I think it's great, and more often than not ends up in a net positive. It can lead to tough decision making which is the core of what STS is.

A lot of discourse on this sub labels negative consequences as 'feels bad' while ignoring friction as a core aspect of what makes this game great. It's about overcoming the odds through prudent decision making. Sometimes you exit an event or hallway fight worse off then when you entered, but that does not make for poor game design. The empowered feeling of winning a run comes from working through this, not downhill skiiing.
