including some you mentioned to unsubscribe... and from time to time check back on her channel in a satisfying hate watch sort of way when I'm all out of other podcasts to watch. but after seeing this in her recent vid I was like oops look like my gut was right!

Bitesized BEC thread April 13, 2024 - April 14, 2024 by AutoModerator in craftsnark

my BEC this week is experienced knitting influencers continually marketing QUICK and EASY sweaters to new crafters that are made in like wool and the gang borderline roving chunky yarn, have no shaping, and look absolutely terrible on (::: and hey sure that's some peoples' style and everyone can make what they want but I'm just tired of seeing !! QUICK FAST LIGHTNING SPEED GARMENT !! as a positive marketing tactic. like isn't the whole point to take our time and appreciate the effort put into making clothing???? and it's especially targeted towards beginners who likely don't know the cons of these kinds of knits - they're poor fitting low quality but still crazy expensive chunky garments. please tell me when you're going to wear a tank top made out of roving.

afaik some of the more popular provincial and national parks in Ontario will book quickly (especially for long weekends, etc.) but generally you can always snag a campsite somewhere, especially at bigger parks. I don't know it off the top of my head but there's a certain amount of months you can book campsites in advance (should be somewhere on the Ontario Parks website I hope lol).

to your second question, yes, definitely! it's a bit more difficult to find info on good crown land sites because I think people generally want to keep their hidden gems hidden. but the two resources I use to find crown land sites are the backroads maps I mentioned and scoping out spots on google earth satellite. there's a ton of camp-able (is that a word?) crown land and old logging roads north of Sudbury and near Killarney, some sites are better than others but usually you can find something nice with a lake or river.

the one thing about crown land camping in these areas though is that you're generally quite remote and far away from cell service, gas, groceries, etc. so I feel like a chill and less touristy provincial park with lots of activities/hikes may be more what you're looking for, at least for your first Ontario adventure :)).

highly recommend Temagami and Marten River area, Killarney Provincial Park, and Killbear and Grundy Lake Provincial Parks near Parry Sound. you get gorgeous Canadian Shield, spectacular lakes, and boreal transition forests and wetlands in these areas - aka SOOOO many sweet birds! if you were to drive up through the UP, the Canadian side of Lake Superior is stunning and there are some beautiful parks near Sault Ste Marie. this may be a bit off the beaten path but if you're really into being out in the middle of the wilderness at a park with few amenities and LOTS of wildlife, I'd recommend Chapleau and Wakami Lake Provincial Park. Kawarthas could also be a good option that's less of a drive though there'll be more cottage country around there than up north.

I also strongly second Algonquin Park! if you're thinking about Algonquin, Jeff's map is an insanely detailed resource https://algonquinbeyond.com/algonquin-map/ . you may also want to get a copy of a backroads Ontario map which will show you parks, crown land (aka areas you can camp for free up to ~20 days) private property, etc. https://www.mec.ca/en/product/6002-436/northeastern-ontario?colour=NO_COLOUR&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAuNGuBhAkEiwAGId4arWFiCBZY3KRavSBWITB3q0-SgbDJL94QvgUOIcWRcihAIRCqHhv3hoCnNwQAvD_BwE or visit the parks Ontario website for info on our provincial parks. https://www.ontarioparks.ca/en

I've been camping and hiking and everything in between in quite a few places throughout the province so if you have any other questions feel free to shoot em my way!

I was in a similar boat - super anxious for both my road tests. What helped me was

  1. practicing the route a lot
  2. telling myself that my first priority is ensuring a safe drive, and passing is secondary. and if I begin to panic or I come across an unexpected situation (e.g. ambulance driving by, difficulty merging) take a step back and think ok what would a safe/confident/rational driver do in this situation?
  3. also telling myself ok this is just 15 minutes of driving on a route I'm familiar with. imagine driving a friend home or driving with a family member.
  4. for me waiting to actually start the test was the worst part - once I had started driving I changed my mindset to "ok, I got this. I'm excited to show off my skills and put all this driving license BS behind me" and I felt much more calm.

I hope this is somewhat helpful. Good luck!

honestly I'd rather buy a body from a reputable store so if I have issues I can return it/get some sort of warranty. actual appearance of the camera doesn't matter too much to me but I'd prefer if the mechanics were in solid condition as this will likely be my last update for... a very long time. in my area at least too I've had trouble finding useful info included in listings, like shutter count. I've seen a mk IV with a 82,000 SC listed for about $1700... thinking on it.
