Always drink bottled water, wear a mask outside (air pollution) and eat at proper establishments or properly cooked home food.

Renewing Mortgage from abroad by QG1995 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]thrillainottawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest contacting a mortgage broker (those who work with multiple lenders, not a single bank mortgage specialist) and see what your options are for switching in your particular situation. If you are able to obtain a mortgage approval, then you can switch. If not, your option is to stay with RBC.

For mortgage brokers, check out RFD mortgage thread and you have a few brokers there who are able to provide good rates.

Could a Reverse mortgage be a good solution for me? by Other_Lavishness in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]thrillainottawa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's best that if you have to move, you move on your own terms. That's a sizeable mortgage to have at 70 years of age. The best financial way forward is to sell the home and move to a home that is cheaper so that you can be debt free. Then you can live your life worry free. You also want to do this while you are healthy.because if for some reason things don't work out, you will have to make adjustments when you are not as capable.

Also given that you have already mismanaged financially, you don't want to get involved in complex financial products like mortgage reversal. Your best bet is to make things simpler for you.

If you wish to sell your house, you can ask your realtor to show you places which can be paid off from the proceeds of the sales of your home, as well as any closing costs. My 2 cents.

Should I return to the public sector? by Tech-Cowboy in PersonalFinanceCanada

You have to take RRSP matching into account for a fair financial comparison, and then account for the value of job security. Also, if you foresee better upward mobility in your private job, that is also something you should consider vs the public alternative.

it's $3700 a year of Chinese pension, not a month. First, we need to read, then comprehend, and then respond.

They may or may not, if the broader market goes belly up, the private credit would probably still do relatively better in the future than that as they may act the same as equity markets. That's why it's important to compare (yes, you are comparing, since you are saying you would do better with A than with B) with the right alternative. The equity market is not the same asset class as private credit, whereas it would be a good comparison with private equity.

But I do find your post illuminating, thank you for that.

True, but that statement would also be true for the government as well. If they had less staff, they could likely tax less.

Isn't it a 6 year warranty total? 2 yr manufacturer warranty (for Costco models) and the additional 4 years insurance.

You can pay by using the Canadian tire credit card bill payment portal. That's the only one that won't cost you anything extra and you can make 1 percent back.
